Are those your eyes, is that your smile
I've been lookin' at you forever
But I never saw you before
Are these your hands holdin' mine
Now I wonder how I could of been so blind
For the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seein' who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're lookin' back at me
Now I understand why love is...
Love is... for the first time...
Can this be real, can this be true
Am I the person I was this morning
And are you the same you
It's all so strange how can it be
All along this love was right in front of me
For the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seein' who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're lookin' back at me
Now I understand why love is...
Love is... for the first time...
Such a long time ago
I had given up on findin' this emotion...
Ever again
But you live with me now
Yes I've found you some how
And I've never been so sure
And for the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seein' who you are
Can't believe how much I see
When you're lookin' back at me
Now I understand why love is...
Love is... for the first time...

Mamoru walked down the street with his hands in his pocket, paying no
attention to anyone who passed him or even checked him out. He loved
Usagi but at the same time he knew he shouldn't or couldn't at least
in that way. All his life he had loved Usagi as a little sister but
could he ever really love her as more than that? There was so much he
wanted to say to her but couldn't. Oh God. He sighed to himself,
he just needed to get her out of his head-WHAM!
"I'm so sorry", he said and looked up to see a pretty dark-haired
girl with sparkling brown eyes. She looked about his age and he
felt horrible for making her drop the dozens of books she was
holding. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine", she replied and he noticed that she had dropped a pair
of red-rimmed glasses. Carefully he picked them up and gave them
to her. "Oh thank you!" Putting them on she gathered her books.
"I'm Kumiko" She pushed her bangs out of her eyes and pushed her
long hair behind her back with one hand. Kumiko held her hand out
and Mamoru shook it.
"I'm Mamoru", he said to her and they smiled at one another. Kumiko
was taken abashed by the young man's handsomeness and the kindness
he had shown her. It reminded her of someone she use to know...
"Mamoru, would you like to go out with me?" Kumiko asked suddenly
and both of them were surprised by her upfront invitation. Usagi
however laid deep in Mamoru's mind and secretly in his heart.
He didn't want to be with anyone but her. However there was a
sadness in Kumiko that he saw in her eyes and found that he
could not say no.
"Sure...", he said with uncertainty. Her face brightened like
a light. "Where do you wanna go?"
"How about you take me out for a chocolate sundae?" she suggested
with a sly grin and he chuckled.
"A chocolate sundae it is", Mamoru answered with a smile.

Usagi sat with Rei, Ami, Makoto and Minako as she without any
mercy attacked a bowl of strawberry ice cream. She had gotten
close to the girls since they all went to her school with the
exception of Rei who went to another school. All four of them
had become somewhat surrogate older sisters to Usagi for they
protected her and made sure no one unwanted bothered her. They
couldn't help but want to take care of their friend, she was
somewhat fragile to them.
"So how was your date with Takeo?" Minako asked her as she sipped
on her own milkshake.
"You were right, he is an idiot", Usagi said and sighed. "He's not
what I'm looking for" Her mind drifted to Mamoru who had somehow
disappeared from her life since she had started to date. Why had
had he been acting like this? Was he jealous? He had been the only
guy she use to hang around with. On the other hand she saw no
reason why he should be jealous, Takeo wasn't really what she
was looking for. In her heart she felt a longing for something
else, someone else...
"OH MY GOD! Is that Mamoru?", Makoto exclaimed almost choking on
her soda. Usagi and the others quickly whipped around to see
Mamoru come in with a beautiful girl with long raven hair
and the most enchanting eyes anyone ever saw. Something in
Usagi began to hurt, perhaps her heart and somehow her eyes
filled with tears. Wiping them away quickly she continue to
watch them as Mamoru introduced the girl to Motoki.
"She's gorgeous..." Minako breathed. "Check her out. Pure college
girl at all its glory. I can't believe Mamoru is actually on a
date, she must be one hell of a person to get him"
"She's smart too", Ami remarked. "Look at all those books...and
half of them are math books. Maybe they met at Mamoru's school"
As the others gawked at the girl Rei was the only one aware of
Usagi's reaction to the girl. She saw the glassy look in her eyes
and sadness in them. How could they've been so blind? She understood
perfectly what was going on when all of sudden Usagi stood up and
the chair she sat on scrap loudly against the ground.
"You know what? I have to go help my mom...do something", she said
and gathered her things. Without even a goodbye Usagi made a quick
exit. The others were quiet for a moment wondering what would make
her so upset.
"I can't believe you guys don't know what's that about", Rei said.
"Don't you guys understand? Usagi is upset about Mamoru"
"Oh God, I never saw it", Minako said quietly. "She must be so hurt"
"Should we tell Mamoru?" Makoto asked her friends.
"No, we're not even sure that's why she's upset", Ami said though
she doubted what she said.
"Yeah I'm sure she's upset because of all those math books she
carrying!" Rei exclaimed. "But you're right we shouldn't tell
Mamoru just yet" Inside there was a light of hope that she somehow
held for Usagi...and Mamoru.

"So have you met Kumiko?" Ikuko asked her daughter as they worked
in the kitchen. In response to the question Usagi ruthlessly ripped
the edge of a stringbean.
"No", she answered quietly as she kept on working. All week her
daughter had been quiet and morose towards almost everything.
Ikuko had never seen anyone work in a kitchen so depressingly.
"She's a sweet girl, Usagi. Maeko and I met her when Mamoru
brought her to the house. Beautiful, isn't she? And smart too."
So he was bringing her home to meet the FOLKS?! Usagi ripped
another stringbean. It wasn't like they were getting married
or something. The jerk didn't have the nerve to introduce
her to his new girlfriend. There goes another stringbean.
Why should she care? He could date anyone he wanted. She
DIDN'T care. Why was this stringbean so hard to rip. "Usagi
do you know that you're trying to rip apart a CARROT?"
"Oh", she said simply and then began to crack up. Ikuko smiled
happy to see her smiling. Suddenly Usagi realized in mid-laughter
that tears began to fill her eyes but they weren't in happiness.
"Excuse me" Getting up she ran up to her room trying to hide it.
Every mother has a sense when her kids are upset and Ikuko's radar
was on high. What would upset Usagi so greatly? Well they were
taking about Kumiko, Maeko, Mamoru...Ikuko looked up from what
she was doing. Could it be?
******************************************************************
Mamoru walked quietly with Kumiko as they made their way to Rei's
house. He knew that she was talking but right now he couldn't see
anyone but Usagi. She was in his mind, in his eyes, in his heart...
"Mamoru, you there?" Kumiko said smiling as he turned to her. She
was glad she met him but whatever was between them was not romantic-
wise. "We need to talk" The smile had faded off her lips and they
stopped Mamoru saw they were only feet away from Rei's place.
"What is it?" he asked and they turned to each other.
"Mamoru I know that you're spending all your time with me but there's
someone else that you'd rather be spending your time with", Kumiko
said to him and looked up at his blue eyes.
"I'm sorry Kumiko", Mamoru said to her and she cupped his cheek in
her palm. "I'm in love with someone but it isn't you" Her eyes clouded
over because what he said was true. She was in love just not with
him.
"Well I think I know who you're going after" Her mind went back a
month ago to the pretty blonde who had run out of the Arcade in
tears. She must love Mamoru so much. "Well don't just stand there,
tell her"
"I don't know...she's never thought of me like that", Mamoru responded
and Kumiko wondered how any girl could ever NOT look at Mamoru in THAT
way.
"Well MAKE her love you", she said softly and then kissed Mamoru softly
on the lips. Kumiko smiled at him one last time and began to walk away.
She had her own work to do.
"Kumiko!" he said and she turned around. "Make HIM love you" And
with that she was gone.
************************************************************************
Usagi walked quietly through Rei's house holding a teacup in her hand.
She didn't feel like hanging around the girls right now because unlike
them she was feeling extremely unhappy. Why was she even feeling like
this? Walking into Rei's room she sat next to the window and slid the
curtain so that she could look at the sunset. Her cup fell to the ground
as she saw that Kumiko and Mamoru were only a yard away from her. They
were face to face looking into each other's eyes as Kumiko held Mamoru's
cheek in her hand. They were beautiful together. Not once had she
stopped to look at them or realize how selfish she had been. She
had not ONCE thought of Mamoru happiness. What a friend she had been.
"I hope you're happy Mamo-chan", she whispered to herself though she
was unaware that tears were rolling down her face.
************************************************************************
Rei walked silently down the hall, she and the others had been
wondering where Usagi had gone. They decided that it had been
too long so Rei decided to go after her. Nearing her bedroom
she stopped at the doorway to see Usagi looking out the window.
She sat so still she could have easily been mistaken for a statue.
Usagi looked to her side and down her face a river of sparkling tears
fell. They shone as they went down. Her face had taken on a sad,
ghostly like apperance. It was as if Rei was watching a dream.
She turned from the doorway into the hall where she leaned her head
against a wall. Why would Usagi be so sad?
"Mamoru", she whispered. Rei finally knew. What would happen now,
she didn't know.
************************************************************************
Mamoru entered the hallway to see Rei laying the back of head against
the hall. She seemed to be so deep in thought that she didn't even
notice his heavy footsteps.
"Rei?" He said and she drew out of the coma she was in. There was
a strange look in her eyes, one of recognition and melancholy. She
put her hand up as if she was telling him to stop.
"I don't know if you should go in there just yet", Rei said quietly.
He looked inside to see that Usagi was in there on her knees, but
he saw that shimmering tears fell to the floor making it wet. His
heart began to hurt to see her in so much pain. "What's going on?"
Mamoru was going to find out.
"Usako?"
