when i was in school befored i joined the army i had a couple of swords,until my dad got rid of them.i just found a couple of swords that i will be buying on the 15 of aug..the only thing i know about these swords are that they are of japanese make.i want to get them appraised and find out who the creator of these swords are.the name of the creator is punched into the blade near the hilt of the blade.it's in japanese so i also need to find a translator.but i am really interested in learning about sword col ecting and care of the blades as well.i have been studing martial arts for almost 16 yrs. now.any info. you have and can supply me with would be greatly appreaciated. thank you very much...scott

Thank you for this site,i train in Dux Ryu Ninjitsu and my instructor is an avid sword teacher and disciple.I have been training for about 8mo now,the sword is my favorite weapon,its like an extension of my body.I agree with you when you say that most peo le don't appreciate the value of the sword...in many ways.This year i competed in the Sabaki and the first place winners won swords,i found it amusing that none of the competitors that won 1st place knew anything about the sword,it was more an object.Than you again for your website most educational.Keep up the work.

I studied Shinkendo with Dr Byrd in Illinois for a very short time. Dr Byrd was a student of Toshishiro Obata.
