	A new series . . . haha. Okay, it’s not funny.
And, Serena is pretty bad at school in this story, but she is GOOD at
sports, though. So I guess that makes it even.
Oh, when the story talks about Darien, it is always from his own point
of view, with Serena, the third person's point of view, okay? Okay.

Chapter one

I felt her even before I saw her.
See, when I walked in the school door just then, something made
me turn toward the lockers by my left, and when I did, I saw her. The girl with
the shiny blonde hair.
I’ll start from the beginning. When I woke up this morning, I got
this incredible feeling. A feeling that said, “You’re going to see someone special
today.” And throughout the whole morning, that feeling stayed with me.
It was a whole new year. I was a senior. A pretty popular one, I
might say, and I was ready for anything. But that feeling got to me . . .whom
was I going to see? Would I know that it’s that someone when I actually see that
person?
All questions were answered when I walked in the school front door.
I don’t know what it was, but something . . .something was pulling me toward
the direction to my left, so I looked. And saw her.
Don’t get me wrong, I have no idea who she was. I never saw her
around school before, maybe she was a new student, but she was absolutely
beautiful. The girl was wearing two shiny, blonde “meatballs” of hair on her
head, and had on a tight blue shirt, with baggy khaki pants. She was trying to
open a locker, and I got a good look at her face. Big sparkling blue eyes, small
pink lips, and smooth skin, I could tell, no dots whatsoever. Man, I was drawn
to her.
I started to walk toward her.
Suddenly, someone called me. I turned around in frustration. It
was my best buddy, Andrew. I let out a blow of air, just so I wouldn’t take it
out on the friend I hadn’t seen since the end of school year.
“Hey, man . . .long time no see.” Andrew said, while giving me a pat
on the shoulder.
I gave him a half-smile. “You were the one who went away for the
whole summer. You could have called.” Andrew went to his grandma & grandpa’s
house for about three months, and didn’t even write or call. But, I really didn’t
care right then, I wanted to talk to that beautiful blonde. “Andrew, I ---,”
“Man, my grandma cooks good!” Andrew interrupted, “I love her
cooking so much! I ate so much food everyday. They were absolutely delicious!”
Then Andrew went on and on about what kind of food his grandma cooked, and I
was half-listening.
Finally, I interrupted him. “Hey, Andy, I got to go. Tell me about
your adventures later, okay?”
Andrew looked puzzled, then grinned. “Sure! Don’t want to take the
big man’s time! See ya!” He walked away, that grin never died.
I nodded, and then turned toward the lockers where I saw her just then.
But she was gone. I sighed. Oh, well. At least there’s a whole year for me
to get to know her.

Serena held her schedule, her heart pounding. She was a sophomore
in High School now. She couldn’t believe it, with her grades, she couldn’t believe
that she actually made it out of the first year. “And yet, Mom and Dad decided
to move me to a whole new school.” Serena looked behind the windows, taking
in the tall buildings. “This school is just so big!” She was suddenly pushed by
someone, and she stumbled forward.
“Sorry.” A grouchy, male voice said behind her.
Serena watched as the big guy strolled across the hall. She sighed
to herself. She was going to have a hard time adjusting to the new school.
		“Ms. Tsukino?”
Serena almost jumped. She found Mrs. Hale, the school’s principal,
looking at her. “Yes, Mrs. Hale.”
The old woman smiled as Serena through her glasses. “Do you know your
way around? I mean, can you find your rooms and such?”
For a minute Serena thought about telling Mrs. Hale Yes, she was fine,
but Serena hesitated. She didn’t know how to get to her first period class . . .
she had no any idea where room 132 was . . .she didn’t even know where was the
bathroom! Serena took a deep breath, and spoke. “No, Mrs. Hale. I don’t even
know where the bathroom is.” Then she flushed. Had she just said that? That she
didn’t know where the bathroom was? How many people actually heard her saying
that? Serena lowered her eyes, feeling very sheepish.
Mrs. Hale laughed. It was a gentle laugh, not a derisive one.
“Then I guess I’d better find someone to help you. I would, myself, but I’m busy.
I’ll try to find a student or something . . . . . .what’s your first period’s
room number?”
“132.” Serena answered, smiling back. Maybe Serena could make friends
with the person who was going to help her.
“You go straight down the hallway, find the green drinking fountain,
and room 132 should be either to the left of it, or to the right.” Mrs. Hale
told Serena, while gesturing with her hands.
Serena breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Mrs. Hale! At least
now I can get to first period!” She clutched her notebook to her chest.
“Thank you!”
Mrs. Hale nodded and smiled. “Of course, hon.” She walked off,
leaving a smell of mint behind.
Serena leaned against the lockers behind her. “Now I just need to
know how I can go to the bathroom.”

“Darien! Hey, man.” My old buddy Josh called out.
I grinned and knocked fists with him. “Hey, how are you doing?”
“I’m pretty fine . . .I got a babe this summer! A college girl!” Josh
exclaimed. He was grinning ear to ear, and he was all flushed.
I rolled my eyes. “Did you lie about your age again?”
“Hey, it’s not my fault that I look like I’m 19 or something!” Josh
said to me, while putting on a defensive look.
I put up my hands. Josh. . .always snatching up girls.
“Speaking of girls . . .have you set eyes on one lately?” Josh asked,
giving me a mischievous look.
I thought about that beautiful blonde girl I saw earlier today, and
nodded my head. “But I don’t know her that well.” That was soooo true.
“There’s always time to get to know her. So, tell me, what’s she
like?” Josh put an arm around me, getting curious.
He was always curious when it came to girls. “Well . . .” I began,
trying to picture her in my mind again, “she’s got shiny blonde hair . . .big,
gorgeous blue eyes. Absolutely smooth skin . . . . . .” I trailed off, realizing
that Josh was giving me THAT look again. I sighed, “What?”
“Sounds so like your perfect dream girl.” Josh told me, while
putting the back of his right hand by his forehead, a dreamy look on his face.
I laughed, and slapped his arm. “Wake up! Anyway . . .I don’t even
know her--I never saw her around before. Maybe she just moved here or
something.”
Josh shrugged. He looked around the basketball court. “You up
for some shooting?”
I grinned. “Always ready.” I grabbed a basketball from the basket
by the court, and wrote down my name on the pad. I bounced it couple of times, and
aimed. It went straight into the net.
“Lucky shot. You’ve been practicing all summer, I bet.” Josh said,
while extending his hands toward me, meaning give-me-the-ball.
I threw the ball to him. “Nah. . .I didn’t even get ten feet within
a basketball court.” I shifted my weight from left foot to right.
Josh made a three-point shot. “You are joking, right? I practiced
almost every other day.” He turned to stare at me.
I ran to get the basketball. “So you are ready to beat me?”
Josh laughed. “I was ready to beat you a long time ago.”
I grinned at him, while making a basket from the free throw line.
“That would be just a little bit at the impossible level. Give it up, you will
never beat me.”
“Ha. Somebody’s not being modest here.”
I grinned again, giving him the basketball. Okay, okay, I liked to
brag . . .but I WAS really good at basketball. It was my sport.
Then, suddenly, something caught my eye. Something blue swooshed
behind the basket. I squinted my eyes to see better . . .and completely lost my
breath. It was her! That blonde girl! I was about to walk up to her, when I
realized that I was in the middle of a basketball shooting, and couldn’t leave.
Josh wasn’t the kind of person who would forget it when you walk out on him. I
sighed. Why was it every time that I saw her, I couldn’t go to her?
“Hey, Darien! Buddy, you there? It’s your turn!” Josh shouted,
snapping me back to reality.
I cleared my throat, feeling sorta embarrassed. “Yeah, yeah, I know.
Hand me the ball.” I caught the basketball, and made a perfect angle shot. I
couldn’t help but stole another look at that girl . . .and realized she was
glancing this way. Right at me. I swallowed, and blushed. I turned away suddenly,
hoping that she didn’t catch how sheepish I looked. It would wreck everything
if the hot girl noticed me . . .and thought that I was a total dork who kept
staring at her.

“Whoa. That guy was hot.” Serena whispered to herself, as she hugged
her books to her chest. “More importantly . . .he was staring at ME.” She
sighed to herself, “exactly the moment I was gawking at him . . .oh, god, it’s
no wonder he turned away.” Serena shook her head. “A guy that hot can never
look at me . . .he must have been looking at something behind me.” Serena
continued to walk.
		“Serena, wait up!”
Serena turned around, confused. She didn’t know anyone at this
school. Who would be calling her? Serena saw a black-haired girl half-running,
half-walking toward her. She stood, having no idea what to do. Was she suppose to
recognize this girl?
The black-haired stopped in front of Serena. She laughed at the
expression on Serena’s face. “Oh, don’t look so confused. I’m Raye . . .Mrs. Hale
asked me to help you adjust to the school.”
Serena broke into a smile. “Hi.”
Raye smiled back. “Hi. So . . .you already made it through three
periods, so that means you have no problem finding the classrooms . . .right?”
Serena nodded. “I figured out the pattern. But right now,” she put
on a apologetic smile, “I need you to help me to get to the restroom.”
Raye laughed softly. “Yeah, I thought so. Come on.” She put an arm
around Serena, and led her toward the buildings. “There are at least, like eight
bathrooms in this school, that I know of. I’m sure that there are many more,
since this is so big.”
“Hmm.” Serena replied. Raye seemed friendly enough. This day was
getting better . . .she was making a new friend. Serena grinned secretly.
“Man. . .even the bathroom is big.” Serena whispered, as she and Raye
walked out of it some while later.
Raye laughed beside her. “I take it your old school was really small.”
Serena nodded. She looked at her watch. “How long is recess?”
“Twenty five minutes.” Raye answered. “Don’t worry, it’s not time yet.”
Serena smiled. “I’m being really boring, huh?” She hoped not. She
definitely didn’t want her first soon-to-be-friend to think that she was dull.
“No. Not at all.” Raye grinned at her, taking her arm. “Come on, let’s
go to the basketball courts. I’ll introduce you to my best friends.”
“Okay.” Serena answered, couldn’t help but feeling a little hope in
her chest. “You have no idea how having friends means to me.”
“I think I have a pretty good idea.” Raye said softly, and Serena
thought she saw a flash of sadness across Raye’s face. Then she smiled. “Come on,
Serena.”
Serena followed Raye, feeling uneasy and curious. Then she lifted
her head when they were out on the ground again. . .and caught that gorgeous
guy shooting a three-pointer. She stopped suddenly, causing Raye to turn around.
“What?” Raye asked, looking toward the direction Serena was staring
at, and grinned. “So. . .you already noticed two of the school’s most gorgeous
boys? So who is it, Darien or Josh?”
“Darien--Josh? Which one’s which?” Serena asked, not taking her eyes
off of him. God, he was so cute.
“Well,” Raye began, pointing with a finger, “that guy wearing the
black sleeveless shirt and white pants, with blondish hair is Josh. And that
guy--wearing a tight white shirt and dark blue jeans, with that shiny black hair
is Darien. Which is it?”
Serena grinned. “It’s Darien, all right.”
“He is gorgeous. But. . .Serena, we don’t have a chance.” Raye said
to Serena, putting an arm on her shoulder. She gave Serena a crocked smile.
		Serena turned to her. “Huh?”
“I mean, last year, when I was a freshman, and he was in junior, he
dated girls in the senior year. . .” Raye looked at Serena seriously, “so don’t
fall in too much love with him.”
Serena laughed quietly. “Who said I was in love with him? I just
glanced at him when I was walking by, and I just think he’s cute, that’s all.”
Serena said warily.
“Oh, come on. . .he’s not cute. . .he’s absolutely gorgeous! HOT!”
Raye exclaimed, raising an eyebrow at Serena.
“Yeah. . .didn’t I just say that?” Serena asked, pretending to be
offended.
Raye pushed her a little, laughing. “Come on.” Raye saw something,
and waved. She said to Serena, “There are my three best friends.”
Serena glanced in the direction Raye was pointing at. The three girls
were standing together, smiles on their faces when they saw Raye. Serena studied
each girl as she got closer. The tallest one was a brunette, her hair tied up in a
ponytail. Serena noticed her rose earrings, and looked at them admiringly.
“Everyone, this is Serena, my--OUR new friend. Serena, this is Lita.”
Raye said, pointing toward the brunette Serena was looking at.
Serena felt great hearing Raye saying that she was their friend.
Lita grinned at Serena. “Hey, blondie.”
		Serena smiled back uncomfortably. Blondie?
“Don’t get the wrong idea, she’s absolutely NOT making fun of you
because you are blonde. . .she’d better not be.” A girl with pale hair a shade
lighter than Serena’s said, and winked. “Hi, I’m Mina.”
Serena flashed Mina a smile back. “Hi.”
“This is Amy . . .the quietest and smartest.” Raye said, gesturing
to a girl with hair that looked blue.
Amy waved her hand a little at Serena. “Glad to meet you, Serena.
Don’t get Raye wrong, though. . .everybody is smart here. ” She tossed a look at
Mina, then added with a sparkle in her eyes, “in their own ways.”
Serena smiled, “Hi Amy. . .hi EVERYONE.” She looked around the
four friends. They were all so friendly that Serena couldn’t believe it. At
her old crowd, no one would have approached a new girl that welcoming.
“How do you like our school so far? Good, bad, okay?” Lita asked,
as she looked at Serena with interest.
“Well. . .to tell you the truth, I’m having a hard time adjusting
to it. I mean, new people and all. Before meeting you guys, I didn’t even have
anyone to talk to. . .except that boring old Mrs. Hale.” Serena almost kicked
herself. They must think that she was impolite now.
“Tell me about it!” Raye exclaimed, surprising Serena. “Whenever she
sees us, she keep on asking questions like, ‘How are you doing in school so far?
Getting As and Bs?’ It’s so annoying!”
“Yeah, sometimes I just. . .” Amy grinned sheepishly, “Feel like
strangling her.” She finished with a slight hesitation. She looked at her around
suddenly, just to check if Mrs. Hale was nearby.
Mina laughed. “Boy, you guys all don’t like her, huh? But, maybe she
has a fun side, but just can’t express it in school.” She said awkwardly.
The four of them stared at each other, “As if.” They said in unison,
then burst into laughter after looking at each other’s expressions.
Serena shifted in her position uncomfortably. She didn’t fit in
with these friends. Clearly they were the best of best friends in the world, and
she. . .she didn’t even know when to talk. Serena groaned inside. *Why did Mom and
Dad even decided to move?*
Raye stopped laughing and looked at Serena. She instantly apologized.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Serena, bet you think we are neglecting you now, huh?”
“No!” Serena quickly shook her head, feeling weird that Raye read her
expression so correctly. “No, of course not.” She said again.
“It’s too bad you don’t know Mrs. Hale that long. But, don’t worry,
you’ll dislike her more and more as you DO get to know her.” Mina said, smiling
mischievously.
Amy nodded. She looked at the people running around her. “You guys
feel like playing something?”
That got Serena’s interest. “Like what?”
Lita shrugged. “Some basketball, maybe?” she suggested, putting on an
“anything” look. Serena could tell they were usually active.
“You guys go ahead, I don’t want to play.” Amy said, taking a step
backwards and clutched the book in front of her chest.
Serena stared at her. “Why? You don’t like basketball or something?”
“Amy here thinks reading a book is much more important than running
around, bouncing some ball.” Raye elbowed Serena with a smile. “Come on, you guys,
let’s go to an empty court.”
Serena smiled and followed Raye, she could only follow--she had no
idea where things were around here.
Then, as if fate was doing this, she saw him again. Instantly Serena’s
heart hammered against her chest. She looked at Raye, hoping that she was going
to choose the half court next to Darien’s. She did, and Serena couldn’t help but
grin. Raye wrote down her name on a yellow pad, and picked up a basketball from the
brass basket. She smiled at her friends, and walked toward the court.
Serena tossed a glance at Darien and Josh. They were involved in a
one-on-one game. She stared at Darien’s back, taking in the broad shoulders.
		“Serena?”
Serena whirled around, alarmed by the sound of her name. “What?”
Mina grinned knowingly. “You were off to Mars right then. . .staring
at Darien, I presume?”
“How--” Serena began, shooting Raye a puzzled look. Raye told her friends?
When? Serena felt sheepish standing right there, four girls staring and smiling
at her.
“I could tell. I’m just surprised that you noticed Darien so quickly.
I mean, you don’t have any classes with him and--Serena, you do know that he’s a
senior, right?” Mina asked suddenly, the smile on her face gone.
“I know, I know.” Serena nodded, “You don’t need to worry about me,
I’m just going to look and admire him. . . . . .from a far distance.” She added
with a smile.
“Who knows? A girl as pretty as you might have a chance with him
someday.” Raye said, making a basket. She got the ball back, and handed it to Lita.
Serena stared as Lita aimed for the net. Did she have a chance with
him? Then, as she shot another look at Raye, Serena shook her head. She could
never have a chance with a guy like Darien. “Can I have a shot?” she asked,
while walking up to Lita.

“I think you have yet made another admirer, Darien.” Josh said to me,
glancing behind me for some reason.
My eyebrows shot up. “Who?” I asked, getting interested.
“Some blonde girl, playing with three friends on the half court behind
us.” Josh replied, bouncing the basketball as he turned around and made a shot.
I turned around, curious to see who was staring at me. I caught my
breath when I saw that one of the blonde girls was the girl I saw
earlier. “I see two blondes, Josh, which one was it?” I asked, getting impatient.
“The one with the meatballs hair.” Josh answered with an easy grin.
“The meatballs hair?” I repeated, and my pulse began to race. Her! She
was staring at me? But wait. Maybe she was staring at me because she thought I
was a jerk. I walked toward Josh, asking, “Was she staring at me with admire or
disgust?”
Josh raised an eyebrow. “I couldn’t see that clearly. You interested
in her or something?” he asked loudly.
		“No-yes. I mean, maybe. . .look, I don’t know, okay? She’s the
blonde girl I told you about.” I told him, careful to make my voice low.
“She is?” Josh gasped, his eyes widening.
“Say any louder and the whole school can hear you.” I said
sarcastically as I grabbed the basketball from him. Boy. Sometimes Josh can be
so insensitive. But then again, he was a guy. . .I can only expect sensitivity
from girls.
“Sorry.” Josh apologized, lowering his voice. He tossed a look
behind me. “She IS beautiful, man, good choice.” He said, giving me a push by
the shoulder.
I grinned. What could I say? In my happy mood, I made a perfect
three point shot. Wonder what was that girl’s name . . .

“Has it passed twenty five minutes?” Serena asked, getting tired,
“I feel like we’ve been playing forever.” She wiped some sweat from her forehead.
Raye laughed. “Get use to it. Recess seems long here, but it’s not
THAT long. Wanna take a break?”
Mina nodded. “Definitely. I need to cool down.”
Then, the end recess bell rang.
Serena laughed. “Thank you, bell!” she exclaimed, extending her arms
toward the direction of the bells. She looked at her new friends, and flashed
them a big smile. “Well, what do you guys have fourth period with?” she asked
as they started walking back.
“I have Math.” Mina answered with a slight unhappiness. “And I
absolutely dread the boring class. The teacher, Mr. Morris, is really tough--we
have to write essays in class! Imagine that, writing essays in MATH class!” she
cried, shaking her head.
“Well, I have Language. . .and I love it.” Amy answered simply.
“Science for me. . .it’s so weird that we don’t have any classes
together, huh?” Lita answered, putting on a puzzled look. She blew her bangs
away from her eyes.
Raye looked at Serena, hopefulness in her eyes. “What do you have
for fourth period? You know now how to read the schedule card, right?”
Serena answered with a grin, “Yeah, I do now, thanks to you. And,
um, I think I have Science. . .” She looked at Lita, “who do you have?”
		“Ms. Purril.” Lita replied.
Serena’s shoulders dropped. “We don’t have the same teacher. . .I
have some teacher named Mrs. Haberson.”
Raye put a hand on Serena’s shoulder. She got a big, open smile on
her face. “Guess what? We are in the same fourth period class!”
Serena almost screamed. Thank God. At least now she had someone
to talk to in class, instead of just sitting by herself at the corner, feeling
alone. “That is so fantastic. . .” she said, trailing off.
“Yeah.” Raye answered as her smile widened. She put an arm around
Serena, and looked at Amy, Lita, and Mina. “I guess I’m the lucky one.”
Mina pouted when the reached the building door. She put her hand on
the handle and pushed open it. “I want to say not fair, but I won’t. See you
guys later, at lunchtime.” She said as she turned to the left. “Amy, your class
is this way, too, remember?”
“Oh, yeah! The summer made me forget things.” Amy answered as she
gave Mina an apologetic grin. She walked off with her, waving a little to Raye,
Serena, and Lita. “Bye.”
Lita turned toward Serena. “I really hope we at least have SOME
classes together. I like you a lot, Serena.” She stated, smiling.
Serena grinned back at her. “You have no idea how much I love hearing
that. Where’s your fourth period?”
Lita pointed toward the upper floor. “Far away from here.” She said
sarcastically. Then she smiled and gave both Serena and Raye a small hug, then
hurried upstairs.
Raye pulled Serena’s hand. “Come on, Room 212 is this way.” She
said as they walked toward their right.
“I need to get to my locker first. I have my backpacks and stuff
in there.” Serena suddenly said, realizing. She looked at Raye.
“Don’t worry. Teachers usually come late after recesses--it was
always like that, I don’t know why. I’ll go with you.” Raye said, allowing
Serena to lead.
Serena looked around, searching for the familiar clock that led to
her locker. “There it is.” She muttered to herself when she spotted it. “Come
on.” Serena quickly got to it. She pointed with a finger, “That’s my locker.
It took me so long to find it this morning!” she told Raye, while working on
the combinations.
Raye laughed. “It is hard looking for yours when there are hundreds
surrounding you. I totally understand.” She said, while smoothing down her
hair with one hand.
“Don’t you need your backpack?” Serena asked when she popped open
the locker door. She pulled out her backpack and science book.
“I already put it in fourth period class before I went off to
find you.” Raye replied casually. She smiled at Serena. “Should have thought of
that one, huh?”
“Definitely. Unfortunately I didn’t even know WHERE my fourth
period room was, so. . .” Serena trailed off when she turned around. . .she was
looking right into the midnight blue eyes of Darien Chiba. He was just a few feet
away, leaning against some locker, and he was STARING AT HER. Serena couldn’t
breath for a moment, she clutched the strap of her backpack.
Suddenly his lips stretched into a perfect smile, right at Serena.
She gaped at him for a few more seconds, then found herself smiling
back. She felt a hand on her arm. Serena broke her gaze away from Darien, alarmed.
“When I said that teachers come late, I meant that they DO come,
though. Come on, Serena.” Raye said, giving her friend a sly smile as she pulled
her away.
Serena tossed one last look in Darien’s direction, but he wasn’t
there anymore. She sighed. He only smiled and looked at her, and she was already
warm all over. What will she do when he tried to talk to her? Melt? Serena
pushed away these thoughts, and concentrated on walking toward fourth period.
But then, when they reached the second floor, Serena’s mind drifted
off to Darien again. Hey, she was not ever going to go out with him or anything,
so why couldn’t she think about him?
*Why do we always meet at the strangest time?* Serena thought to herself.

“You know what, Raye,” Serena said as they walked out of room 212
together, “I think I’m beginning to like science.”
Raye smiled at her words. “Yeah. Mr. Kove is so much fun, isn’t he? I
heard a lot about him last year. . .” she stepped aside as she let a tall guy
pass by. Raye gave Serena nudge, “You do know that when a guy like that goes by,
you have to step aside, right?”
“I definitely know that. From experience, in fact.” Serena said, as
she recalled the incidence she had just that morning. She looked at her watch,
“how much time do we have for lunch?”
		“Guess.”
“Forty-five minutes? That’s how long my old school’s lunch is.”
Serena replied, staring at Raye in puzzlement. She also took notice of some skinny
as bones girls when they walked in the busy hallway.
“Here, lunch is an hour.” Raye answered with a smile. “Pretty
long. . .but that only depends on what you are doing at that time. You like what
you are doing, it seems short, you hate what you are doing, it seems looooong.”
Serena laughed a little. She glanced at a brown haired girl that was
passing by. “Raye? Do you think I look fat?” she asked in a little voice.
Raye stopped dead in her tracks as she turned to face Serena, her
eyes wide. “You? Fat? Those two words don’t even belong in the same sentence.”
She answered straightforwardly.
“But compare to THOSE girls,” Serena motioned with her hands, “I feel
like a pig. What size are they?”
“Ugh, those girls are not healthy. They starve themselves to death
just because they want guys to notice them. I don’t ever want to do that.” Raye
shook her head. They stopped by her locker, and Raye managed on the lock.
Serena sighed. “I eat like a pig, I’m ashamed to admit, though. It’s
a wonder I hardly gain any pounds.” She watched as Raye shoved her backpack
inside the locker, and taking out some money.
Raye studied Serena up and down. “A miracle.” She replied with a grin.
“I wish I had a body like you. . .and hair like you. . .and eyes like you. . .”
“You know what’s so funny, though? When I first saw you, I wanted a
body like YOU, hair like YOU, and eyes like YOU!” Serena exclaimed, bursting
into laughter.
Raye shot Serena a puzzled look, hitting her playfully on the
shoulder.
They walked passed the main playground, and walked in the cafeteria.
Raye gasped slightly when she saw the food. “So less to choose
from today. . .what are you going to buy?”
Serena took a nice long look at the choices. “Honestly, I don’t know.
What do you recommend? I’ll take anything that you think is good.”
“Well. . .I definitely will choose that hot, steaming mashed potatoes
if I were you. . .” Raye began, pointing with her left index finger when she
introduced each food.
Serena listened for a moment, then heard something crash from behind
her. She whirled around, prepared to call out for help any minute. She saw a
skinny little boy wearing large glasses on the floor, around him were some kind
of liquid--soda, Serena guessed, and there were food everywhere. Then she heard a
snicker, and when Serena lifted her gaze, she saw a guy starting to laugh. The
skinny little guy on the floor stared furiously at the laughing young man. “He’s
the one who made him fall, I presume.” Serena muttered to herself, feeling anger
welling up inside her.
Raye stepped up beside her. She huffed. “I hate it when bigger guys
pick on smaller ones.”
“I think that skinny boy is in his freshman year.” Serena looked at
him in sympathy, then frowned. “I’m going to teach those guys a lesson.” She then
stormed off toward them.
“A lesson?” Raye repeated, following her, not quite sure she heard
right. “Are you crazy? He is going to be f-u-r-i-o-u-s!”
“I don’t care.” Serena glanced at Raye, still hurrying, and when she
got near the table, she screeched to a halt. “Why do you people like making fun
of others?” she asked, glaring at the big jock.
The boy on the floor looked at Serena in surprise. The big guy rose
up from his seats and stood face-to-face with Serena. He was a whole ten inches
taller. “What did you say?”
“I said why do you like making fun of other people? Like the little
guy right here?” Serena asked again, pointing with her index finger. “Who do you
think you are?”
The guy was really astonished, anyone could tell. Apparently, no one
ever confronted him like that. “Rod. Who are you?”
“Like I would tell you my name. Anyway, ROD, it’s not nice when you
do things like what you just did by tripping the poor boy. And I don’t think
anyone else, except you, think that was funny, either. So why don’t you do all
of us a favor and stop doing these childish things? It doesn’t make you seem
higher, it makes you seem lower.” Serena gave him one last glare, and then stomped
away, with Raye following her in shock.

Rod stared after Serena, completely dumbfounded. He slowly sat down
on his chair with a thump, still thinking about what she just said to him. “Man.
Some girl.” He muttered to himself with a secret grin.

Well, I was surprised. That girl. . .wow. I looked at Rod, he looked
like he was thinking about something. Oh, boy, I hope he was not thinking about
how he could make a fool out of Serena later. I’d better go over there.
“So. . .buddy, how you feeling?” I asked as I sat down beside him.
He didn’t look that angry.
Rod glanced at me and half-smiled. “Hey, Darien. You saw the whole
thing?”
“Not only me. I think everyone in the cafeteria heard it. You feel
like killing her?” I asked teasingly, but also warily. If Rod were, then I’d
have to say something good about Serena. . . I could list about ten of them right now.
Easily.
“No. . .I don’t. She’s got some nerve, going up to me like
that. . .and you know what, Dare? I actually liked that. No one had ever done that
before. It’s cool.” Rod answered after a slight moment of thinking.
I stared at him in surprise as I snapped out of my thoughts. “What?” I
had to get some hearing aids, Rod didn’t say what I thought he said, right?
“Yeah, I mean. . .” Rod paused, “no one, ever, had ever do such a
thing like that to me before. This is the first time, you know, and. . .I don’t
know why, but I’m not angry.” Rod told Darien, smirking as he glanced at the
cafeteria door where Serena just stormed out a moment ago.
I laughed, relieved. “Good.” I mumbled softly. That blonde girl sure
was something. . .even Rod didn’t want to do anything to her. Man, I’ve got to
talk to her.

“Serena, wait up! Don’t walk so fast!” Raye exclaimed, half-running.
She caught up and held Serena to stop her from walking again.
Serena turned around, giving Raye an apologetic smile. “Sorry. I was
just so mad, and so surprised that I actually did that.” She said in an
astonished voice.
“Me, too. I think you were the first one.” Raye replied, giving Serena
a little hug, “and I’m so glad! A jerk like that needs to have some yelling.”
“Was I too mean, though? I mean, I don’t even know him that well. I
just saw this guy on the floor, and him laughing, then I just assumed--”
“Serena, please. You did absolutely the right thing, trust me.” Raye
said reassuringly. “But I gotta admit, you have some nerve!”
“How many people you think saw the whole thing?”
“Mostly everyone.” Raye answered as she studied Serena’s weird
expression. “What?”
“Darien--he was there. . .I saw him. . .oh, no. He must think I’m real
tough and mean now. . . . . .” Serena gasped. She groaned as she leaned against
the pole near the cafeteria window.
Raye smiled slyly. “Aaaah. . .so what, you are now worried what
Darien thinks? Boy, you’ve got it bad.” She answered a bit in exaggeration.
Serena nudged her with her body. “Raye. . .” she was smiling outside,
but she was worrying inside. A jock like Rod MUST be friends with Darien, and
if Darien saw, then he would be protective of his friend, and if he was
protective, then. . . . . .she sighed dramatically.
“What’s wrong?” Raye asked, concerned about her friend. “You are not
seriously in--”
“Aaaaugh!” Serena exclaimed, interrupting Raye. “I don’t want to hear
that word. I’m not, okay? I just. . .he’s cute, and. . .I don’t want to appear too,
WEIRD right now, in case something happens in the future.” She said with an
added smile, “You never know.”
Raye nodded, grinning from ear to ear. “I understand. I understand
COMPLETELY.” She emphasized on the last word. Serena smiled at her and shrugged.

“What do you think???” Serena asked on Saturday, trying to read what was on her
friends’ faces. She bit her lip nervously. She had on a red and white spaghetti
strips tank top, and a black denim miniskirt, that, to Serena’s eyes, was way too
short. Those, adding the flashy silver necklace, the two dangling star earrings,
plus a touch of makeup. . .
Lita studied Serena up and down. “You look. . .” she began seriously.
“Absolutely. . .” Mina continued, a smile spreading across her face.
“Alluring!” Raye finished with a big grin. Then they all broke
into smiles.
“Alluring?” Serena repeated, relieved. She glanced at herself in the
mirror. “I feel like I have. . .no. . .clothes on.” She looked deeper into
herself. “Look, the strips make my arms look fat, and it shows my belly. . . . . .”
“Serena!” Amy exclaimed suddenly in a loud voice, throwing her hands
in the air. “Stop! You look absolutely gorgeous in that outfit! Don’t have any
doubts. . .anyway, tell me, do you plan to wear it to school?” she asked in a
curious voice, getting a wicked smile on her face.
“Yeah, Serena! You called us over saying Raye was here and such, now
that we expressed our opinions about your outfit, can you tell us whether or not
you want to wear it to school on Monday?” Mina asked, standing up from the bed,
and stood in front of Serena. She pushed a strand of blonde hair from Serena’s
eyes, smiling in a questioning way.
“Well. . .” Serena turned around so she was facing all four of them.
“I guess. . .Raye and I were talking about how I appear so shy to people, and
she said that to look daring, I have to dress. . .this way.” She used her hands
to gesture the outfit again.
“Shy? What about the way you stood up to that big Rod? That was
daring, wasn’t it?” Lita asked, glancing at Raye. She put her head on Serena’s
big, fluffy pillow, closing her eyes for a moment.
“Yeah, Serena! It was so cool, how you said all those things to Rod
in front of everyone! Do you know we’ve been craving to do it for a long time but
haven’t find the nerve?” Amy toyed with a stuffed animal that was on Serena’s
nightstand.
Serena smiled. “It was really nothing. I-I just can’t believe, either,
that I actually said all those things to the big, tall guy just because. . .because
he bumped into me one time, and made that skinny guy fall.” She smoothed down the
shirt from her stomach, turning back toward the mirror again.
“Okay, let’s not get off the subject here.” Raye said immediately,
giving everyone a “be quiet” glance. She looked at Serena. “I don’t care what you say,
Serena, you are going to wear that outfit on Monday, I’m going to make sure of it.”
Serena raised an eyebrow, staring suspiciously at Raye. “And how are
you going to make sure?”
“By taking away all of your other clothes, what else?” Raye replied
casually, seriously. She stared at Serena carelessly.
The others laughed when they saw Serena’s horrified expression. Raye
laughed, too, after she held it for a minute or so. “Oh, Serena. . .you thought I
was serious or something? I was only kidding!”
Serena sighed in relieve silently to herself. Ha ha.

Monday mornings. I hate Mondays. Mostly because I’ve adjusted to
Saturday and Sunday’s late sleeps.
I yawned as I dragged myself to my locker. I noticed a couple of girls
staring at me as I went by. No matter how bad I looked, there were always some
admirers. Speaking of which. . .I felt her again. That blonde girl, I got a
a feeling she was nearby somewhere. My heart sped up in excitement. I had to
talk to her this time, that was for sure.
“Boy, someone look messed up today. . .if I weren’t a guy, though, I
would think that you look TOTALLY GORGEOUS.” Andrew dragged out the last two words
in a way that was funny yet nerving.
I nodded to him. “Hey. My hair’s all messed up again?”
“Yep. It has always been like this on Monday mornings. . .what is it
about them? You don’t comb your hair on a morning like this or something? A kind
of pattern? Is there a secret to it?” Andrew asked, in a mischievous yet curious
way. He getting all personal again.
I didn’t like personal questions. I especially hated it when someone
mentions the word “secret”. I just wanted to hang out with my friends normally
without them asking any question about my life. Life reminded me of my parents,
which reminded me of their deaths. . .I sighed in frustration. That was always
what happened when someone brought up a personal question, even the tiniest
little ones.
“Hey, Dare, you okay?” Andrew asked, the teasing smile gone off his
face. He looked at me.
I managed a small smile at him. “I’m fine.”
Andrew nodded. “Oh, hey, did you see Serena this morning? She looks
totally hot!”
“Serena?” I repeated, trying to remember who she was, but couldn’t.
“Who’s Serena?”
“The new sophomore girl at school. You heard of the girl that confronted
Rod the other day in the cafeteria?” Andrew said, stirring up my memory.
HER! Andrew was talking about the blonde girl! I tried to act cool.
“What’s her name again?”
		“Serena.”
Serena. What a beautiful name. Sounded so innocent and sweet. “What
was it you were saying, something about her looking hot?”
“She’s wearing this outfit today that caught almost every guy in the
school’s eye. You’ve gotta check it out. I need to run, though, I have to give
some papers to my language teacher. See ya.” Andrew hurried off again, like always.
The thing about Andrew was that he always had something to do, and he
often left when I had about a million questions waiting to ask him. Like just now.
What was Serena wearing?
Just then, I heard some whooos coming from behind me. I turned around
and saw many astonished faces of boys. I shifted my gaze toward what they were
looking at and almost fainted.
		Serena was HOT.
