Last Sunrise
Dawn approached upon the shores of Long Beach. Already the first streaks of red and gold slowly flowed through out the midnight blue sky. The slowly paling sky spread its delicate fingers across the dark blue clouds, its touch igniting the warm fires of the day. The fury of the waves crashed onto the shoreline, raging at the unyielding earth. A lone figure stood on the beach, like a condemned man awaiting his execution.
The young man ignored the sound
of the waking ocean, of the crying seagulls, of the crashing waves. His silky
black hair, tied back in a loose ponytail, was blown about by the bitter sea
winds. Dark green eyes stared hopefully at the brightening horizon. As the sun
approached, he could feel the inevitable burning of his pale skin but he
ignored it. He watched with longing and delight as the sky change colors. Tears
of blood rolled down his cheeks as he saw the long awaited colors of crimson
red, brightening yellow, and finally, of sky blue. Ignoring all of his
instincts which told him to seek shelter, to stop the increasing pain, he
smiled as he saw the sun come over the horizon, the glorious sun….
