Ayumi started out as a commercial model in 1994, soon to make her primetime debut in a TV movie in 1995. Her career as an on screen beauty rose over the years (while still in High School !!) as she began playing different roles.
In 1997, Ayumi enrolled herself into vocal and dancing courses. She wanted to make a statement to the public by presenting her feelings through music. In April 1998, her first single, "Poker Face", made it's debut and climbed up to the top 20.
