HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME(Part 6)

"What's wrong with me?!",Mamoru yelled at Ami.Tears of confusion ran 
down both their faces.Ami stood in front of him,head down in shame.She
felt absurd for trying to hide tears he couldn't even see.It was almost 
definite about what had happened to him.Mamoru struggled to calm 
himself but the darkness that surrounded him filled him with
fear.What was happening to him scared him more than any monster he
had ever fought."AMI,GODDAMN IT!TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG-"
"I DON'T KNOW!",Ami screamed back and collapsed to the floor crying.
She had scanned him moments ago and found that the poison was running 
to his veins,pulsing to every part of his body.Perhaps making it 
permanent.She had to get it together though."Mamoru,calm down.We 
wouldn't want to wake Usagi,would we?"
"Usako...",he breathed and tears filled his eyes again.His wife.His 
beautiful,fragile wife.What kind of mess had he gotten himself into?
How could he protect her now?The feeling of failure weighed down on 
him.
"I'll be quiet" He looked up."So you're certain I'm..." He couldn't
say that word just yet.
"No,we can still try",Ami said quietly when the door opened and Rei
entered breezily.She smiled widely at Mamoru not noticing the 
tearstains on his cheeks.
"You're awake!",Rei said and opened the curtains letting some air in.
"Makoto's cooked up a storm in there!I hope you don't mind Mamoru
but we're all starving and-" She stopped in her tracks and looked
at Ami who was gazing solemnly at her hands."What's wrong?" Her lit
up face toned down and Rei looked at Mamoru,whose blank eyes couldn't
meet her gaze.
"Mamoru tell me.What is Rei wearing?",Ami questioned and Rei looked 
at her surprised.'What's going on?Why is Ami doing this?' Suddenly Rei
pieced it together and glanced at Ami who nodded telling her what she
thought may be true.
"Oh my God" Putting a hand on her mouth to keep her sobs in,Rei stood
straight reassuring herself things were alright.He would know what she 
was wearing.
"Now try",Ami said.Mamoru squinted and concentrated in getting an image
of Rei.Darkness.'Come on.You can do this'He tried opening and closing 
his eyes.Rubbing them trying to clear them up.In desperation he even 
tried cleaning them out by rubbing his tears into them.He had to try.
He had to see.He just had to....

Rei closed the door and led Ami to the living room.Ami's eyes were
deeply distressed,tired and Rei comfortingly put an arm around her 
friend.Mamoru was asleep,exhausted from his efforts.He had willpower
but she had seen it fading as his attempts failed.She could feel in
within her.The sense of trouble over the horizon.Rei heard Ami 
whimper and quickly stopped her by grabbing her shoulders and 
shaking them.
"Ami calm down!",she hissed but stopped when she saw how shaken Ami
was.She knew Ami blamed herself for this happening.It was foolish
to think that she could find a cure to destroy this unknown poison.
"It was not your fault,alright?We don't know what kind of thing this
is yet.It's better that you didn't do anything,for all you know if you
tried you might have made it worse or something.You're strong Ami.Show
that you are.This is exactly what Nephrus wants us to do.Panic.If we do,
he'll win.You just have to keep trying until you do find a cure for 
this.Don't cry now,cry when we win this fight and cure Mamoru" Ami
looked up at Rei's strong eyes and within she felt her strength 
building.
She nodded."Yes Rei.We'll fight.We'll win.We'll cure our friend"
Ami smoothed her clothing out and took a shaky breath.She sure did hate
being the bearer of bad news though.They entered the room and when Ami
looked at Greg she knew that he knew also.He could feel her thoughts
and feelings.Without a word he walked to her and embraced her.In his
arms for awhile Ami was at peace,it would be short.Rei stood at hall
doorway.Her eyes were firm but at same time soft from the tears she 
had quietly cried.The others were quick to notice and quieted 
themselves.
"How's Usagi?",Rei asked.
"Fine.Just a bump but she may be out for awhile",Minako said happy
that Usagi was quickly healing."How's Mamoru?" Rei's breath caught 
inside of her and she took hold of the side of the doorway to support 
herself.She couldn't get the words out.God it was hard.
"Not so good",she said choked and bit her lip.Everyone watched as Rei
brashly wiped her face."You see,Mamoru's...he's-blind" 
"Are you sure?",Makoto asked and got up to hug Rei.
"We tried",Ami said and broke into tears on Greg's shoulder.She 
promised herself you wouldn't cry.To hell with promises.
"There has to be a way to reverse it",Mirichu said indignantly."Our 
Prince needs us.We have to find a cure" Haruka's eyes were darkened
by the news and she took Mirichu's hand,squeezing it hard.
"My brothers and I will help Ami out",Taiki said and the other two 
nodded.Seiya sat quietly distracted by one thought.Usagi.How would
she react to it?And Mamoru,he wasn't fond of the guy but Nephrus
went too far.
"Well we have to consider him lucky",Ami said suddenly."If Usagi 
didn't make him transform,the poison would have killed him" 
"Who's going to tell the Princess?",Setsuna inquired and immediatly 
it was quiet.Everyone thought of their happy,go-lucky friend who 
didn't even want to fight in the first place.They looked at one 
another in despair.
"I will",Rei said breaking the tension in the air."Usa's my
best friend" She took in a ragged breath and Minako went to her.She
looked into Rei's dark eyes and Minako saw how hard it would be to 
bring such news.Her own eyes filled thinking of Usagi.She didn't 
deserve this.
"I'll come with you",Minako said gently and took her friend's hand.
"Should we wake her?"
Rei shook her head."No.Tonight let her have good dreams"

The morning sun rose and made the sky a hazy orange.Minako awoke and 
rubbing her eyes looked around at the Senshi sprawled on the floor.
The Lights all sat asleep on dining room chairs,their heads thrown
back.Yaten snored lightly and Minako got up.Taking her blanket she 
wrapped it on him and put a pillow under his head.She put some more 
blankets around the other Senshi and realized that Rei was gone.
Walking into Usagi's room,there sat Rei asleep in a cushioned
chair.Her hand had tight hold on Usagi's.Minako sighed and smoothed
Rei's hair.How would they get through this?She knew that she was
strong.If she would have a nervous breakdown....that was another
story.Sunlight streamed through the windows and Minako looked at the 
morning sun she said a silent prayer.'Dear God',she thought.'Help us.
Help me....'

Usagi groggily looked around and finally her eyes focused upon Rei
who was flipping through a magazine aimlessly.Her head felt so heavy.
"Aren't you a little too old to be reading SEVENTEEN?",Usagi asked and
Rei dropped the magazine quickly on her lap.Usagi laughed but stopped
when a sharp pain overtook her.
"Well this is the only decent reading material you have",Rei argured
but smother a giggle.Even in pain Usa still managed to crack a joke.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah just peachy",Usagi responded and groaned."Where's everyone?"
"Out to eat",Rei answered when Mina entered holding a cup of coffee.
"Hey girl!",Minako said perkily though it was a horrible cover up.She 
hoped she was as good in acting as she thought.Usagi grinned from 
where she laid but continued to grill Rei.
"So who went?",she asked and Rei shifted in her seat.Rei knew exactly 
what Usagi was doing.She was trying to find out about Mamoru.Minako
flashed her a panicked look.All of sudden the words they were trying
to say were gone.Usagi noticed the tension and stopped in the middle
of her rambling.Her face took on a serious look and she sat up,putting
her hands on her lap."What's wrong?Spit it out"
"It's about Mamoru",Rei began and Usagi put a hand to her mouth.
"Now listen to me Usa.He's not dead but something happened.There
was poison on that knife.Enough to kill all of us but when Mamoru
turned into Endymion his defenses were stronger.You saved his life"
"I did what I had to do",Usagi said getting impatient."Now tell me
what happened to Mamo-chan"
"Usagi we tried.We really tried but there was nothing we could 
do",Minako explained with a choked voice and took Usagi's hands."Ami 
ran tests and scanned him.Taiki and his brothers poured over books this 
whole day but it was a dead end"
"YOU GUYS!PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND!",Usagi 
yelled frightened about what they were going to say.
"He can't see Usa",Rei said and looked at Usagi who was suddenly quiet.
Her eyes were blank but Rei could see that she was biting her lip so
hard it could draw blood."He's blind" Usagi stared at her silent for
a moment but suddenly she began to yelled and sobbed at the same time.
"YOU'RE LYING!YOU'RE LYING REI!HE CAN'T BE!HE'S NOT..." Minako ran
to Usagi and hugged her.She cried loudly thinking it was her
fault.She should have been stabbed,not him.If she only watched what
she was doing.Usagi loved him nonetheless.Blind or not.She needed him.
Quickly Usagi pushed Minako away and ran from the room.Rei looked
at her friend who had slow tears running down her face.She knew
that from now on everything changed.

Mamoru sat up in his bed when he heard a creak from the door
opening.He had been awaken by the sounds of an argument.What had 
happened?Mamoru thought of Usagi who he couldn't take care of.He had
failed her.The thought made him angry and he clenched his fists.
"Mamo-chan",a soft voice said.Usako.He could feel her soft breath
near his face and her delicate hand caressed his face.He was unable to
see the small diamond-like tears that fell from her face.He couldn't 
do this.Quickly Mamoru pushed her hand away.
"Don't pity me,Usagi",Mamoru said bitterly and he heard her step back.
This was the first time he had not called her by his petname."Go away 
please"
"No,I am your wife and blind or not nothing has changed-",Usagi 
reassured him.
"DON'T YOU SEE!",he interupted loudly."THINGS HAVE CHANGED!NO MATTER 
WHAT YOU SAY THEY HAVE!" Mamoru cringed at his harshness.He was once
again pushing everyone away.'It's better this way.She'll be with 
people who can take care of her and eventually she'll find someone who can 
protect her like I can't' The thought however of being away from her 
gave him a undescriable pain.Like the slow thrust of a knife in his 
heart.This was for her own good though.It was not right to be with 
someone who couldn't even save his own life,let alone hers.
"Mamo-chan,no matter what you say to me you know I don't pity you",she
said though another voice nagged her insides.'You've brought
this on yourself.If you just watched what you were doing,you would've
seen Nephrus.He's blind because of you' Usagi covered her ears and 
squeezed her eyes shut trying not to hear the inner voice that taunted 
her.She leaned against the door and tried to stop them. 
"Just do yourself a favor and leave",Mamoru commanded,his teeth 
gritting together.He squeezed his blanket tightly and lowered his head.
'She doesn't need another person to be burdened with,she has enough to 
worry about.Mamoru,do this for her own good.If you truly love her...' 
His conscience overruled his heart.
"Please let's just talk about this-",she pleaded.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Angry and frustrated he grabbed the first thing he 
could feel and hurled it against the wall.The lamp shattered against 
the door and he prayed to God he didn't hurt her.Usagi screamed out of 
fright,but was unharmed."DON'T YOU GET IT?I DON'T WANT YOU IN HERE!
I DON'T WANT YOUR PITY!"
"Mamo-chan I love you",was her only response.Usagi walked to him and 
held his hand in pure devotion.Mamoru felt his own eyes welling up.
"Don't you see,Usagi?Everything is different now",he said in a 
sorrowful voice."I can't stay with you but this time it's not because 
of some dream or anything.It's out of my own freewill"
"Well it's not just a one day procedure.We are married and we promised
to be with one another till death do us part-",she argued.
"TO ME BEING BLIND IS LIKE DEATH!" He would never see her smile or her 
lovely eyes.Even her odangos.He would never see any of it again.
Mamoru could not bear the thought."Please Usagi if you love me,leave" 
"Okay I'll leave",she said quietly though inside she was being shred 
to pieces.He was really ending it.She got up but stopped suddenly."One
last time,can you please call me Usako?" His head shot up and she 
knelt next to the bed.
"If I do will you leave?",he asked.
"Yes",she agreed and another set of tears rolled down her face.
He took a deep breath and for a moment he looked at Usagi as if he 
could see her.
"Usako",Mamoru whispered huskily.He look down to cover the tears
that threatened to fall.Slowly she got up quietly.Usagi walked to
the door and quietly closed the door behind her.She could not say
goodbye.It was just too final.

As Usagi closed the door,she leaned against it and without a word
sank to the ground sobbing.This was not her usual high-pitched cries 
but deep sorrowful sobs.Her insides felt empty and bare.Her heart was 
broken,shattered and ripped apart.She drew her knees up and hugged her
legs.Laying her head on her knees she unaware that Minako and Rei had
walked into the hallway.They watched their friend suffer by herself
and Minako ran to her.She drew her friend into a hug but Usagi pushed 
her away.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!",Usagi yelled.In her head she heard Mamoru say those 
exact words to her.Minako looked at Rei in surprise and the two knew 
that Usagi would never be the same.

Mamoru locked the door to his room,in a way there was something so 
final to it.He had somehow walked to the door and was now leaning
against it.Pushing his hair back,he sighed heavily.Inside an agony 
filled pain was overtaking his heart.Slowly Mamoru lowered himself to 
the floor and started to sobbed quietly to himself,unaware that at 
the moment Usagi was on the other side doing the exact same thing.

The sounds of laughing and chatter stopped suddenly when everyone was 
greeted by the darkness of the apartment.Rei and Minako sat on the 
couch,their eyes tired and barren.Both looked up wearily when they saw
that the others have arrived.Haruka went to check on Usagi but was 
shocked to see Usagi leaning against Mamoru's door.Her eyes were 
lifeless and when she saw Haruka she turned her head away.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING?",Haruka yelled as she walked into the living 
room.Yaten was comforting Minako while the others sat around Rei who
was tightly gripping her coffee cup.She looked up at Haruka and her 
eyes were hard but haggard.She stood up shakily and placed her cup on 
the table.
"I'm sorry",she said in hoarse whisper."But things have taken a turn 
for the worse"
