Learned Skills:
Level Skill Type
----- Tackle Normal
----- String Shot Bug
TMs: N/A
HMs: N/A
Advice: These are pretty much pushovers if you have any bird or fire Pokemon. If you're seeking to capture, use equally low level Pokemon.

Metapod

Type: Bug
Height: 2'4" Weight: 22 lbs.
Appears at: Virdian Forest, Routes 2, 24, 25
Desrciption: This POkemon is vulnerable to attack while its shell is soft, exposing its weak and tender body
Evolves into: Butterfree at Lvl 10
Learned Skills:
Level Skill Type
----- Harden Normal
TMs: N/A
HMs: N/A
Advice: If you catch these at this stage rather than leveling them up to it, you'll get it's infamous Harden technique. This is actually a good defensive measure, but if you level it up from a Caterpie, the Red and Blue versions will allow you to use Tackle and String Shot. For capture, just keep pounding on it until it's hit points are low. Beware, though, because even at low levels, they're really tough to hurt when they crank up their defense.
