out with Rei but Usagi and Mamoru are in this story.
This fic is completely different and some of the
things you may read are for more mature readers so
I am warning you to stop reading this story if you
are not the appropriate age or maturity for it. This
will contain some sexual content but it is NOT a lemon.
Ages may be different among other things.
Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test

It's not a question

It's something unpredictable

Hang it on a shelf

Time of Your Life (Chapter One)
By: JLaLa (JLynPinay@aol.com)
~~~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@
Where do we begin? Rei Hino walked slowly out of the airplane and took
her first steps out into the strange city of Tokyo. How strange it was
after all these years to be back in the homeland she never knew and
about to meet the brother she never knew. As long as she remembered
her home had been America and now it wasn't. And for as long as she
remembered she had no blood kin and now she did. And suddenly her
last name wasn't Hino but Chiba. Hino had been a surname they used
for her at the orphanage. How she even ended up there she didn't know,
halfway around the world from Tokyo, Japan her supposed birthplace.
Now at seventeen her whole life had changed in a moment when they
sent her the documents proving that this boy Mamoru Chiba was her
brother.
Her eyes locked in the crowd of people to another pair. A sullen
looking young man of nineteen with dark eyes and dark hair like hers.
She walked to him gripping her suitcase, the only belongings she had
and looked at the boy who her brother. She scanned him nervously and
gave him a small smile.
"Mamoru?", She asked quietly and the boy nodded. Gee, not much of a
talker. Quickly he took her bag and turned to walk. Following quietly
Rei walked with her brother in silence not knowing what to say. After
checking out her bag with security they walked to the airport garage
and he led her to a small black sports car. Were her mother and father
wealthy enough to buy their son a car like this? And why had they not
come to greet her? She had no time to worry when they told her for
the plans went through quickly and they had her packed off in a plane
before she knew it. Driving away she watched the boy and studied him
quietly looking for a small part of her that would let her know that
this silent boy was her kin. "Momma and Papa, are they at home?" He
turned to her with hard eyes.
"Didn't they tell you? Our parents are dead", Mamoru informed her
harshly and then turned his eyes to the road again.
"Oh", She said in a small voice. Her eyes filled with tears and
something in his eyes softened a bit.
"I live in the house our parents bought, it's a few blocks from
downtown Tokyo. It has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and
one bathroom. It's small but it works", He told her not acknowledging
the sad look in her eyes. It occured to Mamoru that Rei had not been
properly informed when she was sent to him and he wondered what else
they had left out for him to tell. "I expect you know to keep your
room clean and everything in it's place. I work in a warehouse and
usually come home late so you'll be cooking for yourself" At the
moment Rei felt as if she were falling, would it always be like this?
That she would always be left alone? Biting her lip to keep her tears
in place she nodded.
"Yes Mamoru, of course", She said and a small redbrick house came
into view. They parked into the small garage and after closing it
they walked up the hard steps. Rei held on to her belongings and
after Mamoru opened the door walked tenatively up some wooden stairs
leading up to the house. The hardwood floors made her every step into
the house clanked loudly. This was HER home. No one else's. Her brown
eyes glowed in appreciation and contentment with it.
"Here's your bedroom", Mamoru said and opened the door to a small
bedroom with white walls and a matching dresser and desk along with
her bed. The sun shone through the curtains. She loved it.
"It's great", She said to him and he was astounded at her appreciation
for small things.
"I'll let you sleep", He said to her quickly and turned to leave.
"Thank you", Rei said sincerely and smiled at him. Nodding his head
again he closed the door. Laying on the bed her eyes closed and she
felt that the first time she could belong somewhere.
*********************************************************************
The sound of a child crying out echoed and Rei looked to see a small
child crouched in a corner. It was her, her long brown hair stuck to
her forehead and she herself crying.
"The reason you're hear is because no one wanted YOU!", A voice
yelled.
"BRAT!"
"WORTHLESS CHILD!"
"NO ONE WANTS YOU! NOT EVEN YOUR OWN FAMILY!"
Rei opened her eyes and looked around. Outside she heard the sound of
cars passing and the sun peeked through her windows. Wiping the sweat
off her brow she sat up and opening the door walked to the kitchen.
To her surprise sitting at the table of the small kitchen was a girl
of sixteen with blond hair that reached to her ankles.
And she was in her pajamas.
"Rei?", The girl asked and her blue eyes looked joyously at her. "Sit"
Quickly and obidiently she sat and the girl handed her a box of cereal
that was on the table. The girl shoveled the cereal she had into her
mouth quickly. The girl perplexed her for two reasons.
One being that how could she eat so much and look so small? The other
being, what the HELL was doing in her kitchen?
"Who are you?", Rei asked suddenly irratated with her. The girl looked
at her with her round eyes and her long lashes fluttered. Could this
girl be any prettier? Her lips formed into a coy smile.
"Usagi. Usagi Tsukino", She answered and then went back to eating.
And why was she here again? Mamoru walked into the kitchen and nodding
to her and Usagi sat down to eat.
Was she MISSING something here?
"Um...can someone explain something to me?", She asked and they looked
up to her. "Why is SHE here?" Pointing to Usagi and feeling confused.
She didn't want this person here, eating what was supposed to be HER
cereal in HER house with HER brother.
"You know what? I'll get you some milk", Usagi said and stood up. Rei
almost choked, the girl was PREGNANT. Really pregnant.
Now she got it.
"Simple, Usagi lives here", Mamoru explained and went back to his
cereal. Good reason. The whole baby thing must have slipped his mind.
"And how did THIS happen?!", Rei asked loudly nodding her head at
Usagi who stood by the fridge holding the milk and grinning at Mamoru
with a "Boy do you need help" look.
"Rei, lemme explain something", Usagi said. With her index finger in
pointing position and her other index finger and thumb creating a
circle she came to introduce Rei to a few "facts". "This is a man"
She showed the index finger to the young girl. "This is a woman" She
showed the circle. "Sometimes this happens" In a quick movement Usagi
began to reveal the "circle of life" in one small, dirty gesture when
Mamoru stopped her.
"USAGI!", Mamoru yelled and grabbed her wrist. Without another word
she put her hands down. "I think she gets it"
"Are you two going to get married?", She asked.
"Nope", They both said in agreement.
"Are you two involved?"
"Nope"
"Are you in love with each other?"
"Nope"
"Do you two even like each other?", She asked weakly with a light-head
feeling coming to her. She couldn't believe this was happening. "You
can't be more than eighteen"
"Actually I'm sixteen", Usagi said lightly and sat back down.
"So you're younger than me?", Rei said in disbelief.
"Yup", Usagi said and got up again. "Anyone want pancakes?"
And so began her first breakfast with her new "family".
************************************************************************
"So when is the baby coming?", Rei inquired as her and Usagi walked
through the park. She had to admit the more she explored Tokyo the
more she loved it. After Mamoru left Usagi brought her sightseeing
in order to help regain what was left of her sanity.
"Two weeks", She replied. "Right in time Auntie Rei" Auntie?
"How did this happen?", Rei asked. "And no gestures please" Usagi
laughed and they sat down.
"There is a time and place for everything my dear and when you're
ready to hear it I'll tell you", Usagi said to her and Rei couldn't
believed the calmness of Usagi. In her blue eyes and behind her
youthful face she saw a maturity way beyond her years. "Now is not
the time, you're just getting use to your life here" Rei felt a
comfort and an affection toward Usagi who had been the nicest to
her since she got there unlike her mute of a brother.
"Are you in love with my brother?", She questioned. Usagi stiffened
, thought for a moment and then looked at her.
"No, your brother can't handle that kind of thing and neither can I",
She said in an even tone. "Your brother and I are the least likely
canidates to fall in love with each other"
"Than how did THAT happen?"
"Just another thing you'll have to learn", Usagi answered leaving a
perplexed Rei sitting on the bench to figure the mystery that was her
family.
**********************************************************************
"Mamoru, you'll have to tell her sooner or later", Usagi said later
that night as the two sat in their bed. "You decided to bring her
here for a better life but she needs YOU in her life not some landlord"
Usagi took his hand affectionately and entwined it in hers. "You need
her just like she needs you" He turned to look at her with his dark
eyes and handsome face. Usagi felt something stirred in her but didn't
give much notice. Indigestion.
"Usa, sometimes you're too optimistic for your own good", Mamoru
reprimanded her but a small smile peeked from his face.
"And that's why you keep me around here", She answered back and with
a jaunty smile laid to go to sleep. In moments the young girl was
passed out.
"That's not the only reason", Mamoru said to himself as he covered
her with another blanket.
