Well, if I had to pick a Sailormoon character who's the polar opposite of me, it would have to be Ami (known as Amy in the dub). Ami is studious, motivated and extremely intelligent (supposedly a 300 IQ, according to the anime!). She attends cram school after school so that she can get into a prestigious high school; although it sounds weird to American kids, it's really not, since many ambitious Japanese kids in real life attend cram schools too. Although she's been called "the smart senshi", that's not really fair, since all the senshi are smart. Ami is just better-read and possesses a mathematical mind. Ami is also, incidentally, the most popular of the Sailormoon characters in Japan, although many US fans think of her as "weak" (not me, though--we all have our strong points and Ami's just happens to be strategy). As Sailormercury, Ami possesses some unique special items--her mini-computer, which she uses to process data concerning the enemy, and her VR Visor, which she can use to see things the others can't. Sailormercury's powers are over water in its various forms, such as bubbles and ice. Offensively, she's not very strong, but she can use her powers to stun enemies long enough for the other senshi to finish them off, and is also a brilliant strategist. (One episode of Sailor Stars illustrated this perfectly; Mercury wouldn't fight the illusion of Neherenia because she was busy calculating how to destroy it. Uranus, who was the only other senshi with her, became aggravated and accused Mercury of not being a true fighter. However, Mercury finished her calculations and told Uranus exactly where to aim her attack, and the illusion was destroyed. Uranus was stunned and admitted afterward that although their fighting styles were very different, they were both real fighters.) |
