Vyceria

Vyceria is a small planet in the Platyrian Empire that, over the decades, has found itself earning the classification of a border world as Platyrian fringe territories wither away and pull back under the onslaught of the Bagel armadas. The plucky, black-feathered farmers of this agrarian society took the classification and shrinking borders in stride, however, reasoning that, like the tides, the border receded only to flow back again. Few left as the battles drew near enough to watch on cloudless nights, and fewer still objected to the construction of a Platyrian Naval base on their moon.

And then their sun went supernova.

To date, the records are unclear as to just what exactly caused the nova. Nebera had been a perfectly healthy sun-star, with billions upon billions of years left in her and no comets or asteroids in sight. Some have suggested the nova explosion may have been triggered by some new and terrible Bagel weapon, such as a massive quantum-charged subspace particle cannon, but no evidence has emerged to support these theories. Vyceria, devastated by the blast, immediately moved to evacuate – but was blocked by a navy worried that the combined loss of the local population and the fleet that had moored there would cost them buffer territory they couldn’t afford to lose. It was decided that, for the sake of the empire, Vyceria and her navy must stay and protect the border.

The Bagels, no doubt taking in the damage to the world and the mortal nature of the wound its sun had sustained, withdrew further south, bypassing the wounded system and her fighters entirely. When Platyria- convinced this was simply a diversion - refused to allow evacuations to begin, Vyceria took to smuggling its inhabitants out, and for a time succeeded in doing so undetected. However, their exploits were eventually discovered by Platyrian officials probing the increase in area piracy, and the navy again moved to shut down the operation. This, in turn, sparked a brief but bloody civil war that resulted in the lockdown of the system and imposition of martial law. The Black Knights - the division of the Vycerian Navy responsible for most of the fighting – managed for a time to avoid capture and continue carrying out their mission, prompting Platyria to brand them as terrorists and redouble their efforts to bring the rogues to ground.

At present, only a few scattered Knights remain unaccounted for. Vyceria remains under mandatory lockdown; Platyrian naval forces have sealed the region and will not allow Allied observers near the area for inspection or humanitarian aid. The dying Nebera is rumored to be collapsing, though at presents no estimates as to how many years the star has left are available.
