The Characteristics of Korean

Exterial Feature of Koreans

How Koreans Look Like
Koreans are considered as the descendant of two strains: the nomadic tribes of Mongolia and Aryan migrants from central and western Asia. The forbears of Koreans are migrants from Manchuri and Siberia who moved to the peninsula some 4,000 years ago. Koreans generally have brown eyes, brown to black hairs, and yellowish white skin.

The Structure of Korean Society
Confucianism has been the most significant influence on the behavior and customs of the Korean people. Respect is accorded to the older members of the community, especially to senior members in family hierarchy. Compared with the western societies, Korean society is more of male-dominated, and married women are more expected to be engaged in householding. In a family, the eldest son is considered to be responsible for taking care of his parents, and in some cases, "extended" families, encompassing perhaps three or four generations, live under one roof.

Traditionally, Koreans eat, relax and sleep on cushions or mattresses on the heated "Ondol" floor. Therefore, even in today's modern apartments in Korea, such western-style furniture like couches, chairs, tables and beds are placed on the "Ondol". Shoes are removed when entering a Korean home.

Korea, Korean, Korean Culture
Korea,"the country of morning calm", is a peninsula country that is located in the north east Asia. Korea was established about 5,000 years ago by Tangun. It has a long history and tradition.

Education of Korea
Koreans are enthusiastic and passionate of education. Because of the lack of materialistic source in Korea, Koreans tend to provide the best quality of education. Koreans believe that education is the key to prosperity. Therefore, from the ancient times of Korea, we've have been concentrating on educating young people for good source of prosperity. The teaching in Korea was strict that Koreans were taught by discipline being hit with a bamboo stick.

Koreans showed the world the fastest development after the World War II. This was the result of Koreans' diligence, inteligence, and their cooperations.

One People, One Culture
Korea is one of the one-blooded society in the world. Koreans tend to look alike, think alike, and act alike. There are something called a craze or a fad. If someone who is popular, say, an actor wears a baggy pants, the Korean teenagers would wear it. Koreans tend to be one. Americans would say "I am I, and you are you.", while Koreans say "I am you, and you are me.". It seems funny but, this is the strength and the reality in Korea. That's why we Koreans consider friends important. Koreans think about the relationship they make with each other. They think good and many friends is one of the biggest treasure and key to success in world.

Koreans are close to each other. We spend many times to get to know each other. We help and assist each other. We cooperate with each other in hard situations.
