Poor Me
Home Up

What a person looks like when they are in a car going 70 MPH that hits a semi-truck.

and my poor car...

1No, I was not driving, I was in the passenger seat. But silly me, I put my seat back so I could sleep, and took the lap belt off because it was "uncomfortable". >_<

My car has an automatic shoulder seat belt, so that was on, but it didn't bother me since it was so high. Lets just say you don't want to be in that position when you hit a car. I was asleep at the time of impact, but what probably happened was the top part of my body popped up and my neck got caught on the shoulder belt. (hence the scars on my neck) I also was sliding forward, so when I woke up  my knees were stuck in the dashboard, and my butt was on the floor board. OUCH!

I was in shock, and kept asking the driver to get me out, to move me, because my feet were falling asleep! good thing he didn't though. So we had to wait 30 minutes for the ambulance and fire truck. They used the jaws of life to open my side of the door, and had to take apart part of the dash board to get my knees out. Onto a back board I went, and took a 30 minute ride to the hospital. I really didn't think I was going to make it when I heard that it was going to take that long. To keep myself occupied, I counted for as long as I could till I passed out. (I guess that counting sheep thing really works!)

So I get to the hospital, and they put a chest tube in because of a collapsed lung. Whoever was doing it missed, I felt them hit my ribs a few times before getting it in. OWW! I get my x-rays, and low and behold, I broke my neck! I don't think I found that out right then though because right after they got done with the x-rays, I had a terrible cramping in my lower abdomen.  I started screaming, and passed out. My spleen had burst on the x-ray table. I remember hearing people talking at one point after they had put me under for surgery (splenectomy), they were saying they would have to do a tracheotomy because they couldn't get a breathing tube in. NO WAY MAN! I'm not going to have a hole in my throat! So I woke myself up, twitching my hands and fluttering my eyelids,  but they just put me back down. From what my Mom tells me though, a doctor had heard the commotion when I was waking up, and came in to see if he could help. He ended up being able to get the tube in. (Thank you!) After the surgery, I just woke up with that metal cage on my head!

Long story short (too late!) I had a broken neck, splenectomy and a collapsed lung. (plus some nasty scars on my knee. I guess they didn't feel they needed to stitch them up because of all my other injuries.) :( I was in the Halo for 3 months, which is actually the shortest amount of time you can wear one.

Wanted to say thank you to Sean for taking care of me during my recuperation. I don't know if I could've made it through that with out him. I love you babe!

I really think God must have a plan for me. I'm not religious, but you cannot go through an experience like that and not wonder. My spleen could've burst while waiting for the ambulance, or during the ride to the hospital. But it didn't. I could've broken my neck to the point of being paralyzed, but I didn't. So let's see what life has in store for me...
