Hotohori is the young and good-looking emporer of Konan. Being very lonely and surrounded by palace officials his whole life, he heard about the legend of Suzaku no Miko and hoped that she could cure his lonliness. So, when Miaka bounced in, he found himself falling for her. But she chose Tamahome instead of him, (why??????? I mean, he's a way fine emporer, not to mention caring, thoughtful, loving...)

Hotohori is basically a gentle, peace-loving, caring person. He pretty quiet (in my opinion), and worries a lot (about Miaka, his country, the basic stuff that emporers are suppose to be worried about.) But of course, he has his faults and the main one is his vanity. ("I'm so beautiful it's scary...") But hey, it adds humor to the story... In-depth info (that may contain spoilers) here.
