Chapter 2: Corruption
Justin Chronos, fifth high wizard of the magic fortressAzme, gazed forlornly out the window of his study at the slightly shimmeringbarrier around his domain.
"Any change, sir??"
He pressed his head against the glass, whilst his whiteclad companion fretted behind his desk. "Jessamyn...What did you expectwhen you first became caught up in this mess??"
"Danger, sir."
"And were you scared??"
The brown haired woman shook her head and clasped herhands over ivory skirts. "No. Excited surely, but never scared."
"What about later??"
"When I saw that light, I was frightened. When Ryufell, I screamed..." She paused and shuffled her feet. "WhenI ressurected Kahna, I thought I was about to die from terror."
"Why??"
She focused amber eyes on his back. "Why do you ask??"
"Because I've never been afraid."
The priestess was silent. "Never??"
Justin shook his head sadly, turning in the light so onlypart of his face was sillouette. "All my experiences have broughtanger, longing..." He sighed. "When...Sa--" He choked, turningback to the window. "When I killed Zelan, it was my duty. I was beyondthe point of caring about my wellbeing."
"What about now??"
His eyes were back on her again. "Pardon?"
She walked up beside him and looked out the window. "Whateverwas on Isle Du Kaosu has escaped. And Azme is its target."
He chuckled. "To the point...You're like Xen."
She blinked. "You mean the High Mother Xenmara??"
His expression softened. "My little sister."
Jessamyn trained her attention back out the window. "Maybiesomeday you'll tell me all about it."

Krall winced as his mistress threw another part of theroom decor against the wall. Na'ora was fuming, and in retrospect, thenobility of Moranne was cowering in fear.
"YOU CAN'T ACTIVATE THE PORTAL!??"
The humans winced and backed themselves further towardsthe walls, away from the ranting, disfigured demoness.
"....The portal can only be activated by a mage orpriest of the Ciian Sect, and all the mages are -IN- Azme, Mistress."Krall murmered, looking anywhere but at the person he was speaking to.
Na'ora growled and flopped arrogantly into the imperialthrone, fingering the half bandaged wreckage of what was once the rightside of her face. "Bloody Mages, Bloody Priests, Bloody AZME, BLOODYWIZARD, BLOODY CHAOS, BLOODY DRAGONS!!!" Herfist connected with the arm of the gilded chair, demolishing it completely.
"The dragon is dead, Mistress!!" Krall pipedup timidly.
She snarled, baring fangs. "IDIOT!! You can't killdragons that easily!! And CHAOS is most CERTAINLY NOT DEAD!!" Shehissed and grabbed at the scabbing skin on her right side. "I canstill feel that bastard!!"
Krall blinked. "He's close??"
"YES HE'S CLOSE!!!" She wailed, leaping up andthrowing the entire throne against the far wall in one motion. Humans trembled.
"Chaos magic can open gates."
Red eyes blinked. "What??"
The humanoid demonling figeted. "Chaos magic canopen gates!!"
"How do you know this??" She hissed.
Krall laughed weakly. "Well, Zelan opened the Menzaugate to storm Azme all those years---"
"Yess..."
Krall blinked. "Mistress??"
Fear rose in the yellow eyed demon's throat as Na'orabegan to laugh. It began as a cold chuckle, but soon progressed to a fullfledged cackle. "YES!!! KRALL!!!"
"aaanoo??"
She whirled on him, a wicked grin spread across her damagedface. "All we need is the magic...Raw, uncontrolled magic...Just throwthe Devil at the gate and see what happens....NO!!!" Ideas began toplay across her features. "That dragon's lover...."
"The Raw Wielder??"
"YES!!" She cackled again. "Get them BOTH!!!We channel Chaos' energy through the girl....and..."
"A weapon." Krall mumbled. "...And youcould use it over and over..."
"UNTIL THEY DIED!!!" Na'ora screamed, dancingabout the room. "And we'll get all the others with our weapon!!"
"Mistress??" The demonling prompted.
"What Krall??" Na'ora monotoned, stopping mid-dance.
"We have to GET them first, mistress."
"OH SHUT UP KRALL, RUIN MY RANT...FINE!!!"

"The destiny business??"
Evan raised an eyebrow at the Demon Lord, who hadn't spokensince the night in the grove. "Finally back in the world of the living,M'lord??"
"Just answer the question."
The redhead pursed his lips. "Hmm...Pushy...But yes,the destiny business."
Steven tossed his hair over one shoulder in a burst ofsudden annoyance. "What does that mean, exactly??"
"...Well, I'm a bit of a prophet--- I tell fortunesroutinely..."
"No! What do you mean about Destiny??"
Evan was silent. "Congradulations, M'lord. You haveeffectively deciphered the difference between Fate--prophecy--, and Destiny."
"Not exactly." Steven sighed, watching the roadas he walked.
"..Well, then, to put it simply, fate is a hell ofa lot more cryptic than the other."
"A person needs to make their own destiny."
"Exactly."
"My sister said that."
"Dahnlin??"
Steven blinked a few times and looked sullenly at hisgrinning guide. "Yeah, of course you knew. Bastard."
Evan chuckled and pointed down the road to a man drivinga cart. "Hood up M'lord. We're almost in Morainne."
Steven sighed and complied.
