Moon mage guild meeting Log - 8/16/98

Caymus says, "Greetings all and welcome. For those who haven't met me yet, I'm your new guild guru, Caymus."
Caymus says, "I realize it's been a very long time since we've had a meeting."
Caymus says, "I'm afraid I was very pressed to find time for this one, but I felt is was important."
Caymus says, "Before I speak, I'm going to turn the meeting over to Council Member Thorrick."Caymus says, "He comes to us with the decision the Moon Mage Council has made regarding the recent events."

...

>You see Council Member Thorrick Tamim, a S'Kra Mur Moon Mage
He has slitted brown eyes and green-brown scales.
He is archaic for a S'Kra Mur.
He is in good shape.

He is holding a set of prediction cards painted with images of the World Dragon hatching in his right hand and an intricately carved ivory staff in his left.
He is wearing a delicate silver circlet inscribed with cryptic runes, a silver chain hung with the symbol of the Lunar Accord, some midnight-black robes with silver threading, a tailband set with a softly glowing moonstone and some black sandals.

Thorrick says, "Thanks you Caymus."
Thorrick says, "Greetings, I am Thorrick of the Moon Mage Council which governs our guild."
Thorrick says, "I come bearing the decisions of the Council."
Thorrick says, "I have been visiting the local areas in various guises for several months now."
Thorrick says, "And I have observed some very remarkable changes in my discussions with many of you in the past week. You give me hope."
Thorrick says, "I have also heard that the disruption of Moon Gate was regarded as a response to a single incident."
Thorrick says, "Let me tell you of my observations."
Thorrick says, "I have seen guild members casting Rogue Gates for no other purpose than disruption or thoughtlessly, with complete disregard for those who might be in the area..."
Thorrick says, "Burn being cast on citizens over harsh words..."
Thorrick says, "Mental Blast used to commit petty theft or to silence the thoughts of those the caster disagrees with..."
Thorrick says, "Refractive Field employed in making escapes from theft, for theft itself, as well as simple voyeurism and invasion of privacy..."
Thorrick says, "The list goes on with abuses of nearly every spell in the guild's repetoire."
Thorrick says, "Attacks, invasions of privacy, generally being a nuisance, and outright harassment for the most trivial reasons."
Thorrick says, "We will be returning Moon Gate, and you can thank those about you that bothered to come forth and speak."
Thorrick says, "Those that actually heard the true message we were sending."
Thorrick says, "That you will be held accountable for your actions, you will use your powers with some amount of responsibility, or you will lose them."
Thorrick says, "But..."
Thorrick says, "We have further decided, other measures must be taken.
Thorrick says, "Within a week, we will be increasing your training requirements."
Thorrick says, "We have observed far too many guild members racing through the required studies to be awarded powers they had no temperament to handle."
Thorrick says, "Secondly, the guildleaders will be authorized to handle individual cases of abuse."
Thorrick says, "Punishments will vary from limitations on magical abilities to complete loss of magic abilities to banishment from the guild for a time."
Thorrick says, "Thirdly, we will be giving you the authority to remove disruptive elements from the guild."
Thorrick says, "Lastly, we will be placing suggestion boxes within the guilds so that you may share ideas with the Council more easily."
Thorrick says, "We expect these abilities to be handled responsibly or they will be removed on an individual basis."
Thorrick says, "We realize not everyone has access to the guild missives, thus we will post scrolls in the guild halls to notify you of the changes as they occur."
Thorrick says, "I will remain to answer questions afterward."
...
Caymus says, "A lot of changes and a lot of questions I'm sure."
Caymus says, "Before we get into it, I'd like to give you a bit of information about what to expect from me."
Caymus says, "My job has a variety of aspects..."
Caymus says, "To see that the guild remains fresh, that new experiences are developed..."
Caymus says, "To be certain you have a sense of purpose and a place in the realms..."Caymus says, "And to see that the guild remains balanced in terms of challenge and reward."Caymus says, "I enjoy roleplay scenarios and I have quite a few planned out for the coming months to introduce new aspects to the guild."Caymus says, "Various things in the works are the Northern Province Guildhall, the enchantment system, a new prediction system, the sub-guilds, new prediction tools and a few other odds and ends."Caymus says, "Once again, please don't ask me how they'll work or when you'll get them."
Caymus says, "m currently very involved in the private housing project, somewhat involved in the quest development..."
Caymus says, "No gamemaster has complete control of their time. I'm currently very involved in the private housing project, somewhat involved in the quest development...
Caymus says, "And I do the technical work for the mentors as well."
Caymus says, "I don't like to make time commitments and then not be able to keep them. It disappoints you, it makes me look like I'm misleading you."
Caymus says, "I very much welcome thoughts on storylines, suggestions on how to improve ingame systems..."
Caymus says, "And thought for future develeopments."
Caymus says, "I draw heavily upon the ideas of the guild members."
Caymus says, "As for the requirement changes..."
Caymus says, "They will be implimented in two pieces."
Caymus says, "The first will be changes to the standard skill requirements."
Caymus says, "The second will be a prediction requirement, but before you all go out and go prediction crazy..."
Caymus says, "It will be an entirely new system and you will need to relearn it."
Caymus says, "I will not grandfather the first piece in any manner."
Caymus says, "For the second piece I haven't decided."
Caymus says, "I believe I've found away to make the prediction piece far less scriptable, or at least extremely inconvenient and dangerous to script."
Caymus says, "The standard requirements have been raised considerably, but within keeping of the other guilds."
Caymus says, "Some of the other GM's petitioned that they were still too low."
Caymus says, "I think the combination of the increase and the prediction requirement will put the guild on even footing with the others."
Caymus says, "Before you ask, I'm not going to give you the numbers. You'll have to figure it out by talking to your fellow guild members."
Caymus says, "The other measures Thorrick mentioned will be added as I have the time to complete them."
Caymus says, "I'm not going to say "soon", just when I have the time to do them."
Caymus says, "Please reread the large sign with question guidelines and I'll open the list."
