Arcade photo machine self-portrait with Nikonos and grandpa Hougham's vintage handknit sweater (Cowichan Sweaters are produced by Canada's West Coast Salish Indians). Times Square, New York, ca. 1975.
From four original machine-made images, one image was duplicated and reinserted back into the sequence to animate in a loop of five. The sequence now runs in each of the four reconstructed frames of the machine-made strip. Twenty five years of the four image's chronological separation from each other is now re-animated to bring the viewer closer to the moment of original creation. This re-creation is at once an imaginary historical voyage through time and a new object unknown at the time of each of the four image's separate creation: by varying the timing of the sequencing now, the choice of the fifth frame that was reinserted, the transparency and other image optimization parameters, we create one object among a virtually infinite number of possibilities.
