Synopsis
|
Dr. Wai In The Scripture With No Words is actually the final chapter in the "King Of Adventurers" story by Chow Si-Kit, a struggling writer, played by Jet Li. Si-Kit is having marital difficulties with his wife of 2 years, Monica, played by Rosemund Kwan. His assistants include Shing played by Takeshi Kaneshiro and Yvonne played by Charlie Yeung. Si-Kit has no motivation and no ideas to finish his story, because of his marital strife, so his assistants, Shing and Yvonee help him out by occasionally writing the story as they go along. The story tho correlates to his real life struggles and hopes etc. The story begins with a giant mechanical Golden Ox suddenly going out of control and crushing and killing people. Enter the "King of Adventurers and his student Shing. Dr. Wai saves the day by stopping the golden ox. Later, Dr. Wai and Shing are asked by their friend General Lone, to help him retrieve a letter held the Japanese Embassy which contains clues to the location of a mysterious box said to have information to the whereabouts of "The Scripture With No Words", a legendary document said to predict the future and make any wishes come true for the finder. The box, which has been passed down by ancestors of a group called the Salt Gang, is said to leave a trail of tragedy whenever it's found. The exact location of the box and the document arent known and havent been found for ages. That is until the "King of Adventurers" takes a shot at it. Dr. Wai and Shing, dressed up as concubines, sneak into the Japanese Embassy and plan to steal the letter. Here Dr. Wai meets up with Cammy (who is also incidentally Monica) and falls for her. Dr. Wai and Shing knock out the lights and sneak into the office said to contain the document. The King of Adventurers meets up with Cammy again as he is stealing the letter and has to fight off a crew of angry Japanese guards. Wai and Shing escape successfully, with Wai promising Cammy that he will see her again. Back in 'real' life, Chow Si-Kit reads what his assistants have written down and decides to change things. He says that Dr. Wai has been decieved and that the real Cammy is an evil, heart-less bitch who performs strange "experiments" on men and is the head of the Japanese group. Si-Kit explains that Monica is like Cammy. Monica overhears this. They get into an argument at Si-Kit's office and she leaves angry. However, there is an accident and she gets hurt in an elevator. Si-Kit rushes her to the hospital. In the meantime, his assistants take over writing the story again and redeems Cammy saying that he misunderstood her. Dr. Wai most likely will give the letter to General Lone so Cammy's gang, headed by Tao Fei, plots to kill the General at a crowded train station. Tao Fei, without her knowledge and to prevent Cammy and Dr. Wai from falling in love, releases poisonous gas into the crowd and she falls victim. Dr. Wai saves her in a dramatic train scene. After General Lone's death, Dr. Wai and Shing search for clues on their own. The letter contained only 2 words "Righteous News". They visit a very unpopular newspaper office bearing the same name and are hired as watchmen. They also meet May (?)a newspaper employee there, also played by Charlie Yeung, and Takeshi's Character falls for her in the story and in 'real' life. The Headmaster of the newspaper, Tuen Muk Ming, is a descendant of the Salt Gang and he hid the box within the newspaper office cellar. Dr. Wai and Shing, discover the whereabouts of the box as well as the dangers of the box. If opened accidentally , the box will either incinerate or mutilate its opener within at least a 100 ft radius. If opened a second time it will literally disintegrate its victim. Quite Powerful Indeed! The problem is another descendant of the Salt Gang, Nei Leung, (?) also found out the whereabouts of the box and tries to take it from them. A battle takes place and the box is accidentally opened by Nei Leung, which mutilates him into a monster, but a very strong one and he escapes. Dr. Wai retains the box but is captured by Cammy and her gang, to search for the Scripture's whereabouts. Carved on the box itself is a map leading to the whereabouts of the legendary "Scripture With No Words". They all take a plane to what looks like the Great Wall of China. Dr. Wai's gang manages to take over the plane, however Nei Leung is on board and threatens their flight. Shing tries to fly the plane as Dr. Wai fights with Nei. The plane gets damaged starts going down and Dr. Wai and the gang escape using parachutes. They find along the great wall a brick that is hollow. The box is placed there and suddenly descending stairs leading into a cave appear. Dr. Wai, Shing, Cammy and May enter into a large cave with stone statues, fire and the scripture with no words. They go to take the document but Nei shows up and fights with them. Somehow in the battle the box gets opened up again and Nei and Cammy are caught in the middle of it. Dr. Wai and his assistants try to help her.... it disintegrated Nei. Later on the scripture talks to them and predicts each one of their futures, much to the dismay of Yvonne. Monica recovers and Si-Kit and her talk and decide to work something out.. :) |

Dr. Wai in the Scripture With No Words was a fun, action-packed and romantic movie. True to Dr Wai's name, the King of Adventurers, kicks bu**!! ;). There were some amazing fight scenes and special effects. There is a great scene where Dr. Wai ties up his enemy, who has a gun, with a pen, and points the barrel back at the enemy. I liked Takeshi's character Shing altho he was a bit of a 'chicken' and he never really helped while fighting, etc. He did however fly a mean plane! Also, to see how Takeshi would look like if he was female is also something not to be missed! I thought he was quite attractive being a female altho he is much more handsome being a male. :P Dr. Wai was great and true to his name "The King of Adventurers". At the end of the Adventurer's story, there was some hope for Cammy/Monica which reflected the hope for the marriage of Si-kit and Monica..... Rating : |
