DEMON FIGHTER KOCHO
Keeping the world safe for horny teenagers everywhere!

Review by: Craig “Bad Anime Fighter” Norris
Length: 30-minute OAV
Genre: Ecchi, comedy, magical girl
Watched: All, subbed
I’ve got a demon for her... IN MY PANTS! If you found that funny, chances are you’ll be entertained by this short OAV. If you find such humor offensive, just mosey on back to your bible study class and forget you ever saw this.
Plot synopsis: The students at Heian University have recently started seeing ghosts wandering the halls. After an evil spirit seriously injures a student, Kocho Enno of the school’s Astrological Society vows that she will expel the spirit from the school. With the help of fellow student Kosaku Urano, her little sister Koran, and her mentor, Professor Kamo, Kocho explores the mystery behind the haunting and hones her spiritual power for a final showdown with the evil spirit that threatens her school.
Artwork: The artwork for the OAV is very pedestrian, and most certainly obsolete. The character designs are either totally unoriginal, or completely ripped from other anime. Considering the setting there wasn’t that much room for imagination, however, so that can be forgiven. Still, the visuals in this OAV aren’t going to impress anyone anymore, and I doubt they even impressed that many people when it was first produced.
Music: I admit that I’m a sucker for corny theme songs, and there’s a very enjoyable one at the end of the OAV. Whether it was enjoyable because of the talent of the singer or whether the ending credits showed the scenes of Kocho getting naked I’m not sure. But at least I stuck around long enough to listen to it all the way through. Expect fairly generic background music the rest of the way.
Characters: The characters here are all pretty fun and entertaining, as is to be expected with ecchi comedies. Kocho is a transfer student from Taiwan who came to Heian University to study astrology. She is confident that she can use what she has learned to drive the evil spirits from the school. Kosaku Urano is a classmate of Kocho. Kocho has a crush on him, but is also interested in him because he is susceptible to being haunted by ghosts and demons. Kocho’s little sister Koran also has a crush on Kosaku, despite still being in high school and not able to see him much. Koran is a horny little thing, and is often yelled at by Kocho who disapproves of her loose behavior. Professor Kamo is the head of the Astrological Society, and helps Kocho strengthen her spiritual powers so that she can summon (and defeat) the evil spirits of the school. He clearly knows what he’s doing, but he’s also a letch, often taking advantage of Kocho in an effort to see her goodies. Since this is an ecchi comedy, it goes without saying that he is gratified in his quest. It’s the simplicity of the characters that makes them entertaining, but it’s that same simplicity that makes them quite forgettable.
Plot: The plot may not be very complex, but it is concise. In thirty minutes we are presented with a protagonist, antagonist, conflict, climax (both the clean and dirty kinds), and resolution. Of course, it kind of rushes through everything and cheats a bit by using voice-overs, but for a 30-minute production where the main focus was ecchi humor, there is plenty of plot to be had. I’d hardly call the plot engrossing or provocative, but it’s there, and that’s a lot more than I can say for most ecchi comedies. Throw in some fourth wall-breaching and some gratuitous nudity, and you’ve got 30 minutes that should entertain a fairly wide audience.
CHICKS!: The bodies of the chicks are certainly more memorable than their personalities. But what bodies they are! Kocho’s figure straddles the line between girlish and curvaceous, and the anime leaves absolutely nothing about her body to the imagination, as every inch of her sweet, supple skin gets plenty of screen time. Despite this, she tries to maintain her modesty, even going so far as to pummel those who see her naked. Koran prefers to use her body rather than hide it, often tackling Kosaku to the ground and rubbing her breasts on him in an effort to seduce the lucky bastard. She is shorter than Kocho and her skin is more tanned, but she clearly has her sister’s curves. Considering these two girls are fairly generic, they are still spawned from a tried-and-true formula that any healthy young man can appreciate.
Overall: It’s a short ecchi comedy, so adjust your expectations as such. For half an hour of cheap laughs and boobies it’s not too bad. If you want more than that, though, look elsewhere. If you want something even more low-brow, your only real option left is a hentai.
