The Plot: The plot for this story is about a bunch of students trying to get by. There is a mystery about the duels in the forest arena..and what is it with this new girl that the teachers are going crazy over? these are just a fe of the mysterious to be discovered.
The Academy is the setting for this story, a school that is run strictly on tradition and funded by the government. Most of the men and women who come out of this school go on to live very productive lives. The only fall back is, if the country ever went to war all current and graduated students are required to fight. A war hasn't broken out yet so most views these laws as a way to keep slackers out.
The Dean of Students, a council of instructors and a council of students run the school. The Dean has knowledge in both fighting and magic and could probably take down any student at the Academy (despite her old haggard appearance) The council of instructors is made up of the department heads of both sides of the Academy. The Academic instructors are not required to serve, but they are allowed to attend the meetings and give their advice.
The Student Council is split into two parts. The Magic Students Council deals with all the problems on the magic side of the Academy. While the Fight Student Council deals with the fighters side. If an Academic Student has a problem he/she is allowed to choose which student council to approach. The Student Council deals with all student affairs and is elected in. The President is decided in different ways.
On the fighter’s side, a fight between the current President and the challenger occurs. The current President chooses the fighting style. To keep he fight fair other council members are witnesses and the fights are held in the Arena. On the Magic side, the fighter’s council and a group of teachers judge the current President and the challenger's best display of magic. The instructors choose the category.
The Academy has been open for almost 80 years and the campus doesn't look it. All the buildings are repaired, if needed, at the end of the school term. All rooms are re-furnished at the end of the fifth year. The old furnishings are given away. The school's crest, a rose, is put on every textbook, practice weapon, uniform, and anything else. A large crest is seen on the clock tower in the center of the courtyard.
The layout of the Academy is as followed: Two large buildings divide the courtyard. On the left are the magic user classroom, laboratories and dorms; while on the right is the fighters’ classroom, practice areas and dorms. There in a building across the courtyard which holds all the Academic classes and the clock tower, with a large school crest above the center of the double doors that lead into the building.
While the magic users are not allowed into the fighter's area and vice versa, there will be a mixture in the Academics part of the Academy. Students are not allowed to graduate with out first completing their Academics. In the center of the courtyard is a small gazebo, which has been made into a flower garden of roses. Behind the Academics building is an outdoor gym, track, and small sparing area. This area is a magic dead area and both magic users and fighters are allowed to fight here.
Most of the time a sparing match between a black magic user and a blue fighter is happening *Will be explained later* or two of the high-class fighters are showing off. Beyond the track and gym is a very thick forest surrounded by a stone wall. This is the Fighter's Arena and nobody but fighter student council members are allowed to enter.
The cafeteria *Don’t Eat There* is located about 1/2 a mile away form the Academic building. There are three other eating places spread across the campus, only difference is the food at the cafeteria is free, the food elsewhere isn't. In the center of the courtyard is a green house where roses are grown. This green house is a magic dead area and weapons are to be left outside. Anyone is allowed to enter but it is a place of peace.
There are two other schools in this town. The Bardic College and the University Unlike the Academy though, both schools require a fee to attend. The students of the University and the Academy have been fighting now for almost 20 years. It use to be they would leave each other alone, but the University started to lower its standards and graduate more students, putting the Academy in jeopardy of loosing its funding.
One-night fighters and magic users from the Academy challenged some University students. The end result was death on the sides and the destruction of three university buildings. Those that survived were expelled. Ever since the Academy and the University have been at war, with the Bardic College caught in the middle. The Bardic College is located in the center of the town and is known as a party school. They have great taverns and wonderful women.
Rumor has it that the Bardic instructors wish to learn how to intertwine music with magic. The Academy and the University agree that this could be dangerous since music can be unpredictable at times. So the request to combine the College with one of the other schools was denied.
There are 10 bells in one day, each one letting the instructors know its time to let the students go. In the morning the students have Academics. After lunch is time for rest and secondary classes. This is fighting classes for defense for the magic users and secondary or etiquette classes for the fighters. After dinner is when the Primary classes are taught, the final bell of the day rings at 10 p.m. Most students are already in their rooms at this time and this is when all doors are locked.
Every student is required to wear a clean uniform at all times. Each class has a different color scheme for their uniforms. The Magic users wear white while the fighters wear green and the Academics wear brown on their uniform. The sashes start which level in school they are in. Light blue is a freshman, white is a sophomore, black is junior and red is a senior. There is a medallion placed somewhere on the sash according to the style of uniform he person wears. This medallion tells the fighting style or the magic style of the person wearing it.
There are four styles of uniforms. The girls are a knee length black skirt with tunic matching their appropriate class. The sash is worn around the waist with the medallion pining it in the center. A black vest with the rose crest is also worn. The boy's uniform is black pants with a strip down the side matching their class. The tunic is also the color of their class with a rose crest over the heart. The sash can be worn either around the wait with the medallion in the middle or over the shoulder and the medallion at the waist.
The ceremonial uniform is only worn during an important gathering. It is a roe with the class color that goes to the floor. The sash is worn around the wait and a rose crest over the heart. There is a hood attached to this and is normally worn up when in ceremony. The final uniform is worn by Academic students only. It’s a soft brown tunic with badge riding pants and boots. Their sash must be worn across the chest and over the shoulder. They were a rose crest pendent to clasp the sash.
Only when the students are off campus may they wear something other than a standard uniforms. Pins, ribbons and medallions awarded by teachers, decorate upper class uniforms. The magic users are divided into three classes. White magic, dealing with life, red magic, dealing with summoning of various densities, and black magic, dealing with the elements and darkness.
