The Four Leaved Clover

If you find a four leaved clover, it will bring happiness.

But don’t tell anyone

Where its white flower blooms

Or how many leaflets from its stem extend.

The four leaved clover.

I only want your happiness, knowing

I can never be yours to share it.

 --Clamp's "Clover".

Kurama looked intently at Hiei. "You are the best thing I can ever have," Hiei whispered. "It hurts to let you go."

"I have to."

"I know."

Silence.

"You are the four leaved clover that I can find."

"Sayonara…"

He turned away from him, and went away.

Eyes closed forever.

Now I have no happiness…

****

It was a fine day when they met. Hiei was looking at the clovers, wondering why there was only one four leaved when all the others were only three leaved.

Kurama was walking into his way, letting down his defences and singing his favorite song. "I want happiness…"

Hiei immediately leapt onto a tree and watched as he passed by, and attacked. Kurama was taken by surprise and the blade cut into his shoulder. Hiei paused and asked, "Who are you?"

"Ouch…" Kurama looked up in pain, preparing for his rose whip. "Is this how you usually greet people?"

"Sort of…" He smiled, showing one of his little fangs. "I’m sorry."

Kurama winced. "Who are you?"

"Hiei…" He carried Kurama into his little hut and set him down onto his bed.

"You live alone?" Kurama watched as Hiei tended to his wounds.

"You can say that." He pulled the bandage around again. "Hold still."

Kurama felt ridiculous, sitting down in the position where he might get struck if the opponent felt like it. "Why are you helping me when you attacked me in the first place?"

"Because…"

He sat down beside him.

"You are special."

"How so?"

He shrugged. "I just feel it."

"Hn." He leaned back, closing his eyes for a brief moment.

Hiei watched, eyes twinkling with amusement.

"What are you laughing at?"

"You."

"Hn?"

"Nothing."

Days went by. Kurama stayed in Hiei’s home, somehow, and at first the reason was that Hiei ought to take care of him as he was the one who hurt him in the first place. But then, his wound had to heal faster and soon he had no reason to stay. But Hiei did not let him go, and never implied so.

Soon they became buddies and never went anywhere without each other.

However, things were not to last.

Kurama found a weird gem and played with it for a while, and suddenly the gem glowed brighter and brighter till it was almost impossible to see.

Finally, when it faded, Kurama saw that standing in front of him was an exact replica of himself. It was far more than that. It was himself, probably a clone of him. Kurama knew that this was a part of him, and named it Sakura, for its eyes was a cherry pink instead of his green.

Sakura went away and lived outside in a cave.

Kurama continued to go on with Hiei, but would visit Sakura occasionally without Hiei knowing. Sakura taught Kurama lots of thing, and pointed out what Kurama actually felt in his heart. Soon Kurama knew that he was in love with Hiei and wanted to be with him. Sakura heard a lot about Hiei, too, and kind of like him. In their minds they would share the same visions and dreams, though somewhat different.

Hiei found a white flower blossoming near his four leaved clover, and plucked his four leaved clover and kept it, as it was said to bring happiness. Sometimes he would get philosophical and compare Kurama with his clover. Kurama brought him happiness, like the clover somehow did. It did not take him long to realise that he was in love with Kurama.

Everything worked out pretty well, as they went on a run when people were after them for some particular reasons and finally they expressed their feelings.

Hiei was hurt pretty badly and almost died, if not for Kurama calling upon his God and exchanged his life for Hiei’s.

In Sakura’s mind he could hear Kurama’s voice: Sorry… I can’t fulfil my wish of Hiei bringing me to a true Elsewhere… Please take care of him for me…

And Hiei could hear Kurama’s voice from somewhere above: Please take care of the other me, and let him be happy. Then I shall be contented.

****

They met again, in the same way as Hiei met Kurama.

But it was, in a way, different.

Sakura kept Hiei happy, and times he would feel that Sakura is perhaps the One that Kurama had told him about.

But Hiei felt that Sakura was not enough, though Sakura shared a soul with Kurama. Soon Hiei’s life was in danger once again, he almost died, and Sakura exchanged his life for Hiei’s. Sakura said a prayer, and he ran a blade through himself. Hiei watched as his loved one died again, and cried. He died soon, with Sakura’s blade through himself, and, when he saw Kurama once again, with wings like a dove’s, and it was then the answer came to him: The four leaved clover was only one and alone. Sakura was Kurama, and Hiei was in love with Kurama.

But a small place in Kurama’s heart was sad.

It was Sakura.

Author’s notes:

Hi!

Yesterday (on Tuesday night) I broke a person’s heart. It waas the first heart I broke, and I was kinda unwilling to let go, but I felt like a bird in a gilded cage, like the second part of "Clover" the song. He was the owner and put me in a cage where I was devoided of freedom.

Remind me never to have a scorpion for a boyfriend again.

I feel that I have done the right thing, though we’ve only been attached for one whole Thirty six hours roughly.

But anyway at first I already have my One special four leaved clover.

Then another four leaved clover in line.

The second one is one who was pointed out by God and actually was called to be beware of girls.

Ironic.
