GALAXY ANGEL
Same Broccoli, different comedy

Review by: Richard "Pink is just not me" Martin
Length: 26 episodes
Genre: Comedy
Watched: All, Subbed
Well, this is another comedy from Broccoli, the creators of the DiGi Charat anime among others, and is a comedy in the same vein, but completely different in context, yet vaguely familiar in story and plot.
Plot synopsis: The five girls of the Galaxy Angel group are given the mysterious task of having to find the so called "lost technology".
Artwork: A lot better in quality than the previous DiGi Charat, with the characters not going into super-deformed or chibi mode quite so much, normally one when the anime needs to illustrate a point.
Music: Fairly catchy theme tune to the beginning and ending of the episodes, I quite liked them. The rest of the music was fairly average.
Characters: There are 5 characters in the first season. There is Milfuelle, who joins the Galaxy Angels in the second episode, and is fanatical about cooking. Then there is Ranpha, the typical oversexed blonde bombshell who is into getting laid and fortune telling. Then we have Forte, who is the tomboy and a gun nut, just like Maya from Burn Up Excess, with equally big breasts. She could almost be her long-lost sister. There's Mint Blancmache, who belies her age by being very intelligent and cutting in her words and who is obviously the brains of the whole group. And finally we come to Vanilla H, the quiet, reserved Buddhist Monk who acts more like an adult than the rest of the group, even though she's the youngest out of all of them.
Plot: As you watch the episodes, you find that the "lost technology" part of the plot doesn't get explored much at all, except for a few brief references; it feels like the storyline is more of a vehicle for the jokes and gags that persist through the anime. One episode of the series has a serious tone, which most viewers will not like because it is preferred for a comedy to stay a comedy and not have deviations from the path. It has trouble trying to decide whether is wants to be purely comical or to incorporate more drama into it. It's obvious though that this anime, though it sometimes tries to have serious overtones, cannot manage it because of the sheer amount of energy and vitality it has in it, all big and bouncy. Just like Forte's breasts.
CHICKS!: Hmm, it's an odd mix of big breasts and impossibly cute eyes which make up the group. Each of them has a perfect figure, but for most of them it's their personality which lets them down.
Overall: Galaxy Angel is a riotous blast of a ride, with the usual comedic formula with a little extra fun added to the mix for good measure, which ends up being fun and quirky. While easy to compare perhaps to anime like DiGi Charat, it is completely different in its scope and ideas.
Note from Black Seventeen: Having seen up through the middle of Season 4 of this series, I can safely say that the subsequent seasons are largely composed of more of the same. Given the show's highly episodic nature, this review will serve to encompass all of Galaxy Angel that has been released up to this point, as well as, hopefully, subsequent episodes that may (again hopefully) be released.
