Chapter Sixteen: A Finality to End All Sorrow
"I feel so strange.....like.....I'm floating."
Eternal Sailor Moon could hear her own voice ringing through her ears but she couldn't see anything at all. Her body felt numb and the temperature around her was low enough to make her want to shiver. She realized that her eyes weren't open but she couldn't seem to part her eyelids. She winced a little and with a great amount of effort, opened her eyes weakly. All that came into view were blurry objects floating past her face and around her. Everything else was black and she let out an exhausted sigh then blinked a few times to focus her vision. Now she could distinguish pieces of rock floating around her and looked out through the remnants of the Omega Master's castle. Any direction she looked held the same thing, endless space adorned with chunks of rock and mortar. The fact that she was completely bare was lost on her as she was submerged in a flurry of emotions. Then her memories came back and she hugged herself lightly from the coldness, "Y....Yamito?" His last words rang in her head and she clenched her teeth, looking blankly forward with a lonely shake in her voice, "Rei? Mamo-chan? Anybody?" The great emptiness around her absorbed her voice and she whimpered lightly, closing her eyes and shivering a bit, "I'm......all alone." After a long silence a glow caught her attention and she looked towards it slowly. She saw only a glowing mass of light shimmering a little ways away from her but it seeded her hopes enough to make her speak a little louder, "Hello? Who.....who's there?"
A voice answered her back that took her by surprise, "Sailor Moon." Soon the glow grew larger and formed into the body of a person. The figure it transformed into made Sailor Moon take a few breaths of air but remain silent. The figure repeated her name once more and it seemed to support his existence, "Hello, Usagi."
"Shadow Moon? Is that you?"
Dressed in a pure white variation of the Shadow senshi's uniform, Super Shadow Moon floated before her naked figure and tilted his head a bit as he looked into her eyes, "Yes, it is. How does it feel to be alive?"
The question seemed to hit her pretty hard and she hugged herself once more, shivering from the temperature, "Cold. All of the others......"
"Yes, they have all died. Even Endymion was killed when Shadow Mars was consumed by his power. That, unfortunately, was not supposed to happen." His words did little to console her and weightless tears floated into the space before her face. She didn't even open her eyes again as she floated before him and just soaked in the losses she had just endured. Then a light smile crossed Shadow Moon's face and he watched her intently, "I do have to thank you. Even after I had given up on Yamito, you and the others hadn't. I was glad to be proven wrong." She still didn't say anything and his face suddenly dimmed a bit, "Unfortunately, this isn't over yet. The Omega Master was supposed to leave Endymion's body when defeated by Shadow Mars, but he refused. Now, he's out of control. The higher powers of the Universe have deemed you to be the one to end this for good." Her eyes slowly opened and she looked at him with a renewed sense of fear. This entire thing was still in motion and all she had left was herself. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. It caused Shadow Moon to frown a bit, "Yes, the Omega Master is still alive, though now only as a mass of energy. In this form, he can cause endless destruction to a number of planes. You need to stop him now, Usagi."
"He...is still alive?"
The fear in her voice shook wildly and he could see how worried she was. He simply nodded and pointed off into the distance from them both, "The Omega Master." Her eyes followed his gesture and fell on a slight glimmer in the darkness. Presently, the glimmer was growing and she shivered once as she looked at it. It caused even deeper concern in Shadow Moon, "No longer bound by a physical body, he's even more powerful than before. And he's coming after you, Sailor Moon."
Then, the fear in her eyes faded away and she pulled her legs up into her, floating there in a little ball, "I don't care. All my friends are gone. Both Yamito and my Mamo-chan are gone. I have nothing left."
This turn took Shadow Moon by surprise and he blinked a few times at her. After a quick look to the approaching glimmer, he looked back to her and spoke loudly to her sensibilities, "Sailor Moon, you must defeat him. You still have your responsibility to protect your world.......no, your universe!" She still didn't react and he floated over to her snd grabbed her by the arms sternly, "Sailor Moon! Only you are left to stop him! Do you want all of them to have died in vain?"
She finally looked up at him and tears filled her eyes. Letting out a long sigh he pleaded with her with his own blue eyes, "Sailor Moon....Usagi, trust yourself. They are all here with you....all of them." His eyes then wandered up to a point away from them and she blinked. Soon though she followed his eyes and found a ghostly pair facing them both. Her eyes widened at the sight and both Suteki and Minako smiled widely at her.
"Take care of the wanker, Usagi. Kick some butt and take names later, ya know?"
"Yeah, and do it in the name of love. You know there's no greater power."
She wanted to reach out for them but their forms soon faded away from sight. Suddenly she felt alone again and looked around quickly for them, "Minako! Suteki!" What she did find was two different figures floating in a different place. She suddenly got choked up again as Makoto and Kage looked at her with the same, sad smiles.
"Defend yourself well, Usagi. Remember to fight with your heart."
"Your greatest technique is your ability to care. Be true to yourself and he'll be no match for you."
"Kage? Makoto?" Sailor Moon barely whispered but the two soon disappeared as well. Two new figures appeared on the other side of her and she turned quickly to look at Michiru and Haruka.
"Do it for all mankind. Save all those who can't save themselves."
"Don't let him destroy our Universe. You can do it, I know you can."
As they both disappeared like the others, Sailor Moon started to feel much more confident about herself and bit her lip lightly. Then her eyes were caught by two more figures and she looked upon Ami and Kurai with a more determined look.
"You only need one strategy."
"Yes, fight with your heart and nothing can defeat you."
It even brought a light smile on her face and she nodded as the two disappeared from sight. Then a red glow filled the air around her and she felt her heart skip a beat at who would be next. She slowly looked to two figures coming into focus and felt her breath stop. Rei and Yamito faced each other with closed eyed and glowed with auras of angels. Sailor Moon's emotions fell apart once more as she looked at them and desperately wanted to touch either one. But she would be denied as they both opened their eyes and looked to her slowly.
"Come on, odango. Show that Omega Master he can't go around destroying things while Sailor senshi are around."
"Prove that being a leader is more than having the most power. Show him that true power comes from inside.....from the depths of our very souls. End this forever, Usako."
As they started to fade away as well Sailor Moon reached out for them and let a mass of tears into the space around her, "Yamito! Rei-chan!" However she was once again alone, only the ghostly figure of Shadow Moon to accompany her. It was more than she could take as she started to sob into her hands. Shadow Moon just set his hand on her shoulder and watched intently.
"You see, Sailor Moon? They are all still with you. And they believe in you, every one of them."
She looked all around at the emptiness and drew in a few, shaky breaths. Although she couldn't see them anymore, she knew they were still with her and she suddenly felt a surge of her own power. Her greatest ability came to the surface once more and she gripped her hand tightly with determination. She wouldn't let the others deaths be for nothing. She would fulfill Shadow Mars's vow and stop the Omega Master for good. She would save the world once more from the grips of evil. And she would do this all, not alone in the emptiness of the space, but with all of her friends with her.
Soon the power that had once been just a glimmer swirled into a massive gathering of black energy and two hate-filled eyes glowed in the middle of it. From inside of the energy came a terrible voice that shook her body as it spoke.
"Sailor Moon! Now I will kill you as well!"
U2: Pride (In the name of Love)
The two senshi of the moon faced off against the very core of the Omega Master and became the last barriers to the pure evil he represented. Although Shadow Moon was already gone and merely a spirit, he would aid her as well as he could and provide Sailor Moon the assistance she needed to finish this for good. Sailor Moon kept seeing her friends in her mind and all of the sacrifices they had given to get to this point. Her body tightened as she floated before the evil and pressed her lips together with determination. A light glow appeared in front of her and the Ginzuishou soon appeared between her and the Omega Master. It let off a glow that spread behind her and gave her wings of light that spread out into the blackness around her.
As she prepared for the fight the Omega Master also set himself into the final struggle. The energy that now encompassed him surged out and grew into a figure of a super-powerful Omega monster. The beast towered over the senshi before it and a symbol of Omega appeared across its chest. Then the laughing voice of the Omega Master filled the air and seemed to just seep out of the terrible creature.
"Hahaha, are you ready to die now? Your pathetic crystal won't be able to harm me!"
Although his taunting was loud and fierce, Sailor Moon just narrowed her eyes and reached her hand out, letting her fingers caress the powered up Ginzuishou. The two remained stationary for a while, neither moving or making a sound. Shadow Moon could only watch as he waited for the battle to come. And come it did.
The Omega Master left no time for reaction as the beast threw its hand forward at her and roared. The hand changed into a massive column of energy and came down on her with all of the force of a thousand stars. However the power simply hit the Ginzuishou and was stopped by its light. It made a visible impact on Sailor Moon but she seemed to be keeping the energy at bay. The Omega Master was undaunted by the force and kept attacking the crystal with the beast's form. Soon Sailor Moon began to wince from the strain and clenched her teeth tightly. Her concern came wildly over her strained voice and worried Shadow Moon.
"I can't stop him. He's too strong for me to beat on my own!"
Her words seemed to fuel the Omega Master's laugh and his power and the beam of energy from the beast intensified. Shadow Moon watched in shock as Sailor Moon started to push backwards from the blast and the black energy soon started to inch closer and closer to the dimming Ginzuishou. Despite her determination and obvious power, the Omega Master's core entity seemed to be too much for just a single senshi to overcome.
It was then another entity intervened.
A sudden presence washed over Shadow Moon and he blinked blankly a few times. New information seemed to lighten his face and he suddenly looked to the Omega Master with a grim smile. His status as a senshi had suddenly been revived and his image disappeared into a flash of light.
Sailor Moon suddenly heard the roar from the beast and a great relief in her struggle against its power. Her blue eyes opened slowly and she looked to find Shadow Moon floating between her and the beast. All of the power from it was absorbing into Shadow Moon and he seemed unaffected by it all. The entire thing made Sailor Moon blink in shock and lower her hand from the Ginzuishou.
"Sentaku?"
"What are you doing!? You can't interfere like this! How dare you....."
"How dare you defy the will of the higher powers and remain in Endymion's body!" Shadow Moon said sternly and interrupted the Omega Master's protest. The beast just kept trying to push through him to the other senshi but Shadow Moon wasn't done yet, "You knew they would not accept your defiance. This is your punishment for breaking the rules....to be defeated by Sailor Moon and banished from the Highence forever." Although this all was beyond Sailor Moon's understanding, the Omega Master roared out in hysterics and started rambling incoherently as the energy from the beast became ten times more powerful. Still Shadow Moon seemed undaunted by it and turned his head back to Sailor Moon, "You know to end this, Sailor Moon. I can't do anything more than give you the time to stop him. Only you can do that."
Although she was still a bit lost about the entire thing, Sailor Moon dismissed it all and gathered the last of her strength, "Right! Celestial.......Crystal........Power!"
The Ginzuishou floated away from her hand and started to glow, becoming a ball of energy shining so bright the Omega Master's own energy could hardly be seen. The crystal started to spin and slowly became a gathering of pure white energy. Then the energy built up and blasted its way from her hand to the black energy of the Omega Master. A loud shriek of pain ripped through the air as the Omega Master tried to fight the energy. The crystal inside glowed brighter and slowly, started to fade the Omega Master out of existence.
"My masters, I did not betray you! Forgive me!"
The evil of the Omega Master finally faded away into nothing and left the Ginzuishou floating in its place. The once brilliant light from the crystal now left it and only a dead crystal floated in the empty space. The power of it had left just as the Omega Master and soon the only light in the place was the light coming from the ghostly image of Shadow Moon.
"You did it, Sailor Moon. The Omega Master is finally defeated." He said with great satisfaction and slowly turned to her. Her motionless body floated there silently with deep shadows cast over her face. Her form was as lifeless as the Ginzuishou and hid face quickly dimmed. As he drew her up into his arms and looked into her face thoughtfully, he smiled once more and looked off into the nothingness, "You've earned the rest, Sailor Moon. The Omega Master is gone and your world is safe. You truly are a special being."
An eternity passed as he held her and only the passing rocks signaled time existed at all in this place. Then a figure slowly appeared out of a swirl of purple energy and lingered being Shadow Moon silently. It was a few moments before he knew it was there but he quickly spun around to face it with a blink. His mouth opened to speak but he found no words. The figure just floated before him and held to a staff in his hand, his image shrouded by the darkness. Only his mouth could be seen moving as he spoke in a quiet but powerful voice.
"The release of the Omega Master into your realm was our doing. In penance, I offer to fix this mistake and return things to the way they were before he appeared." Another light filled the darkness as a purple orb on the staff in his hand started to glow with an amazing power. The orb began to twist the fabric of the space around them and Shadow Moon looked around quickly and with a racing heart. He almost choked at the thought of returning back to the way things were and he looked to the figure once more as he spoke, "The Shadow senshi and Sailor senshi will return to their own dimensions. None of this.....will have ever happened."
Shadow Moon looked down to Sailor Moon's face and winced, thinking about all of that. His eyes filled with turmoil and he remembered the past and what Yamito had once said to him. He even repeated it out loud but only to himself, "A Shadow senshi will never find love in this world. My spirit has wandered our entire universe and found......it is alone." The words really only meant much to him and he continued to look over Sailor Moon as space twisted around them both, "He was alone until he met you, Usagi. Now he loves two girls.....they all have found love our world couldn't offer. How could I take all of that away from them so I could be once more?" The question just fell across her relaxed face and he closed his eyes tightly. As the other figure was ready to return things back to the way they were before, Shadow Moon opened his sorrowful eyes and spoke in a loud, but sure voice.
"Wait.....I have a request."
It was a beautiful day in Juuban park. The sun came down on the grass warmly and many couples were enjoying the warm, sunny day. Life was a bustle among the creatures that lived their lives in the sun and the sounds of autumn were saturating the air.
In the middle of the park, six particular couples were enjoying the day more than anybody can possibly imagine.
"Two cones, chocolate of course." Suteki said and looked down over the ice cream with an anxious grin. His blonde hair hung down across the cat slung over his shoulder and Artimus batted a few strands away with his paw. After a moment he also looked down over the ice cream and spoke quietly so only Suteki could hear him.
"I wish they had salmon ice cream."
"I thought you were a sardines cat, Artimus." Luna quipped as she sat on Minako's shoulder, a mere step away from the other two. The Ice cream vendor was busy making the cones and Artimus tilted his head with a smug look on his face.
"I prefer variety."
"I think chocolate is just the best." Minako cheered and hugged Suteki's arm tightly. She looked up to him with a content sigh and watched as he took the cones from the vendor. As he presented one of them to her, he winked and gave her his typical charm.
"Yep, it's sweet just like you, Minako." With a giggle she took the cone and still held to his arm with her other hand. Then the four made their way across the park and basked in the warm day together. Their direction took them towards a picnic cloth with an eaten lunch adorning its surface. Next to the cloth were two figures under a mighty oak tree. Both seemed full from the meal and Makoto leaned back against the tree from a stretch. Her eyes wandered down to the figure with his head on her lap and she leaned back forward to run her fingers through his spiky brown hair.
"How was it?"
Kage's peat green eyes wandered up to the emerald green eyes that looked down at him and a smile crept over his face. He also stretched out his defined body and rested his head in her lap with a content breath, "It couldn't have been better. Not many can say their girl cooks better than any gourmet chef in Tokyo, Mako-chan."
His comments forced a blush across her face and she giggled a bit, staring at him with a love-sick sigh. The elements around them were better than any book she had read and continued to twiddle her slim fingers through his hair, "Isn't this just a perfect day, ai?"
"The only thing that makes a day perfect.....is you." He replied and idly traced his fingers up and down the calf of her bare leg. The two exchanged sweet talk like this as another couple perched on a bench a few meters away.
Ami was leaning against Kurai and looking over a strange book she held in her hands. His arm was around her but his attentions were fixed in another strange looking book. After a silent moment, she leaned forward and turned to look at him with a smile, "So how many books did you manage to get from that library?"
"Unfortunately our departure was rather haste, so I would estimate I saved.......a tenth of his total inventory." He replied and didn't look up from the book he was reading. The reflection of his glasses hid where his eyes were focused at the moment and she nodded a bit before turning back and resting her back against him once more. After another moment, she opened her book and stared blankly at the first page.
"How many is that?"
Now he surprised her by setting his book down and putting his arm around her tighter, causing her to look up at him again. She could now see his eyes fixed on her through his glasses and a tinge of red dashed across her face. He merely smiled and spoke in a soft tone to her, "Enough to last a lifetime." She could only nod and try to hid her blush, but he found it funny anyway. Soon they both went back to reading and used the bright light from the sun to fuel their cause. Just a few benches down, Haruka and Michiru sat looking at them all with bemused expressions on their face. Soon enough Setsuna approached them and held her designer's portfolio in front of her. They both looked up to her and Haruka raised a brow at her unusual expression.
"Are you going to tell us who had the Omega Master so worried? Why he didn't want to risk fighting you?"
The subject caused a light smile on Setsuna's face and she remained tightlipped about the whole thing. Michiru found it oddly funny and giggled a few times, then looked to Haruka with a smile, "Setsuna has many secrets she can't tell us. Are you going to lose sleep over it if she doesn't tell you?"
Haruka blinked a few times, then miffed and looked back across the park with a submissive shrug, "If someone has that much power, I just want to know whose side they're on."
"The person you speak of is very dear to me." Both of the girls looked to Setsuna and blinked as she held out her left hand slowly. A beautiful ring adorned her ring finger and shined with unnatural brilliance. It made both of them speechless and Setsuna closed her eyes slowly and smiled, "He has his own side. Although I cannot say his name, trust that he does what it takes to preserve balance. I can tell you no more." Now Haruka wanted to know even more and eyed the ring with a narrowed glance. All the while, the last four figures stood in front of a flower bed and made up the heart of the senshi group.
"That flower has a bee on it! Don't get it mad or it'll sting us!"
Usagi's wailing made Rei twitch lightly and she looked to the small fly on the rose before them, "Don't be such a baby. It's only a fly, odango." Usagi was too far into her fit and she flailed her arms around as the fly flew off into the air. Soon she was pawing all over Rei and trying to get away from the bug. Rei was getting really angry and tried to get her to stop, "Agh! Get off me! You're such a cry-baby sometimes!"
A few meters away two figures stood and watched the two silently. Yamito brushed some of his brown hair from his face and watched the two with a stoic look on his face, "At least a bug is the worst of Usagi's worries now."
"I agree." Mamoru replied and watched them as well. They two stood together and held a mutual respect between them now. The girls they loved were still going at it when Mamoru idly looked over to Yamito and smiled lightly, "So, what are you going to do now that the Omega Master is gone?"
Those dark eyes moved over to him slowly and he remained silent for a while. Then a smile cracked his face and he spoke in a tone he hadn't used since before the war of his dimension, "I think I'll just be Yamito for a while." The idea made Mamoru smile and he nodded once, then they both looked back to the girls. The twelve senshi basked in the peace they had obtained and found happiness in all of its treasures. Shadow Moon's sacrifice paved the way for the Shadow senshi to be with their Sailor counterparts and he remained silently observant of their lives. So life went on in Tokyo as a powerful new peace settled over the land. The powers for good had never been so strong.
In a small corner of the universe, in a solar system among thousands in the Milky Way, on a little blue planet with one small moon, a war was fought. Good and evil, the classic struggle set in the extreme with the end result being, Sailor Moon defeating the ultimate evil, the Omega Master. All was as it should be, Usagi was late for school. Makoto and Kage were busy cleaning their apartment. Minako and Suteki were having a pleasant volleyball game with some friends. Ami and Kurai were studying for school exams. Haruka and Michiru were at the park and Rei and Yamito were busy at the shrine. The universe was safe and peaceful..........finally.
