Neon Genesis Evangelion..... what more can I say? It is the BEST anime I have ever seen! (so far). The storyline is good, characters complicated, and what's more it is everything BUT "and they live happily ever after". I'm sure all the ppl who have seen this will agree with me. The comic is not that bad as well, but not as detailed as the anime, though I seem to understand the plot better.
For those who haven't even HEARD of this..... welll... you SHOULD'VE if you like anime...... NEwayz, the story is set in 2015 after half the human population died due to a large meteor (or so they say). These gigantic monsters called Angels started to attack this city called Tokyo-3, where a secret organisation called NERV is based. 3 children are selected to pilot these biological weapons called EVA to fight against these... things..(the EVAs are robots, one of them is shown in the pic along with the three main pilots - Rei Ayanami, Shinji Ikari, and Sohryu Asuka Langley). The real kewl thing about this is that the story doesn't really revolve around the pilots fighting the Angels (like SailorMoon), but around the pilots and other things.
For example, Shinji (the guy) is the son of the head of NERV Gendou Ikari. Now, Gendou left Shinji to go work at NERV and they haven't seen or heard from each other in over 3 years. Suddenly, Shinji gets a letter from Gendou to meet him in Tokyo-3, which he knows that it's not like "dad" 'cause he hasn't written a letter to him over the years. But he goes NEwayz and the moment he arrives, an Angel attacks. Gendou sents somebody to bring Shinji back to NERV and then tell him that he is to pilot EVA against the "monster" . Now, in "normal" anime the character will go "Kewl! I'll do it!" but Shinji's reaction was "What? You called me here just to pilot that? I don't know how! Why me? I'll get killed and you don't even care!" and Gendou's response was "If you don't pilot it then I don't want to see you ever again. Get out of here you coward!" Some fatherly affection yeah?
Ever since, Shinji hates EVA but pilots it NEwayz 'cause he feels that that's the only thing he's capable of.
