=Pokemon: Eevee Strikes Back!= =By A-kun= =Chapter 3: Death Becomes Celadon= Anything between * and * is translated Pokemon speech. Anything between [ and ] is thought. Anything between // and \\ is projected thought. In a quiet forest, (whoa, deja vu) a massive tree stood proud. It had been that way for a long time. In fact, this particular tree had stood proudly for well-over eight thousand years, as had many of it's nearby brethren. This tree was proud nonetheless. The tree had recently gained a powerful admirer. //Such a fine tree. I shall grant it the fruit of a higher life to allow those less fortunate.// The admirer strode forth and considered something for a moment. //I am uncertain if this one will truly benefit all who partake of it. But it is necessary if Pokemon are to remain strong. We must continually grow and change, for the better or worse.// With that, it touched the bark of the proud tree. A few of the roots suddenly turned to stone. The figure flinched as the tree's pride was removed momentarily by pain. In order to counterbalance the pain it had caused, the figure increased the nutrients in the soil so that the tree would recover easily. With that, the figure left. "Viiiilepluuuuume! Where are you, you silly little Pokemon?" a young girl called. The flower-headed Pokemon tottered forward as quickly as it could, enjoying it's game immensely. "Plume!" the Vileplume responded. The girl heard the noise, but the forest masked it's location. "Vileplume, where are you?!" the girl growled, losing patience for the tricky little creature. Perhaps evolving her Gloom into a Vileplume wasn't the best idea. As an Oddish, it was a bashful little creature. As a Gloom, it was apathetic and lazy. And now as a Vileplume, it was too active and tricky. The Vileplume noticed the proud tree and headed for it, hiding beneath a large root. Just as it felt it was adequately hidden, it sensed a strange new aura behind it. The Vileplume turned and felt the rock-like root. It flared with energy as one of the Vileplume's petals touched it and the Vileplume began to change. Hearing a Pokemon scream is not a pleasant experience. The girl hurried to where she had heard the scream and found her Vileplume climbing out from underneath the proud tree. Only, it didn't look right. The color of the Vileplume's body was now green and it's petals were violet. A far cry from it's former colors. Plus, it looked taller. "Vileplume?" the girl asked. "Darksprout dark." the changed Vileplume answered. Without warning, it began spinning in place, a strange purple cloud spraying into the air. The girl managed to cover her mouth in time, but the new Pokemon lunged at her with startling speed, knocking her over long enough for her to breath in the cloud. Coughing violently, the girl felt ill. As her body fell limp, the former-Vileplume smiled dazedly, and began wandering away. Red mopped. He mopped because all he could do was mop. Ever since that humiliating defeat at Saffron City, the police had decided to make him do community service. How was he ever supposed to defeat his life-long rival if he was mopping a floor? Fuming angrily, he looked outside the 'Poke-School' as some idiot had 'cutely' dubbed the center. A young boy and his Vulpix were playing without a care in the world. Red felt ill watching the scene. Sure, unlike some of the other members of Team Rocket, he treated his pokemon well. But all of them had a warrior's fire in their hearts. They wanted to fight opponents of equal or greater strength, not lolly-gag like that stupid boy and his vulpix were. The fight. That was the whole reason Red had joined Team Rocket. To take on unreasonable odds to increase the strength of himself and his Pokemon. At the time he joined, Team Rocket seemed to be the strongest group around. The fight at Saffron City had proven to Red that his comrades weren't even well-trained, let alone very strong. "Red? Finish up. Today's the day." the guard informed him. Red nodded. It was a good thing that good behaviour still counted toward something these days. That and the fact that he hadn't actually had the chance to join the attack on Saffron City. By the time he set his feet down on the ground, the city had pretty much given up. In any case, he was lucky he didn't have his Pokemon handed away for rehabilitation. Since they were as well-behaved as he was, the police decided he was a young member and thus hadn't had the chance to do bad. Red's opinion of the police went down a bit, but then again, a lot of police officers would rather let someone go than lock them up. "We're off to Celadon City, the wonderful city of Celadon!" Ben sang to the tune of "The Wizard of Oz". "That doesn't even rhyme." Jessie pointed out. "Feh. Who needs to rhyme? Let's just get going." Ben answered. "By the way, that reminds me, how did you know Ben and I were on the way to the Rock Tunnel a while back?" Jessie asked. "We didn't. We found out that she was getting on a bus that was chartered to head to Lavender City and figured one of the fastest ways to get there was the Rock Tunnel." Misty responded. As the group neared the city of Celadon, Misty blinked. "Hey, what's that weird yellow-" Misty began, pointing at a beam of light that sprang from the distant ground and touched a building. The resulting explosion shook the entire group from their feet. "What was that?!" Shelly inquired. "That attack was none other than a Solar Beam! Plant Pokemon can use it!" Ben answered quickly. "Do you think it's attack by Team Rocket?" Ash asked. "Probably not, Celadon is where their headquarters are." Jessie responded. The group returned to their feet and stretched briefly, preparing to run to the city. "You know, I'm getting mighty sick of having to run to and from cities." Ash noted. "Be grateful it's not while being chased by an angry mob." Jessie informed him. "Well, okay, yeah..." Ash responded, rolling his eyes. "Okay, ready?" Ash inquired. A combined nod later and the group sighed in depression before racing off towards the city. Jonathan grumbled. Most people would be surprised that he was still relatively sane. Especially after that whole mess in Lavender Town. Of course, no one had very much pity for him, since he was making a _cheap_ theme park on a cemetery. Of course, how it got through the city council was still a mystery, even to the council members themselves. Of course, some contact mind-control poisons solved that easily. Even the Author would say that Jonathan had no right to grumble after that little stunt. And the fact that the park was so cheaply built added to the general disapproval of him. And toss in the fact that he actually had more than enough money to have made a decent theme park and it just made you shake your head and wish you could spit on him. Even Ebeneazer Scrooge could be more compassionate. Of course, Ebeneazer had the help of the three ghosts of Christmas. Then, he had found James. The boy was a former member of Team Rocket, but that wasn't important. What WAS important was that he and James were now going to be running a Pokemon Zoo in Fuschia City. Or rather, paying other people to run a Pokemon Zoo in Fuschia City. A poorly funded zoo at that. Maximize profits, minimize costs, a regular scrooge. Of course, James was a spendthrift with 'their' money. As the official hunter for the Zoo, it was allowable... to a point. At first, he had set James' salary at three whole dollars less than minimum wage. A few punches to the stomach later, and he had James' salary at twenty dollars an hour. And now, James had a partner. Another punch in the stomach had Greg's salary just as high as James' salary. They were pulling in decent profits, so it was allowable. But if they asked for more, Jonathan was going to be sure to hire a bodyguard before discussing their contracts. But first, they had a commercial to produce and air. "Hey, boss, we want our salary raised to thirty dollars an hour." Greg said. Jonathan began to say "No", but Greg's fist cut him off. "Okay..." Jonathan wheezed. Flames rushed towards the evolved-Vileplume, but it somehow leapt out over the rush of fire and released a toxic cloud, causing nearby police officers and most of the various fire pokemon to collapse. In a burst of rage, it slugged three police Magnetons over the horizon. A Paras scurried forward only to be blasted away as the evolved Vileplume unleashed another Solarbeam, cutting into building and causing minor earthquakes in the process. Flower petals streamed around the abnormal pokemon as it stumbled forward. A cap-wearing observer noticed that it looked almost punch-drunk as it tripped and unleashed another Solarbeam, which lanced a perfectly straight line through the city and exploded in the distance. Something nudged his hand. He glanced down at the nudging creature. "Can't attack yet. It's still on a rampage. Let's let it tire itself out a bit first." the observer responded. Ash couldn't believe the scene as he raced around the final corner. A fallen Vileplume that didn't look right, some passed out police officers and fire pokemon, but no sign of a perpetrator. "Misty, Jessie, you two check the police, I'll check their Pokemon. Shelly, you examine that Vileplume." Ash ordered. With Ben trailing behind him, Ash quickly reached the fire pokemon. Ash quickly noticed the signs of a Toxic attack. After all, it was a favorite in the Pokemon League. "They've been poisoned." Ash announced, pulling an antidote. "Do we have enough antidotes for all of them?" Ben asked. "I might, but see if Shelly has any to spare." Ash told him. Ben hurried over to the girl, who was staring down at the Vileplume. "Shelly, do you... why aren't you helping it?" Ben asked. "GET BA-" Shelly began. Minus even a twitch to show that it was going to move, the Vileplume returned to it's feet and began to power up a Solarbeam. Ben tackled Shelly out of the way just as Zappy leapt forward to attack. Zappy met the Solarbeam head on and went flying backwards, smashing through the display window of a clothing store. The clothing store exploded shortly afterwards, sending the battered Pikachu flying back out. "A Solarbeam can't do that!" Ben yelped. "Not normally, but our 'friend' isn't a normal Vileplume." Shelly warned. "How do you-" Ben began before noticing the Vileplume storing an excess of energy for another Solarbeam. A beam of light sprang from the Vileplume, cutting deep into the road. The beam slowly began moving down the middle of the street towards Ash, Jessie, Misty and the fallen police and pokemon. Summoning as many pokemon as they could, they pulled the victims out of the path of the overly powerful beam of energy. Ben glanced down at the hole and instinctively began backing away quickly. Sewer water exploded up out of the hole. The tidal wave of sewage splashed on the street. "DARK SPROUT!" the evolved pokemon cried, leaping into the sewer while charged for one more Solarbeam. "RUN! HE'S NEAR A GAS MA-!" came the abrupt cry from Ash just as the street and a good section of the city exploded. Sir Stings-A-Lot found himself out of his Pokeball. Which was quite surprising since Shelly was unconscious nearby. He found his pokeball behind him utterly ruined. It was of no matter, he would just wait for Shelly to recover and get another pokeball. Some of the other Pokemon didn't like them, but Sir Stings-A-Lot found them quite comfortable. He landed and walked over to Shelly, who didn't seem to be seriously hurt and waited. His multi-socketed eyes allowed him to scan the landscape while he waited. They seemed to be on a flower-covered hill in the middle of nowhere. He didn't see any signs of the other humans Shelly was usually with. Concerned, he flew up a bit, keeping Shelly in his sight as he scanned the area for anyone or anything else. He finally found a fellow Bug Pokemon, but a nasty brand than Sir Stings-A-Lot was used to. It was the Scyther that had joined the party back when they had that enormous battle. If Sir Stings-A-Lot could have frowned, he would have. The Scyther was not only rude, but it had shown hostility towards Shelly. Had she allowed Sir Stings-A-Lot, he would've give the arrogant Scyther what for. He flew down to the Scyther, still keeping Shelly in his line of vision and slowly dragged him up the hill. The Scyther was a great deal heavier than Sir Stings-A-Lot had anticipated. After a good ten minutes, Sir Stings-A-Lot finally stopped hauling the Scyther and took a rest. "Are you quite done yet?" The Scyther asked, standing up. "*HZZZM, you are awake. HZZZM, I had expected you to remain HZZZM asleep a while longer. HZZZM*" Sir Stings-A-Lot responded. "I'm more ressssilient than I look. Besssidesss, I wasss looking for sssomething to eat. I'm ssstarving and that girl looksss good." The Scyther declared, moving towards Shelly. Sir Stings-A-Lot hurried between the two. "*HZZZZM, take off. You will not touch her so long as I am here. HZZZM*" Sir Stings-A-Lot stated firmly. "Out of my way, bee-boy, or faccce my wrath." The Scyther growled, raising his scythe-like claws in a threatening manner. Instead of replying, Sir Stings-A-Lot lunged forward. The Scyther felt the large stinger pierce his left shoulder, paralyzing it and poisoning him as he hacked off the Beedrill's left arm. Both of them backed away, but neither were ready to quit. The Beedrill was tougher than the Scyther had expected, but the Scyther was more dangerous. Sir Stings-A-Lot encased himself in a yellowish energy before leaping forward and thrusting his remaining fore-stinger at the Scyther, who back away as the numerous attacks were too fast for him to effectively block. However, a slashing blow to the Beedrill's open left side drove it backwards. Which was less fortunate for the Scyther than he had anticipated. The pain from the numerous stings caused him to stumble as the numerous puncture wounds in his chest and legs began to bleed. Collapsing to one knee, he felt the agony of the Beedrill's poison running through his vein. Blinded by rage and pain, he leapt forward, intent on kill Sir Stings-A-Lot, only to feel a stinger drive through his back and stomach, pinning him to the ground. Tugging, Sir Stings-A-Lot removed the shell around his stinger. The stinger was no longer as larger, but the husk was enough to make sure the Scyther wouldn't be a problem anymore. Staggering from his own injuries, Sir Stings-A-Lot laid down next to Shelly and decided to rest for a bit. Misty felt something damp lay on her forehead. Fearing a bug, she tried to open her eyes and sit up at the same time. Her body announced, "Who? Me? Like heck, lady." and she laid her head back down. The damp cloth that had been on her forehead fell off the bed. "Oh, you're awake now." came a female voice. Opening her eyes again, Misty was greeted by the sight of a dark-haired girl wearing a faded red kimono. "Erica? That you?" Misty asked. "Yes, I found you in my garden earlier. You and your friends crashed through a window and landed in my flowers. Luckily, all of you are all right." Erica answered. "Where are they?" Misty demanded, not seeing anyone in her field of vision. "They are being treated in another room. Your Pokemon are currently in a wading pool that was loaned to me." Erica responded. "A wading pool?" Misty inquired. "The explosion damaged your Pokeballs, leaving your Pokemon free to roam." Erica told her. Misty laid her head back. Ever since she met Ash and Shelly, nothing but trouble seemed to follow them. Then again, Team Rocket also seemed to follow them. "Rest for now. Humans don't recover as quick as Pokemon do. In fact, I'm amazed you are even alive, judging from the size of the explosion that sent you here." Erica stated, hitting play on a stereo containing a "Learn How to Do Your Taxes" tape before leaving hastily. In half a minute, Misty was asleep. "*It was not to be like this.*" "*Few things are ever like they are supposed to. We would not exist.*" "*Mewtwo, tell me. Is my quest just madness?*" "*No. You are right to think that we are running out of options. We need to expand our potential, as do the humans, but we must make the humans see the need first. Most see us as friends, but not as equals. And we still must root out the evil ones.*" "*I could do it easily.*" "*You could kill them, yes, but you must let us mortals handle this. If gods do all our work for us, then we would have no need of existing.*" "*Wise words, my friend. I shall continue my quest. Thank you for listening.*" "*Besides, the Dark Sprout has it's own uses. Good can not exist with the presence of Evil. And it will keep us reminded that not all evolutions are good ones.*" "Ash? Yo, Ash, wake up." came the nagging and familiar voice of Ben. Ash opened his eyes to see a young man staring down at him. The face of the young man was one he hadn't seen in a while. "Ben?" Ash inquired. "Yeah?" Ben answered. "Yeah?" Ben responded. Ash stared at Ben the human, then at Ben the Eevee. The two Bens glared harshly at each other. "Wha-bu-uh?" Ash demanded. "........" the two Bens responded. The young man read at the poster, "Help Wanted: Fuschia City Zoo" "Sounds safe enough." Joyrock muttered to himself. "Safer than working for Team Rocket, anyway." Red agreed. "Definitely." Joyrock agreed. The duo sighed and continued towards Fuschia. =============================================================================================== Two Bens in one place? If Ash, Ben and Benjamin are elsewhere, then who's with Misty? What happened to the mysterious Dark Sprout? Where are Shelly's other Pokemon? And what other mysteries will pop up? For possible answers to these questions, read the next chapter of Pokemon: Eevee Strikes Back!, coming sometime in the future. Author's note: I know, it's getting darker and more violent. I can't help it. You can only do so many fights between Pokemon before someone gets hurt and badly. I'm not sure if anyone will die, but I'm leaning in that direction. ====== OMAKE! - more silly and weird this time! ======
