Love is... for the first time... -Sung by Kenny Loggins For The First Time (Part Seven) By: JLaLa (jlynpinay@aol.com) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The door of the Tsukino household closed with a loud bang and a rush of footsteps. Walking into the front hallway Ikuko only saw the glimmer of blond hair rushing into a room followed by another slam of a door. "What happened?", She asked Shingo who had just entered the hallway and stood alongside with her as they looked upstairs. "She's crying", Shingo told her with a serious look on his face. Ikuko slowly walked up to the door where a small bunny sign hung. She smiled ruefully thinking of the days when Usagi was young and NOT in love. Knocking on the door she walked in to see that Usagi lying face down on her bed and she heard the muffled sobs. Closing the door behind her she sat next to Usagi and rubbed her back consolingly. "Baby, are you okay?", Ikuko inquired gently. "I'm not a baby", Usagi said through her tears. "Why does everyone think of me as a child?" She sat up and her mother felt her heart ache seeing Usagi in such a state. Her eyes were red and bloodshot and her hair dishelvled. What hurt Ikuko most of all was to see the pain in her daughter's eyes. Taking the apron she wore Ikuko wiped her daughter's face and touched her cheek. "I'm sorry Usagi, it's just hard to see that my daughter is so grown up", Ikuko said. "She's encountering what might be the most true love of her life and her most painful heartbreak" "But mama, I didn't even tell you about-" She stopped and looked down shyly. "Now Usa, did you think I didn't know what was going?", Ikuko asked with a smile. "I may not say anything but I'm not blind to see that you are in love and who you are in love with" She pushed her daughter's hair back and gazed at the innocent face who looked at her. Usagi was still such a child and at the same time a beautiful woman. "Have you told him?" "No", She said shaking her head slowly. "Because to him I am just...a child" Her eyes filled with tears again and this time before they fell Ikuko took her daughter's face in her hands. "Than you tell him to look into your eyes and this time REALLY look", She told her. "Because I don't see a child in there, in your eyes I see a young woman with such wiseness beyond anything and a heart just as big" Ikuko kissed her on the forehead and Usagi's face was dry of tears now. "I am proud of what you become" "Thank you", Usagi said to her mother looking up at her. "I'm glad you see that in me" "Soon he'll see it too" ********************************************************************** Stepping into the room Toshiro glanced at his son who stood stiffly looking out the window. Kyoko sat on the floor of course near her brother playing with a few toys but mostly chewing on them. "Mamoru?", Toshiro said and his son turned giving him a small, sad smile. "How are you feeling?" "I could be better", Mamoru responded with a bitter laugh. "On the other hand I could be worse" His smile faded. "Nope it couldn't be any worse" "Mamoru, why can't you just talk to Usagi?", He asked his son. "She can't hate you that much" Mamoru looked up in surprise. "How'd you know it was Usagi?", Mamoru said. "Now did you think me and your mother were utter morons?", Toshiro said with a smile. "I mean Mamoru it was pretty OBVIOUS the way you looked at her and Ikuko knew long before us so did Shingo and even Kenji knew and that's why he went ballistic when he saw you and Usagi-" "Dad I get the point", Mamoru said stopping his father. "I called her a child and all I can think is she isn't a child anymore and that's what bothers me. I don't see her like that anymore" "Do you love her?", His father asked suddenly and Mamoru stopped short. But he looked up at his father and in his eyes Toshiro saw certainty, a beautiful light that radiate from him as a smile came to his lips. "Yeah I do", He said quietly. "But I was stupid to hope..." "It is NEVER stupid to hope for someone to love you", Toshiro told his son and put a hand on his shoulder. "I've never seen anyone look at someone like you look at Usagi" "But if I told her, would she love me?", Mamoru asked and gazed up at his dad's eyes. When he was young he would run to his dad at any small minor problem but now the problems weren't so small but he still needed his father. It had been a long time snce he felt like that. "How could she help it?", Toshiro told him and Mamoru couldn't help but laugh. "Afterall you take after ME" That only made him laugh harder. "Thanks dad, I really needed the laugh", Mamoru joked. "HEY! That wasn't a joke!", Toshiro protested but then melted into laughter. Mamoru checked his watch and got up. "I gotta go", Mamoru said but stopped at the doorway of the living room. "Dad, thanks for the advice" He smiled at him warmly. "Anytime kiddo", Toshiro said and Mamoru left with the shut of the front door. Toshiro walked back into the living room where Kyoko was playing and sat her on his lap. How old he was getting but when he looked at her, he felt a little bit of his young self come out. That's how he felt when he saw both his kids. "Kyoko, do daddy a favor?" "Yes daddy", Kyoko said her eyes big and bright. She gave him a pearly smile. "Don't date until you're thirty!" ********************************************************************** "Mama, I don't know why I have to go!", Usagi protested as they walked up the driveway to the Chiba house. Maeko and Ikuko had formulated a way to see that children talked. Everyone agreed that they were SICK and TIRED of hearing Mamoru this or Usagi that from either one of their children. They were gonna get those two to talk if it KILLED them. They did had one thing though. The ability to make their kids do ANYTHING they wanted. Yes, every mother has this power mind you. The power to make their kids do whatever their motherly hearts desire. If it's by giving *THAT* look or merely threatning to take something away or just do something like pinching their ears. Whatever they did Usagi and Mamoru were both there whether they wanted to or not. So that's how she ended up here. Usagi's heart began to pound and she tightened her grip on the plate of food she held. Her thoughts were interupted when Maeko opened the door. "Hey everyone!", She greeted them cheerfully and gave a small wink to Ikuko. Usagi walked in tenatively and put the food in the dining room. Sitting in the living room she was greeted by Kyoko who happily set herself on Usagi's lap. "Hey Kyoko, what are you wearing there?", She asked pointing to the crown and tutu that was the young girl's outfit. "I'm a ballerina princess", She said and hopped off to do a dance around the room. Usagi chuckled but stopped when she saw Mamoru was there. Her smile faded and she stood up to leave so that he wouldn't see her tears. Mamoru watched her get up to leave and followed into the dining room carrying Kyoko in his arms. Everyone was already seated and as Mamoru joined they all began to eat when all of sudden after a moment of silence Maeko dropped her fork. It landed with a clang on her plate. "That's it. BOTH of you need to talk out your problem", She said. "Maeko, this isn't your problem-", Toshiro said. "Excuse me but can I say something?", Usagi said and stood up from her chair. Mamoru looked up at her, his heart was pounding a mile a minute. "Go ahead baby", Ikuko urged. "Mamoru, I understand that I'm a not as mature and as smart as you", She said chokingly as her eyes met his. "But you have no right to call me a child because look at me, I'm not that child that left here years ago" The tears fell from eyes streaking her lovely face. "Shame on me for falling in love with someone who could never look in my eyes and see something else other than a silly kid who followed him" Her hands were clenched so tightly they were snow white. "If that's all you've ever thought of me than I don't want to talk to you or see you anymore" His own eyes began to burn. "Not ever" With that she walked quickly from the room, slamming the door behind her. Everyone sat in silence. Mamoru who eyes were brimmed with tears sat in a stupor until Kenji broke the silence. "Well go after her!", He said but it was too late. Mamoru was already out the door. ********************************************************************** "USAGI!", Mamoru shouted out into the cold night air. Looking around his front yard he spied a small figure sitting in a bench at the end of his front yard. Slowly he walked up to her and looked at her with his hands in his pockets. "Hey" His voice was quiet. "What do you want?", She asked with edge in her voice. "Are you gonna yell at me again?" "No, I came out here to apologize...for being a jerk", He said and she looked up in surprise. "Usagi I was angry because of that guy and I was mad at the way he was touching you and holding you" "Why?", She asked looking at him, her eyes softened. "Because...because all this time Usagi you were just this friend of mine! This sister who I'd play with and throw dirt at! I always thought it be like that" His face fell. "Then you left and it was never okay again but I always knew that whenever you came back our friendship would always be the same" His face grew serious as he gazed in her sweet blue eyes and Usagi swallowed the lump in her throat. "But you came back and it wasn't the same" The light in her eyes faded. "I looked at you and you were beautiful and smart and sweet and you just stopped...being a sister" He knelt near her. "I'd look in your eyes and just be afraid because I didn't know if you would let me love you, much less let me fall in love with you" There was silence. "Mamoru, you kissed me once when I was asleep", Usagi said after a moment and looked at him. "Kiss me again" "What?", He asked in disbelief. "Kiss me", She whispered. "For the first time" He sat next to her and lifted her chin. Their lips met in a crushing kiss and Usagi felt herself grow weak, intoxicated to be near him. They drew apart gasping for breath. Their faces were only inches apart as their eyes remained on each other. "I'm in love with you Mamo-chan" Suddenly a rain of white began to fall and they stood in amazement. "It's snowing" "Good, I wanna be able to take my girlfriend ice skating", He said and she turned to look at him. He grinned at her. "Your what?", She asked him. "My girlfriend", Mamoru said lovingly and took her hand. Ikuko, Maeko, Kenji, Toshiro, Shingo and Kyoko who was squashed at the bottom watched from a window at the beautiful sight before them. "We better go inside", Usagi said and led him to the front door. "Usako?", He called and she turned around smiling at him. Snow flakes on her hair and her eyes bright among the white. She was never so beautiful. "I love you" Wrapping her arms around his neck she kissed him square on the lips. "I know", She said with a smile and led him inside. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The end! Hope everyone liked it! Ja!
