Nuriko's an awesome character! Of course, his big secret is that "she's" really a he. He was the second son of a cloth-seller. See, he dressed in woman's clothing because he had a way adorable younger sis named Kourin, who he was way fond of (and looked a lot like). Then, one day, tragedy struck and Kourin was killed in a cart accident *sniff*. Nuriko was so crushed by this, nobody could comfort him. He started dressing like Kourin so that in this way, Kourin could "live" through him and he would never forget him. (Awww......)

Nuriko is introduced as a princess named (suprise suprise!) Kourin living at Hotohori's palace cuz he's in love with the emporer, and s/he's jealous of Miaka and stuff... More info (with spoilerz...Don't say I didn't warn ya! here.)
