*Chapter 5*
"I'm going to go ahead back to the Kamiya dojo and see if anything
had happened," Aoshi said as he walked towards the door of Megumi's office.
He walked past Dr. Genzai, and greeted him with a slight smile. Misao sat
up.
"Ok! I'm gonna stay hear with chicken boy for awhile!" Misao
squeaked. Sano let out a loud "HEY!" and proceeded to call her 'weasel girl'
and such other things. Aoshi turned back around and walked out, shutting the
door behind him.
"WEASEL GIRL!? YOU THINK THAT HUNTER WAS POWERFUL, WAIT UNTIL I GET
A HOLD OF YOU!!" Misao screamed with her devil eyes. Sano sat up in his bed,
fists raised.
"BRING IT ON, WEASLEY!!" Sano challenged. Megumi bolted between them.
"THERE ARE OTHER PATIENTS HERE WHO DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR INFERNAL
YELLING!!!!" Megumi shrilled, adding to the conversation. Sano and Misao both
narrowed their eyes and sweat drops became visible as they backed down from
the flaming Megumi. When Megumi turned around, Misao and Sano glared at each
other.
Suddenly, a scream was heard. Misao cocked her head, straining her
ears. Sano hopped out of bed instinctively. The two stood, listening. Sano
looked at Misao and said, "That was Kenshin!"
"What? Well, come on! Let's go see what's wrong!" Misao said, making
a dash for the door. She was stopped by Sanosuke hand yanking her back.
Another yell went through the air. This one was much more deeper and carnal.
"Hey, weasel girl. Kenshin's not in trouble. He was doing one of his
angry yells, like he was gonna kick someone's ass!" Sanosuke stopped. He
then grinned and threw up his arm. "Yeah! He's gonna kick someone's ass!
That must have been the Hunter who yelled the second time! Probably a howl of
defeat! Come on!" He said, raising his foot to go. He ran out the door and
tripped as soon as he stepped out. Damn injuries. How come I'm always hurt?
"Need a hand, CHICKEN BOY!?" Misao laughed. Sano growled.
"Why would I need any help from a skinny little girl like YOU?!"
"Ha! Well, at least GIRLS are SUPPOSED to be SKINNY!"
"WHY YOU!!" Sano yelled, running after Misao. She turned the corner,
Sanosuke following suit. He bumped into her and fell over. He looked up,
ready to yell at her, but something caught his eye. He looked down the road.
He saw Kenshin on his knees, his mouth open. Saitoh was leaned against a
building, blood all over him. Aoshi was collapsed on the ground, and...
the Oniwa Banshu were lying on the ground in pools of blood. Sanosuke ran as
fast as he could over to Kenshin. Misao was still standing at the corner.
Sanosuke kneeled in front of Kenshin, and looked into his eyes.
"Sanosuke. I couldn't protect them." Kenshin mumbled.
"KENSHIN! WHAT HAPPENED?!" Sanosuke yelled. Kenshin slowly looked
up.
"The Hunter." Kenshin stated bluntly. Kenshin propped his sword onto
the ground and lifted himself up. He walked over to Saitoh, who coughed up
a small amount of blood. Kenshin held out his hand and helped Saitoh to his
feet. Saitoh spit to his side and pulled out a tooth. He examined it and
tossed it aside. He pulled something from his pocket and put it in his mouth.
He lit his cigarette and took a slowly inhaled a bit. He paused a second and
then let the smoke pour out of his mouth. He blew it away and looked around.
"The secret police are going to start an investigatation when they
hear about the Oniwa Banshu." Saitoh said. He took another puff before he
slowly started to walk away.
Misao was at Aoshi's side. She was screaming at him, tears streaming
out of her eyes. He finally opened his eyes and looked at her. She smiled
a bit, and then started to cry again. Aoshi's face darkened. He stood up,
and grabbed his Kodachi. He turned towards where the Hunter had gone, and
started to walk.
"Aoshi-sama! Where are you going!?" Misao asked as she ran in front
of him. Aoshi stopped and looked at her. He then kept walking, and pushed
Misao aside. Misao ran in front of him again.
"Don't! Don't go after him! Look at what he's already done! He
already injured you, do you really think that yo-" Misao stopped, looking deep
into Aoshi's eyes. They were the same as before, when he was chasing after
Himura-san. Misao slowly stepped aside and watched him walk past her and down
the hill. She turned to Kenshin, who was walking the opposite way of Aoshi,
towards the dojo. Misao slumped to the ground, alone.

"Excellent!" Kandak'la thought. Four trophies was a good start to
the hunt. He replayed the moment in his mind. He had turned to charge the
Dragon again, but saw four new victims. Without even stopping, he had slashed
at them, knowing they would jump. Readied, he parried their various pitiful
weapons and took three out in one swift movement, but his favorite was the
last. The large human had swiped at him, and judging by the size of him, the
human could have done a bit of damage, but Kandak'la had used his favorite
tactic. Every being he had ever hunted always swiped or grabbed at the torso,
so Kandak'la came up with a simple, yet powerful tactic. That tactic was to
simply open the spear, and dash towards the prey. Once he was in the prey's
weapon range, he would slide under the weapon and then push the spear upward,
resulting in a very pleasing impalation. This move also was very hard to do
because of the timing. If one were to slide to fast, they would push the
spear into the space right in front of the prey's face, leaving them totally
open. If they were to slide to late, they would be hit by their opponent's
attack, most likely resulting in death. It was all a matter of knowing the
opponent's speed, and split-second timing. The technique always gave him
such a thrill that he had to shout out. He loved letting his voice ring
throughout the nearby land right after a perfect kill.
Kandak'la sat down on top of a building, smiling. He unbuckled his
stealth camoflauge brace, and placed it next to him. There was a small bit
of his blood on the underside. The only place he had been hit was when that
human had pierced the brace. He looked at his forearm, examining the small,
but deep cut. It was still bleeding freely, and it stung. Kandak'la frowned.
Almost perfect, he thought. He pulled out his medical kit and placed it next
to him. He pulled a tiny metal disk from his belt and depressed the switch on
it. The disk spanned outward to form a small bowl. Kandak'la looked around
for a dry, crumbly substance that would serve as the coagulatory element for
the liquid bandage. Not seeing anything, Kandak'la punched through the roof
of the building he was on, and grabbed some of the debris. He placed it into
the bowl, and poured the thick blue liquid anasthetic onto the medium. Almost
immediately, the two substances mixed and created a type of gelatinous matter.
Kandak'la looked up and sighed. Then, without a second thought, he poured the
mixture onto his wound. The cold substance hit the wound, and Kandak'la's
nerves screamed. He tried to hold back, but to no avail. The chief bellowed
throughout the air in pain. The pain quickly resided, and Kandak'la threw
the bowl down, infuriated. Breathing heavily, Kandak'la stood up and jumped
off the building he was on and landed with a thud on the soft grass.

Yahiko swatted at the his invisible opponent again, and again. He
stopped for a moment and wiped his brow. Why was it that Kamiya-Kasshin-Ryu's
practices consisted of only one move? All of the other stuff was a bunch of
BS! Wiping floors, fetching water, cleaning clothes! It was all just a bunch
of chores Kaoru made him and Kenshin do. Just the fact that Kenshin did all
of that stuff, and wasn't in training proved that it was BS! He sighed.
"Why couldn't I learn the stuff that Kenshin learns..." Yahiko thought
to himself. "I can see it now...Myojin Yahiko, 15th succesor of the style of
HITEN-MITSURUGI-RYU!" Yahiko grinned as he thought of all the girls around
him as he wore the gigantic mantle, throwing a peace sign into the air. He
snapped himself back into reality. No wonder Hiko's such a jerk. I would
be too, if I were him! A thought came into his head. Yahiko turned around
and looked at the meditating Hiko, who sat in the corner of the dojo. Yahiko
fained a yawn and walked out. Grinning, he tip-toed to the clothes-line,
where the mantle was hanging to dry. He marveled at the largeness of the
red and white cloak, especially since the lin eit hung on seemed on the verge
of breaking! Yahiko stepped under it and un hooked it from the line. Almost
instantly, the mantle slammed Yahiko onto the ground.
WHAT THE HELL WAS IN THIS THING?! Yahiko scrambled to get out of
the weighted material, but to no avail. It must weigh a thousand pounds!
Yahiko grabbed his head at the ringing in his ears. The material must have
hit his head. Yahiko stopped and readied himself. With all of his young
strength, he pushed himself upward in to a standing position. Sweating and
breathing heavily, he managed to raise one hand and give a small peace sign.
Tsubame turned the corner of the dojo and looked at Yahiko. Realizing he had
an audience, Yahiko doubled his efforts and grinned. Tsubame stared a bit,
and started to giggle.
Suddenly, Yahiko heard a huge thud behind him. Uh-oh...it's probably
Hiko. Yahiko turned his head and saw an eight-foot tall...BEAST. Yahiko's
temperature flamed. That must be the Hunter! Dashing out of the mantle,
Yahiko ran in front of the wide-eyed Tsubane and turned, his bamboo sword
in front of him.
The creature examined him and Tsubane, and stalked towards them. It
moved slow, with a huge spear in it's hands. It came within three feet of
them, glowering at Yahiko. It dared him to make a move. Yes, it was taunting
him. Laughing under it's thick mask. Yahiko gritted his teeth together and
brought his sword up into a striking position. The creature brought it's head
within a foot of Yahiko, who slammed the sword down onto the helmet. The
bamboo splintered and slowly fell apart, leaving Yahiko with only half of
his sword. Fearing the end, Yahiko shut his eyes tight. After a few seconds,
he opened them to see the creature walking away from him. The creature
stopped, and turned to the right, flaring the spear into open position.
Yahiko looked to the right to see Hiko standing with the mantle on his
shoulders.
Hiko stood, a grim look on his face. The Hunter watched him for a
minute and suddenly charged forward, spear raised. In an instant, the Hunter
had the tip of the spear at Hiko's throat. Hiko just looked at the Hunter
and motioned towards the gate. The Hunter, with a loud groan, closed the
spear, and walked chest to chest with Hiko. Hiko looked up again and smirked.
The Hunter slowly turned and paced away from the Dragon. It then jumped
over the gate and was gone.
Yahiko and Tsubane stared at Hiko, dumbfounded. Just then, Kenshin
and Sanosuke walked through the gate. Kenshin looked at his master, who
turned and went back into the dojo. Kenshin walked in after him, leaving
Sanosuke behind. Sanosuke looked at Yahiko and Tsubane with a tired look on
his face and shook his head. Then Sano walked into the dojo. Yahiko
exchanged glances with Tsubame, and ran into dojo, screaming, "WAIT A MINUTE!"
