"With a vague look of regret, Qianlong often look to the southwest from time to time on his deathbed."

Qianlong's original name was Hongli. He was the 4th son of Yongzheng. Kangxi and Yongzheng's combined rule had lasted over 70 odd years and the dynasty was flourishing. After Qianlong ascended the throne at the age of 24, he made even more vigorous efforts at improving the country.

However, during the middle period of his reign, he started being too arrogant due to his achievements and the court became more and more corrupted. Officials started to suck up to him in hope of gaining his favour. This marked the decline of the social practice that was present during Qing dynasty's heyday.

When Qianlong died at the age of 88 in year 1799, he had already passed his throne to his son Yongyan, otherwise known as Jia Qing. He died with a look of regret on his face as a rebellion had just broken out in southwest China. Qianlong could be counted within the few emperors who saw both the heyday and the decline of their dynasty in their reign.
