Introduction

This story is based on the popular anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion.  It takes place six thousand years after the third impact.  Though most of it is based on fact from the series, a few parts are of my own views on the series or my religious beliefs.  Any similarity in names, cities, etc is purely coincidental.  For those who read this in its entirety, I would appreciate it if you would e-mail me at neongenesisevangelion@home.com with your questions, comments, or concerns.  If enough requests for the next episode come to me, I will post it as fast as I can.  Thank you and enjoy.

Warning!

Episode Three-As Worlds Collide

Kasana pulls up to the daycare and steps out.  She sees Misharo and heads in her direction as she dashes toward her mother.  Kasana scoops her up in a hug and says, “Hey Mishi!  How was your day?”

Misharo says with a large smile, “It was fun!  We learned more about the ABC’s and 123’s.  How was your day, Mommy?”

Kasana puts her down, shrugs, and says, “It was eventful…  A lot of good…  A lot of bad…  We got the project to work.”

Misharo says gleefully, “I bet you were happy!”

With another shrug, Kasana says, “Yeah, I guess I was.”

As Kasana says this, Misharo looks around her and sees a shadowy figure sitting in the front passenger seat.  When her mother finishes, she asks, “Mommy, who came with you?”

Kasana looks at the car and says, “Well, let me go introduce you to him…” With that, the two walk to the car and they both get in, Misharo in the backseat, Kasana in the driver’s.  Kasana looks at Lee, who sits in the passenger seat and says, “Lee, I’d like you to meet my daughter Misharo, or Mishi for short.”  She then says to Misharo, “Mishi, this is Lee.  He helped finish the project and he’ll be staying with us for a while.

Lee smiles and says, “Hey Mishi, nice to meet ya.”

Misharo, in her childish voice, responds, “Nice to meet you too, Mr. Lee.”

Lee smirks and tells her, “Nah, just Lee is good.  I hate being called ‘Mr.’ something.”

She smiles and says, “Okey-dokey Lee.  So you helped Mommy finish the project?”

Kasana starts the car up and begins to drive as Lee answers, “Yeah, I did.  How much has your mother told you about the ‘Project’?”

Misharo gains a look of innocence and says, “She’s only told me that it’s top secret and that it can bring us peace or war.”

Lee smiles and reassures her, “It’s alright.  I was just wondering.”

Misharo smiles and declares, “Okay.  That’s fine.”

Lee turns around so that he’s facing forward again and sarcastically says, “Sounds like you were a little more optimistic back when you said that.”

Kasana glances at him with an unapproving look and says, “Funny.  The project wasn’t about the Evangelion at the beginning.  At first, it was just borrowing some of the systems so workers could control their machines better.  Even then, I had my doubts, but now I find out that they’ve been using this as an excuse to make the second generation of Eva.”

Lee asks her, “You really hate them, the officials I mean, don’t you?”

Kasana states, “I hate what they’re doing, not them.  They’ll bring Hell to us all with the Eva.  By the way, do you even know the code name of your Eva?”

Lee shakes his head and she continues, “It’s been named Eva-G, the Genesis of the new Eva.  Its nickname is what you make it.”

Lee smirks and says, “I’ll take that as my ‘If I screw up, everything is over for you’ speech.”

Kasana says, “Yeah, I guess you could call it that…”

“Shinji and Asuka went out into the world, feeling separated from God.  After a couple of days, the two found a hospitable area to restart civilization.  They built a house out of timber and began to plant food they had gathered along the way.  They had three sons, who they named Kouro, Kaji, and Gendo.  They also had three daughters, who they named Rei, Misato, and Ritsuko.  They named their children the names of those closest or most influential to them.

“They told them all about the old world.  What it was like and what ended it.  Neither had taken the time to write of the events and, when they told their youngest son, Kouro, the story, he took it upon himself to complete God’s task.  Though the meekest of the brothers, God Himself showered Kouro with blessings.  In the years to pass, it was decided that two of the brothers would go and find new homes at Shinji’s death.  The brother left would be the head of Shinji’s home.

“More time passed and Shinji, at the age of nine hundred seventy-two, began to decline in health.  Kaji, the oldest, and Gendo worked extremely hard the last few months of their father’s life.  This gave them little time to talk with Shinji before his death.  Kouro, however, stayed with his father at any possible moment.  They talked constantly of Shinji’s old life and what mistakes Kouro mustn’t make.

“At Shinji’s last breaths, all the family members stood at his bed, men and women.  Before them all he said to his children, ‘As I have said many times before, I love you all and I want the best for you.  This is why I have decided Kouro will take my place.’  The two older brothers try to protest, but Asuka quiets them and Shinji continues, ‘I send you two because I know you can do it.  I give my home to Kouro because he is the one who cared enough for me, not my decision, to spend time with me.  I love you all and remember the mistakes we made…’ Those were Shinji’s last words.

“After mourning and seven days, Kaji left to the north with Misato and Gendo went south with Ritsuko.  Kouro and Rei were left at the home to take care of Asuka and make their own family.”

“Neon Genesis, Chapter 28 and 29”

Kasana quietly closes the bible so that she won’t wake the now sleeping Misharo.  She kisses her daughters forehead, rises, and walks out of the room.  Lee stands a few feet down the hall, leaning on the wall.  Kasana asks quietly and sarcastically, “Been there long?”

As Kasana closes her daughter’s door, Lee responds, “Long enough to hear the story of Kouro again.”  He smirks and walks into the living room as she does.

Both sit and Kasana says, “You know, for someone your age and in your position, you’re very educated in the Bible.”

Lee nods his head and says, “Yeah, I know.  I was born in a religious family, so it was natural for me to turn to God when I was imprisoned.”

Kasana remarks, “Good…  Well, I hope you keep that attitude as you pilot the Eva, ‘cause tomorrow starts your training.”  She rises and then adds, “I’m going to bed.  You should to; the couch folds out into a bed and there’s plenty of food in the kitchen.  If you need anything else, don’t hesitate to wake me up.”

Lee tells her, “Thanks, but I should be fine.”

The next day, the two had already arrived in the ORE office building at eight o’clock.  Once again, the five men dressed in black, greeted them.  As they approached, the “leader” of the group said to Kasana and Lee, “Mrs. Tiro, Mr. Tiachi, if you’d please come with us.”

After the same long journey, the odd group finally reaches the inner sanctum of the ORE complex.  Kasana and Lee then proceed to Sinoto’s office.  Following five security checks, two encounters with secretaries, and a run in with Surata, they stood in front of Sinoto.

The room is large, white, and mostly barren.  The only things that decorate the room are a few relics and paintings, depicting the old Eva, a desk, and three chairs.  Sinoto himself sits in the seat behind the desk.  He watches the duo as they enter and he says, “Come in.  Have a seat.”

Kasana and Lee sit as Kasana begins to say, “What do you need Mr. Yuna?”

Sinoto answers, “I wanted to speak to you and Lee about his future.”

Kasana nods and Lee asks, “What about it?”

Sinoto smiles and continues, “Well, you know as well as me that you can never enter school again.”

Lee, growing more sarcastic, says, “Yeah, it’s crossed my mind.”

Kasana taps his knee and shakes her head at his actions, but Sinoto remains quite calm and says, “Well, I’ve decided that you should be educated by those most schooled in each subject.  Kasana will be your Biblical teacher and English teacher.”

Kasana interrupts, “What?  You’ve already got me on this project against my will!  What else do you want?”

Sinoto continues, “Your personal problems don’t concern me, Mrs. Tiro.  All I want I want is your complete cooperation or your employment here will be terminated.  Now, as I was saying…  Ah yes, Hirotaki will be you Math and Science tutor.  Lastly, Ryshiro will teach you History and foreign languages you may need to know.”

Lee only utters the word, “Fine…”

Sinoto continues, “That’s all fine and good, but those aren’t truly going to help your ability to pilot.  The next three days will be only training, and then we will put you on a schedule.  Get down to the training facility.  Eva-G is waiting, along with Hirotaki.”

Both Lee and Kasana begin to rise, but Sinoto tells Kasana, “Only Lee.  I want to speak with you for a few more minutes.”  With that, Lee walks out and they begin to talk.

Lee floats in a yellowish room, dressed in a black wet-suit-resembling outfit.  He has a black helmet on with the visor down.  A voice, seemingly coming through the walls, says, “Alright Lee, you’ve been here before.  Do you still like the entry plug?”

Lee responds, “Yeah, Hirotaki, but it seems different than the one described in the book of Neon Genesis.”

Hirotaki says through the speakers, “That’s because it is.  It’s directly connected to the Eva’s core and, now, this room merely mimics your movements through the Eva.  The original pilots sat in seats and had to partially use controls.  Now, I’m about to power up the Eva; this may be disorienting.  Powering up.”

Suddenly, Lee no longer floats in the yellowish room, but stands in a long room.  There are a variety of guns and weapons leaning or hung on the wall to the left of him.  In front of him is a long hall-like extension to the room.  At the end of it are targets of different shapes and sizes.  Lee turns around and sees a very small window in the middle of the wall.  To him, it seems smaller than a mouse hole.  Surprisingly, he is dressed in normal clothes.

As he is turning around to see all these things a second time, a voice, like Hirotaki’s enters his head, “Easy Lee.  You’re seeing what the Eva is seeing.  Every move you make, the Eva makes.”

Lee looks around in confusion, and then crouches down, looks in the window, and sees Hirotaki.  He tries to speak, but an unseen force oddly seals his mouth.  Hirotaki speaks again, “You can’t talk.  The Eva’s mouth is sealed, which in turn, seals your mouth.  You can communicate with us by thinking that you are saying the words the microphone inside the Eva.”

From inside of the training control, all of Lee’s movements have been those of the Eva.  From the speakers comes Lee’s voice, he says, “Alright…  Can you here me?”

Hirotaki answers into the microphone, “Yes, I can here you.  Incredible that you’ve caught on this fast.”

Lee says, “Yeah, well, why the Hell didn’t this happen during the initial test?”

Hirotaki explains, “I didn’t let you use your full sync ratio potential, so that you couldn’t berserk.  Now you’re using your full sync rate, an amazing three hundred thirty-six.”

Lee, slightly confused, says, “Look, you’re the science wiz.  I have no idea what that means.  Just tell me what I’m supposed to do.”

Hirotaki, a little insulted, answers, “Fine.  First we’re going to test your body functions.  Go down the corridor as fast as you can. When you reach the end, jump to the next level, jump back down, and return here.”

Lee immediately begins.  He runs as fast as he can down the oversized hall.  The Eva copies the action, but it moves so fast that its legs begin to blur around the edges.  He goes on and completes each task with amazing ease and skill.  Afterwards, he sits in front of the window and stares at Hirotaki and her assistants.

Hirotaki says in astonishment, “That was perfect.  Seems we won’t waste anymore time on that…  On the wall to my right are a variety of weapons.  Choose a couple a get ready for target practice.”

Lee, or Eva-G, grabs a number of small knives, a long broad sword, and two single-handed Uzi’s.  All of which are sized for the Eva.  He attaches the Uzi’s on his back, sheathes the sword and hangs it off of his hip, and holds the knives between his fingers.

Hirotaki tells him, “Alright, now, those are high sound frequency knives you’ve selected.  It’s up to you how you use them, but there are four targets at the end of the corridor, as you probably noticed.  I think you ca put two and two together.  Do your best.”

Lee responds, “Easy enough…”

The Eva pulls its right arm back, hurls its hand down, and releases the knives from its fingers.  The four knives fly at high speed, vibrating, down the hall.  In a split second the knives make a triangle around the center and the fourth shatters through the bull’s eye.  The Eva turns and looks straight at Hirotaki.

Lee asks, “Good enough for you?”

Hirotaki answers in a shocked voice, “B…Better than expected…”

Lee the inquires, “Uzi’s now, right?”

She says, “Uh…  Sure…  Why not?”

Lee pulls his arms around his back and unlatches the two guns.  The Eva mimics these movements with incredible accuracy.  It then, due to Lee’s commands, aims with both weapons then opens fire on the defenseless targets.

Lee asks, “Well, how’d I do?”

Hirotaki responds by hitting a switch.  The five targets slowly pull away from the wall and approach the Eva.  The Eva’s head looks at each as Lee inspects them and a laugh comes through the speakers.  Each target has been shot in the bull’s eye fifteen times and also has a small ring of bullet holes around it.

Lee laughs again into the microphone inside the Eva and says, “Well, seems like I’m not gonna be here long.”

Hirotaki begins to respond with, “Yes, but--”

Before she can continue, a loud alarm goes off inside the entire complex.  Both the Eva and those inside the training control center look around.  A commotion begins to break out in the control center.

Their questions are soon answered by a low methodical voice saying, “Warning.  Warning.  A large group of unidentified life forms are approaching Eden.  All personal, go into emergency response code blue.”

Hirotaki yells into the microphone, “Lee, you’ve got to get to the upper level and launch.”

Lee asks, “And do what?”

Hirotaki answers, “Launch and find out what the heck it is.”
