=Pokemon: Eevee Strikes Back!= =By A-kun= =Chapter 2: Celadon And Beyond!= Anything between * and * is translated Pokemon speech. Anything between [ and ] is thought. Anything between // and \\ is projected thought. "So, you're my best friend who can somehow talk and I've got amnesia?" the human asked. "Indeed. Think about it for a bit and you'll find that your memories are probably missing or confusing." the Dratini who had posed as Giovanni told him. "....... then what's my name? Where are we? What's your name?" the human asked. The Dratini grinned. The human's memory was so screwed up, thanks to the Psychic Pokemon the Dratini had under it's control, that there was almost no way for him regain his lost memories. "Your name is Benjamin. My name is Geo. We are in a medical lab to help you recover from you terrible injury." the Dratini told him. "Injury?" Benjamin asked. "You plummeted off a cliff, dear friend." Geo told him. Benjamin tried to recall. But as the image of Dratini tried to enter his mind as he recalled falling, a young girl's face appeared in his mind. He didn't remember the girl's name, but she was quite pretty. "Um, what was I doing on top of a cliff?" Benjamin inquired. "We were trying to get down and continue on our journey. Or rather, your journey... to become a Pokemon Master." Geo informed him. The Dratini's story fit with what little he could recall. He was on a trip to become a Pokemon Master and he had fallen off a cliff while trying to get down said cliff. His fall must've messed up his memory. Secure in that realization, he turned to the Dratini. "Um, so where is this place?" Benjmain asked. "This is a hospital near Viridian City." the Dratini explained. Benjamin paled. "NO WAY! I was headin' for Cerulean City!" Benjamin cried, memories of what he was doing on that cliff returning. "I'm afraid so, dear friend. But, on the bright side, you did survive. Besides, you've got the perfect oppurtunity now to face off against the Viridian City Gym Leader." the Dratini told him. He realized that he had passed through the city and hadn't even checked out the gym. "....... I missed it." he muttered. "Yes, but you did beat Brock of the Pewter City Gym. Unfortunately, I was so concerned for your health that I completely forgot your Pokedex and badge... I'm afraid that they probably broke during the fall." Geo declared sheepishly. "It's okay, Geo. The Pewter city Gym's computer will recognize that I won, so they'll just give me another badge once I explain to them what happened. And Professor Oak'll give me another Pokedex." Benjamin replied. Geo mentally grinned. This human was quite gullible. Of course, the fact that this human had been completely derived from a pokemon lead to some very important discoveries. Most importantly, that of the power that the PokeGod controlled. The Masterballs were of no consequence anymore. Ash looked at the ground, lost in thought as he, Misty, Jessie, Pikachu and Gary returned to the hotel where they were going to meet Ben in a day. The human-turned-Eevee had to say goodbye to his wild friends among other things. But, Ash's mind was on the other Ash (who will be referred to as Crash - Author's note). Crash had the same name as Ash. Well, at least phonetically. Ash was pondering about what sort of reputation Crash had built up and how it was going to affect _his_ career as a Pokemon Trainer. "I wonder what Ben's gotta do." Misty stated. "Probably made an agreement to talk with some of them. Something similiar happened to me once." Gary noted. "I hope he doesn't get lost or kidnapped again." Jessie murmurred under her breath. "Oh, come on. How many times do kidnappings really occur?" Gary asked as they entered the hotel that Ash and company were staying in. "More than I'd like to know." Misty told him. ".... geez, that must stink. I guess some people just don't have any sense of dramaticism." Gary declared. "Dramaticism?" Jessie inquired. "Yeah. It's almost law that you can't have more than one dramatic occurance right after another." Gary told her. "This is the real world, Gary. Not some cheap dime-store novel." Jessie told him. Just as they were getting into the elevator to go to the top floor, Gary, recalling something, turned to Ash, "Yo, Ash. Since you haven't got anything else to do, why don't you go see Professor Oak's assistant on the edge of town? Trust me, it'll be time well-spent." "Really?" Ash inquired. "Yeah, he's got an upgrade for your Pokedex that you and just about everyone else REALLY needs." Gary said. "Hmmmm..." Ash began. Ben turned to Tulia, Xander and the Shockeon. The Shockeon, after defeating Crash's pokemon, had admitted her affection for Xander and had pretty much stuck to him like glue since the end of the tournament. Xander was discomforted, to say the least. First of all, he was attracted to Tulia, not the Shockeon. Secondly, he didn't want to admit that he had seen the signs and just plain ignored them. Thirdly and most importantly, he kept getting a sharp jolt every time the Shockeon leaned against him. "*YAAAAAAH!*" Xander yelped. "*Sorry!*" the Shockeon apologized for the eighteenth time in two minutes. "*Do you really have to leave?*" Tulia asked. "*Yeah, 'fraid so. Jessie needs me.*" Ben responded. "*So, why come back to the village with us?*" Xander inquired. "*Rin wanted to talk to me.*" Ben told the flame-controlling Eevee, who was trying to move away from the Shockeon. "*Ah.*" Xander replied, knowing that the Abra was one who did not like to leave his cave just to chat. Thus, it was logical that Ben had to go see Rin. The return to the village was a fast one, as the pokemon wanted to lose anyone who was tailing them in hopes of finding where their village was. It wasn't long before Ben was hurrying down the tunnel to Rin's resting spot. //Ah, thanks for coming by.\\ "No problemo." Ben told the Abra. //And it seems that you've already found out that you can speak human.\\ "*Yeah, it's just hard keeping myself from speaking in both languages in the same conversation.*" Ben responded. //Anyway, you no doubt want to know what I have to tell you, correct?\\ "*Well, yeah. What did you want to talk to me about?*" Ben inquired. //I could not help but sense something when you came to see me earlier. Your memories are scattered, are they not?\\ "*.......*" Ben responded. //They have been tampered with by three very strong psychic Pokemon, each selectively sealing away memories. However, one thing they cannot affect is the unleashing of these memories. In time, you will remember everything. Including the most glaring detail of all.\\ "Most glaring detail?" Ben asked. //Even if I told you, you would not believe it until you remembered it on your own.\\ "*.......*" Ben stated eliquently. //I believe you have a meeting with some friends.\\ His mind in turmoil, Ben began heading back to the main village. [Dear friend, I hope you do not learn too late, that which waits in thy heart.] Rin thought to himself. Rin decided that he should perhaps stop reading depressing poetry from the minds of those manic-depressives who wandered near the village from time to time. "Okay, Geo. Professor Oak is sending me a new and improved Pokedex and my dad's sending some money. Once they arrive, we can leave." Benjamin declared. "If you don't mind, may I stay here? I have grown quite attached to these surroundings." Geo answered. "....... I suppose it's okay, if you really want to." Benjamin responded. "But, I don't want you to just go alone. They have some pokemon they wish to give you for your journey, so you don't get hurt." Geo declared, moving to reveal three pokeballs that were previously hidden by the Dratini's body. Benjamin briefly wondered why he didn't notice them, but decided he had run into too many mysteries. Like why he kept thinking of a red-haired girl. He'd get brief mental flashes of her and a very unfamiliar feeling. Then, an odd question struck him as he picked up the Pokeballs. "Um, hey, where is everyone else, anyway? You keep mentioning other people, but besides you and that enormous Rhydon, I haven't seen hide nor hair of anyone else." Benjamin inquired. "They're all much too busy in the labs. You see, they are researching diseases that afflict Pokemon, and thus must focus heavily on the task at hand." Geo answered. Benjamin frowned a bit, but decided not to think about it anymore. [I guess scientists have more pressing issues than talking to a kid who just suffered physical tramua.] he reflected. "So, I guess I'll just nab some clothes and be off... I suppose." Benjamin responded, wondering why he had an odd tingling sensation at the back of his head. It was as if something were grossly wrong and that he should be seeing something he didn't. He shook his head and instinctively headed off for the nearest changing room, despite the fact that he didn't KNOW where the changing room was. Geo sighed inwardly. Gullible at times, yes, but not entirely stupid. It was a good thing Geo's Alakazams were detouring any thoughts that might have broken any trust Geo had forced into the boy. His thought processes had been severely cut already, but he continued to think at such high speeds. It was, in all likelyhood, a matter of time before Benjamin broke free. The problem was keeping it from interfering with his plan. Losing most of Team Rocket was bad enough, but losing this facility was completely out of the question. "Get him dressed and out of here as soon as possible. Then send Butch, Cassidy and Red after him for Project K." Geo ordered Detox, the strongest of the Alakazams. Detox nodded. All three of the Alakazams bowed before the small Dratini. Squeaking evilly, Geo left for his lab. Ash sighed. His backpack had more pokeballs than food, clothing or even money. While he knew there were a lot of Pokemon, he began wondering if he really needed all of them. Maybe just catch some, raise 'em up and then release 'em back into the wild. But, first, he and Shelly needed to that upgrade for their Pokedexes. After he stood up to go tell Shelly, he paused, recalling something. He turned to Jessie, who was sprawled out on the couch. "Hey, Jessie. You still have Ben's Pokedex, right?" Ash asked. "Yeah, so?" Jessie inquired. "Can I borrow it? Shelly and I are going to meet Professor Oak's aide at the edge of town and he's supposed to have an upgrade for them." Ash asked. "Sure, it's in Ben's bag, top of the mess." Jessie answered. "Thanks." Ash responded. Ash opened Ben's backpack and grabbed the Pokedex, some stones caught his eye. Two, he recognized as Evolution stones, one for fire and one for electricity. The third he didn't recognize at all. "Hey, Jessie, what's that purple stone in Ben's backpack?" Ash inquired. "Huh? Oh, that. It's a Moon Stone, it's for evolving various pokemon." Jessie answered. "Really? Huh. Do you think he'd mind if I looked at it later?" Ash inquired. "Nah, he wouldn't mind. 'Just don't mess with my clothes and remember to put it back', that's what he'd say." Jessie told Ash. "Okay." Ash agreed, before turning to Shelly, who was at the wet bar drinking a 7-Up, before beginning to say, "Hey, Shelly-" Shelly was suddenly right in front of him. "GYAAAH!" Ash yelped, hopping backwards. "What?" Shelly asked. Ash recovered his composure and waited for his heart to stop imitate a drum solo before continuing, "I'm going to meet an aide of Professor Oak's, wanna-" "When do we leave?" Shelly inquired, Pokedex in hand. "....." was all Ash could say. "I'm not entirely deaf, Ash. Besides, Gary already told me." Shelly responded. "Right.... well, let's get going." Ash managed to spit out. Greg snarled, swatting aside another branch, only to have it swing back in his face. "If I ever get a fire Pokemon, I'M GOING TO BURN DOWN EVERY FOREST IN THE WORLD!" Greg yelled, kicking the offending branch. "Fat lot of good that would do, brainiac." came a condescending tone. Greg took a billionth of a second to recognize the voice. "Where the @$#^#$% have _you_ been?" Greg demanded, glaring at the blue haired boy. James glared back. "I've been waiting for you in Saffron City. It shouldn't have taken long to figure out my clue of 'go to Saffron City after we bust out of here'. It was, after all, at the top of the box of items I gave you to bust out with." James shot back. "What good would it have done to go to Saffron City? Besides, I got some Eevees from the dorks I busted out with." Greg responded. "Eevees? Oh, right. That farm. It's almost surprising the way that such a rare creature has come back from the brink of nonexistance." James noted to himself. "And besides, we ain't too good together." Greg answered. "Maybe so, but you've got that 'killer instinct' that I've been looking for in a partner. That hit on those Eevee brothers was a clear sign of that." James responded. "So, you mean you've been condescending to my 'level' up until now? All that 'Team Rocket' rhyme crud?" Greg inquired. "Yes to your first question. I didn't know if you could handle my lifestyle. As for your second question, no, that's just to give the good guys something stylish to see before they die." James responded. "......" was Greg's lengthy response. "In any case, I found us a backer. He'll give us financial aid. Unfortunately, he's a cheapskate, so we'll have to deal with him in a very... sound... manner." James responded. "James, you just became a zillion times cooler." Greg said, giving a toothy smirk. "Happens all the time." James responded, giving his own toothy grin. The duo headed off in the direction James had just come from. Ben had just returned from Rin's tunnel when Xander trotted up to him. "*Hey, mind if I come with you back to town?*" Xander asked. "*Sure. Besides, I doubt I could give accurate directions back to the village.*" Ben responded. Xander paused for a moment. "*Oh yeah, you're gonna send someone back to teach us how to speak human.*" Xander muttered to himself. "*Besides, I've got a question for you.*" Ben said as he and the Flareon exited the village so fast that Ben barely knew they had left until he heard some crickets chirping. [That's creepy.] Ben thought to himself. "*Yeah? What's the question?*" Xander asked. "*When the other Pokemon were bringing that Lightning Stone back to the village, you said it was almost time. You were all planning an attack on the town, weren't you?*" Ben demanded. Xander fell silent for a while, then spoke up as they neared the forest's edge, "*Yes, we were. We still are. Tulia told us all about your discussion and she's now convinced that your appearance is a distinct sign that perhaps we were wrong. We'll try negoiating with the humans, but until Pokemon are considered equals, there will always be factions that will seek the downfall of humanity.*" "*.... Well, once you all can speak like I do, perhaps humans will learn to respect us.*" Ben answered. "*Make no mistake, we're still planning an attack. But this time, our targets will only be those who create Pokeballs.*" Xander responded. "*I didn't think your spite would just vanish and I can understand that. Just try and refrain from actually hurting people, okay? Or I'll kick your butt until you're a Vaporeon.*" Ben shot back. Xander laughed and replied with, "*Yeah, just try." Both of them laughed. "Ben?" Xander and Ben stopped and turned to see Shelly and Ash on their way to see Professor Oak's aide. "Hey. Me and Xander here are just heading to the hotel. Where are you off to?" Ben asked. "Me and Shelly were just off to see Professor Oak's aide. He's got an upgrade for our Pokedexes. See you back at the hotel." Ash replied. "Yeah, sure." Ben responded, staring at Shelly. The humans hurried off as Ben continued to stare after them. "What's up?" Xander asked. "That girl... I could swear I've seen her before, but... something's not right about it. Anyway, let's get going." Ben responded. With that, the two Pokemon headed off to the hotel. Benjamin examined the coat for the fifth time. There was something that was bothering him about it, but he couldn't put his finger on the detail that eluded him. The pokemon he had received from Geo were fairly strong as far as he could tell. Getting other pokemon felt unnatural, but it was all that were available. He kept scratching at the back of his neck, feeling as though someone or something was staring at his head for some reason. And it was strange that a facility would just have some fairly strong pokemon all ready to go. He got a dull headache, shook his head and ignored the idea all together. The headache faded and he scratched the back of his head. Suddenly realizing something, he fell forward, letting his hands hit the ground, before kicking both his feet up. His feet struck something hard, sending it reeling. He spun and unleashed his Wartortle, instructed it to shoot the target, then called out his Charmeleon. The Alakazam, which was quite distracted after being soaked by the Wartortle, was clearly unprepared for the sharp claws of the Charmeleon piercing it's hard armor-like body. The Charmeleon and Alakazam shared a harsh glare, then the Alakazam collapsed, dead. Benjamin glared down at the dead Alakazam, knowing quite well what it was and what it was probably doing. Recalling his two borrowed Pokemon, he turned and continued to the Viridian City Gym. As soon as Benjamin was gone, a Rhydon and another Alakazam exited the bushes nearby. "*The boy is smarter than we thought.*" the Rhydon rumbled. //He is clearly going to be dangerous. The fog around his mind is clearing fast. Soon, not even I will be able to re-ensnare his mind without him being under some very debilitating circumstances.// "*Detox, do you think Geo is going to succeed?*" the Rhydon asked. //Axle, I have no idea. There are too many variables and in my experience, that always leads to failure if you don't get rid of them quickly.// Axle and Detox collected the fallen Alakazam and headed back to their headquarters, leaving Red, Butch and Cassidy to finish Plan K. For now. Ben finished explaining the situation to Fox. "So, will you do it?" Ben asked. "Shurah. No prahblem, MEOWTH!" Fox responded. "Is it just my imagination, or does your accent change from minute to minute?" Ben asked. "Uh, no." Fox lied. "Anyway, I'll miss having you around, but they need you a lot. Especially since they want to attack the city and I'd rather NOT repeat the War of Civilization's Fall." Ben declared. "'War of Civilization's Fall'? What da heck is dat?" Fox inquired. "Look, just do it." Ben growled. Fox nodded, then turned to Jessie, who was still lying on the couch. She was currently reading a magazine article on how it was strange that people could be called Pokemon Breeders, and yet, do nothing involving breeding Pokemon. She realized someone was staring at her, and glanced over to see Fox and Ben looking at her for different reasons. Ben kept edging over to see up her skirt and Fox was trying to be dramatic. The former later received a bonk on the head while the latter received an immediate roll of the eyes. "Well, Jess, it looks like we gotta part ways! I know it'll be tough, but ya haveta be strong! I'll probably nevah see you again!" Fox cried dramatically. "We'll be back here next year, so it's not forever, Fox. Besides, you always said that you wanted to see a Pokemon village and here's your chance. And how hard could it be to teach most of them how to speak? Ben learned in a few days and Scyther learned on his own. If you finish in less than a year, you can probably just catch up with us." Jessie responded. "Ain'tcha gotta heart ta at least worry?" Fox asked. Jessie got up and walked over to the cat-Pokemon. She sat down in front of Fox and looked at him dead in the eyes. "That's what this is about? Fox, I told you, it's not forever. It's just goodbye for now." Jessie responded. Fox sighed, "I guess. It's jus' dat I nevah met any a'da Meowths I grew up wit', you know? I ain't seen them since I was a little Meowth." "They probably found homes or went to another city, Fox. It's common." Jessie responded. "Wit' all da travelin' you, me and James did? I shoulda seen one a'dem sometime." Fox replied, sighing. "Fox, it's going to be fine. Look, Ben's survived worse and he's still kicking. I got blasted by the PokeGod and I'm fine. Stop worrying about what might be and focus on the what is. I'll get my Trainer Badges, become a Pokemon Master and be back in almost no time. Besides, you'll be a hit at the village. Just think of how attractive such an intelligent Meowth would be?" Jessie answered. Most of the speech fell on deaf ears until Jessie mention the words 'attractive', 'intelligent' and 'Meowth'. Fox perked up. "Yeah, maybe dis ain't so bad! Okay, Xandah, let's go!" Fox cried, following the Fire Pokemon. Jessie waited until Fox and Xander had left, then bonked Ben. "Giovanni, Gym Leader, I challenge you to an official match." Those words were ones Giovanni hadn't heard in a while. In a long while. He looked up to see a trainer, a young brown-haired man, standing across the room. One of Giovanni's new junior trainers moved to tell the kid the new rule of the League when Giovanni stood up. "Normally, most trainers test themselves against our junior trainers before they challenge the Gym Leader." Giovanni told the young man. "I don't need any testing." the young man responded. "Really? Well, then..." Giovanni began, turning to his assistants, "Go outside and train. It's better than training in this stuffy Dojo." "Right." the other trainers answered, leaving hurriedly. Giovanni pulled out a Pokeball and released his faithful companion for 10 years, a Nidoqueen he had stumbled on in a clearing. "This Nidoqueen is hands-down the toughest Pokemon I have left. If you can beat her, you've got a Boulder Badge, got it?" Giovanni asked. "Right. Ivysaur, Razor Leaf." the young man said, unleashing a Pokeball. Giovanni said nothing. The Nidoqueen charged the Ivysaur as the small green Pokemon was hurling razor-sharp leaves at the larger and meaner Pokemon. The Nidoqueen jerked slightly at the strike of every leaf, but was mostly unaffected. "Ivysaur, Vine Whip, then Sleep Powder." the young man instructed. The Nidoqueen blocked the Vine Whip and took a blast of Sleep Powder in the face, but was unaffected. The Ivysaur then received a Double-Kick, sending it rocketing backwards towards the young man, who retrieved the Pokemon before it could hit him. The young man unleashed a Charmeleon. The Nidoqueen backed away hurriedly. Giovanni watched it carefully, then sighed. "Okay, kid, you get the badge." Giovanni responded. The young man blinked, then recalled his Charmeleon. Giovanni walked up to the Nidoqueen and gave it a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. She sighed in utter relief as Giovanni recalled her. "Why did you give up?" the young man asked. "Because this Nidoqueen had a harsh experience with Charmeleons. Trying to force it to face it's fear in a fight is only going to ruin my friendship with it and asking you to change Pokemon for our convenience isn't how these things work." Giovanni answered. The young man frowned at winning by default, but nodded in understanding. Giovanni handed him a Boulder Badge. "Now, for the records, what's your name?" Giovanni asked. "Benjamin." the young man replied. "Well, Ben, you're the first to beat me in over twenty years." Giovanni answered. Something nagged at Benjamin's mind, but he ignored it. "Thank you for fighting me. I realize that my challenge came out of the blue..." Benjamin began. "That was nothing. It's just that the new rule is that you've got to beat at least one Junior Trainer first, okay? Don't think that you can just challenge the Gym Leader EVERYWHERE you go, okay?" Giovanni asked. Benjamin nodded, waited for Giovanni to leave the room to create an official plaque, then rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. [I can't believe Geo didn't tell me about that. I mean, I'm usually caught up on that sort of thing.] Benjamin responded. As the sound of a laser charging up began filling the room, Benjamin decided on his next course of action. [Hmmm, I shouldn't bother heading to Pewter, so Celadon should be my next stop.] Benjamin thought. Ash and Shelly looked around the area for a while before noticing a young woman snoring on a bench. Walking over hesistantly, Ash nudged her awake. "Nuh-what?" she asked, waking up from her nap. "Are you Professor Oak's aide?" Ash inquired. "Oh, yeah. You two are some of his helper, eh? Right, let's see those Pokedexes." she said, scratching her head. Shelly and Ash reluctantly handed over the trio of Pokedexes. With an amazing speed, seeing as she looked like she was going to fall asleep in a few seconds, the aide inserted one chip into each of Pokedexes, then closed them and handed them back. "There. You can now send any of your Pokemon back to Professor Oak's. Make sure to send a few back every so often. He's trying to study their physiology to get an even better understanding of them." the aide told them. She handed both of them a pamplet on how to work the new system, yawned and fell asleep again. Shrugging, both of them headed back to the hotel. After a mostly quiet trip back, they entered the lobby, where an idea finally struck Shelly. "Say, Ash, I've been meaning to ask... you saw that tournament thingy, right?" Shelly inquired. "Yeah, so?" Ash asked. "What did you think of that loser, Ketchum?" Shelly inquired. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH-PUUUUUUUU!!!" came the sneeze from on Crash Ketchum. Crash sniffled and wondered if he was coming down with a cold. "Uh, I don't think I should say anything." Ash responded as the elevator reached the top floor. "Took you long enough to say that." Shelly informed him. "So, where should we all go next?" Ash asked, ignoring Shelly's statement. "How about Celadon? I heard they might close the Gym for renovations in a month, so it's probably best if we get there soon." Misty declared. "But, don't we have to go to Saffron to get to Celadon?" Ash inquired. "Well, we can always take that route through the forest. It's away from most traffic, so we should make good time if went that way." Misty responded. "I'm all for it." Jessie said, returning to her magazine. "If we can make good time, then I guess it's okay." Ash agreed. With that, the group went to bed to get an early start. =============================================================================================== In the next Eevee Strikes Back!: Celadon City! More New Pokemon! Madness Claims A Hapless Victim! Mass Destruction! A New Transformation! Evolution And Death! Okay, this one felt weird while I was writing it. The series is going to grow a definitely violent angle, if you couldn't tell. I'll try and keep it light, but things are gearing up. Don't worry, though, the final book is still going to be the end of the series. I'm not about to end this story early, even if I do take a long time finishing it. The problem is mostly getting back into the swing of things. I've been reading the Pokemon comics too, to get some sort of inspiration on fights and such. This one didn't include a new Pokemon, but there's going to be one next time.
