In Mexico, churros or crullers are often made in one continuous piece and cut into 3 inch lengths when done. They are traditionally served with hot Mexican chocolate.

Mexican Churros or Crullers - Easy Mexican Recipe For Mexican Dessert

  • Enough oil for deep frying
  • Sugar for coating
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 lime (quatered)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt

How to Make Churros or Crullers:

  • Heat the oil in a deep-fryer, add the lime quarters
  • Boil water in another saucepan
  • Add salt, sugar, flour all at once and begin to beat with a whisk or spoon
  • Beat till smooth then removed from heat
  • Beat in egg and continue to beat till batter becomes smooth and shiny
  • Remove lime from oil
  • Pack batter into a pastry tube (with star shape) and force the strips into hot oil a few at a time
  • Remove and drain on paper towel
  • Sprinkle with or roll in sugar

If prefer, you may add ground cinnamon to the sugar.
