In-depth on Chichiri
Chichiri is sort of a mystery. He tends to keep to himself, most of the time. But, in OVA 2, we learn more about his past. It's something like this:
Chichiri used to live in a village once. He had this best friend dude named Hikou, and a fiancee. Of course, the best friend was invited to the wedding, but this friend had had a crush on Chichiri (or Houjun)'s girlfriend forever, and he wanted her to know how he felt, so he kissed her and Chichiri saw. The fiancee felt really bad that Chichiri had seen her get kissed by another dude and that she didn't derserve Chichiri, so she told him that she wasn't going to marry him. (That's pretty loyal, but she shoulda clarifyed the reason WHY she didn't wanna marry him...) Chichiri thought that it was cuz he was in love with his best friend, and of course, he's feeling pretty pissed so he goes and picks a fight with Hikou when it was raining and near the river, i might add... (That was not very smart.) Hikou somehow fell into the river and was about to drown, and Chichiri forgot about the fight and managed to catch his hand in the river.
THEN, Chichiri sees a big tree branch thing coming towards him in the water. He couldn't defend himself cuz he couldn't let go of Hikou, so the jagged branches headed straight for his face and eternally closed his left eye, while leaving a scar that marred his face. This is pretty bad, BUT, things got worse because Chichiri, in extreme pain (as u can imagine,) let go of Hikou's hand and he drowned. *sniff* Such a sad story. (Did I mention that the flood killed off Chichiri's family and his fiancee, not to mention all of Mitsukake's family as well? *sigh* natural disasters are sooooooooo tragic.)
Chichiri was carried with this burden and guilt that he was the cause of his best friend's death, but they made up in the end after a long story with Hikou being an evil villian and minion of Tenkou (he controlled water. Isn't that ironic?) that I don't really care to tell (I'll probably explain it somewhere else on my page, just not now). But, this is all in Part Two of the OVA series in which things get quite confusing to people that don't know what I'm talking about...
Well, I'm glad that Chichiri didn't die! He was one of the remaining three seishi of Miaka that did not get killed, which is a really good thing considering he is really pretty good with his magic. He can do offensive attacks as well as defensive and is the only one that can stand up to Nakago (for a little while, anyways.)
