STOCK AITKEN WATERMAN PRODUCTION SPECIAL ADDITION!
HIT GENERATION FRANCE EDITION W/ 20 TRACKS.
This is the latest S/A/W compilation that been released! Thanx to Thierry Willems for the free sample copy directly from France!
As stated, if you haven't got many S/A/W tracks, then this is the best CD compilation which you can get! And if you noticed, the France edition has 2 more extra tracks than the Singapore edition. Nevertheless, I think if you want to own this compilation, get the France edition of course! The extra 2 tracks are rare S/A/W tracks especially in Singapore. Just a little info that one of it is the cover version of Kylie's "Never Too Late" in FRENCH! Check it out below at the listening booth. Same goes to the other extra track.
The rest of the 18 tracks are as great as well. But I think you should know that if there is any S/A/W related stuffs, Kylie, Jason, Rick Astley and Bananarama are the most regular ones that are always there and no escape from it! Know what I meant? Anyway, they are featured in this compilation again.
There are a few remixed versions featured in this compilation too. And as mentioned before, I think Dead Or Alive's is the best.
By the way, I am pretty surprised that this CLASSIC track "Ferry 'Cross The Mersey" is featured in it too. Great selection I must say! And there are some other tracks which are rather rare as they came from it's already deleted CD album. For instance, "Blame It On The Boogie", "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You", "The Harder I Try", etc. I never heard the air-play of these tracks until this compilation is released.
Also it's great that they didn't forget about World Aparts and it's great to see "Santa Maria" in it too! In case you haven't know and just for your information, "Santa Maria" is taken from the 90's and a Stock (-Aitken) Waterman production. Now you can judge the difference! (By the way, Samantha Fox has also done a version on that. And I will try to feature it too over S/A/W house section in the near future.)
Nevertheless, the track-listing from this compilation is definitely NOT the only best hits from S/A/W! They are so many other great S/A/W tracks that are not featured in it. For instance and especially "This Time I Know It's For Real", "I Just Don't Have The Heart", "Toy Boy", "Cross My Broken Heart", "Right Back Where We Started From", "He Ain't No Competition", "Respectable", "Say I'm Your No.1" and so many more. Also, I just don't understand why they rather pick double-shot by Rick Astley, Kylie and Jason? And why they have to choose those very common songs by these regular artistes? I rather see "I'll Still Be Loving You" (Kylie), "R.S.V.P." (Jason), "Love, Truth & Honestly" (Bananarama) ... or other great and not so common tracks from them if they really need to feature these artistes or groups in it.
But overall, this compilation is still very recommended! And it's great that people is still keeping *Euro-stuff* S/A/W alive! Wouldn't it be great to see The Best Of Dieter Bohlen or even The Best Of Axel Breitung CD compilations released in the near future too!?! Keep our fingers crossed!
THE END.
Rating ****1/2
P.S. If you really enjoy and looking for the like of S/A/W music, do check out Michael Fortunati! His music is quite similar to S/A/W production especially on the song "Give Me Up" which has some portions that really sound like Bananarama "I Heard A Rumour". Check it out.)
