Once a handsome young man, Zelgadis Greywers made the mistake of studying under his infamous great-grandfather (and grandfather, but that's another story), REZO the RED PRIEST.  Rezo took young Zelgadis' wish for power a wee bit too far and transformed him into a Chimera, which is to say, part demon, part human, and part golem.  Thus, his skin is made of stone.  With his transformation, Zelgadis gained great shamanist magic and superhuman speed.  But he also gained the overwhelming desire to chnge back into a human.  Of course, what he doesn't realize is that we Zelgadis Lovers prefer his Chimera form ^_^
