In the manga she pretends that she is the princess so that the enemy won't find Usagi. She trains Usagi with her video game and kills Queen Beyrl with her Stone Sword.
In the anime Usagi is totally floored when they meet because she is talking to a celebrity. They think Venus is the princess but never really say it. Through out the series she is good friends with Makoto and is a little boy crazy. All the episodes about her are hilarious and she is the first to figure out most of the problems.
