This is based mostly on Lita (Makoto AKA Sailor Jupiter) and

PAST LIVES 3
Trust, Love, Greed, Deciet
BY LADY JUPITER (LADYJUPITER@SAILORJUPITER.COM)
Queen Jupiter took a deep breath, "It's true. Your biological
father is not King Jupiter. Your biological father is dead."
"Mother! Who is it?" Makoto demanded.
"His name is...was Murawa Jade," Queen Jupiter said. She
half expected lighting to strike through the windows.
"You had another husband?" Mako asked.
"No...I guess I should tell you the whole story. You have to
promise you that none of this goes out." Queen Jupiter said.
"Keep it hidden? Like a bad thing? Why?"
"It won't be good for the royal family if this goes out,"
Queen Jupiter replied.
"Everyone has skeletons in their closet, dirt under their
rugs," Mako said.
"Promise me you'll keep it a secret, Mako." Queen Jupiter
pleaded.
"What?! You aren't even telling me what this big secret
is!" Mako was getting frustrated.
"Okay, this is the whole story," Queen Jupiter forced
herself to remeber, "When we were small, when I was just a
teenager, I was friends with your father the King and his best
friend: Murawa Jade. I fell in love with Murawa. Your father,
who was the prince back then was one of my close friends. Murawa
was Knight back then. He was always coming and going this way
and that. Well, the night I turned nineteen, Murawa came and
visited me. He was suppose to be at a station, on the job. He
came to wish me a happy birthday. I was young and in love. He
stayed the whole night. In the morning he left to go back to
his station. A couple days later, I found out I was carrying you.
I told Zeus, the prince, your father right now the good news.
He promised to go personally and tell Murawa. He went all the way
to the station Murawa was stationed at. When Zeus got there,
the station was in ruins. Early in the morning, just about the
time Murawa arrived, a fleet of space pirates bombed and robbed
that station. Murawa was dead when Zeus got there." Queen Jupiter
was softly crying now.
"I-I-I was born out of wedlock?" Makoto stuttered.
"No, honey. Please don't think of it that way. You were
born out of love," Queen Jupiter hugged her daughter.
"What about dad?" Mako asked.
"Zeus? Zeus knew what kind of gossip and rumor would come
if anyone found out that I had Murawa's child and we weren't even
engaged. So Zeus, being the great friend he is, asked me to
marry him. I agreed because I loved him too, but a different kind
of love. I loved Zeus. He was my best friend. After we were
married, you were born. Every assumed you were Zeus's daughter
so we just let them think that. That's the whole story," Queen
Jupiter explained.
"I want to go visit my natural father's grave," Makoto
stated.
"Why?"
"To pay much owed respects," Mako said.
"Mako, you are such a good girl. Remember, no one shall
know this okay?" Queen Jupiter dried her tears.
"Why not? It's not a scandal or anything?" Mako said.
"Because it would mean that you are only half blood
royalty. There are a lot of people who would love to knock
you out of the running to become future ruler." Queen Jupiter
told her.
"I don't care about being ruler," Mako stated angrily.
"But you have to. You are heir to the next ruler. You'll
make a great ruler and I'll bet that the man you marry
will make a great king." Queen Jupiter smiled.
Mako couldn't help thinking of Shinosaki. What was he doing
right there that very moment? "Can you take me to his
grave?"
"Murawa's?"
"Yes."
"Let's go right now. It's been a long time since I've
been there, actually." Queen Jupiter admitted.
"How does dad feel about this?" Mako asked.
"He's adjusted to it. I love him too. Really, he thinks
of you as his own," Queen Jupiter said.
"Then why doesn't he trust me?" Mako asked.
"What did you tell him?"
"Shinosaki told me his dad wasn't right in the head anymore.
Judge Miyake is planning a conspiracy to take away dad's power
so he himself could be king. Shinosaki told me to warn dad."
Mako said.
"Oh," Queen Jupiter didn't look too surprised.
"Do you know about it?" Mako asked.
"I sensed it," Queen Jupiter admitted.
"Why didn't you tell dad? He'll have to believe the both
of us."
"No, he has to realize that by himself. If we actually do
convince him, he will spend the rest of his life wondering if
we were wrong. He has to find out for himself. He's wise,
he'll realize something is wrong with Judge Miyake eventually.
It's not easy for him. They've been friend for such a long time.
Your father is wise, but sometimes he can be stubborn, Mako.
You just have to let him think it out himself." Queen Jupiter
told her.
"What will happen to Judge Miyake when dad finds out that
he's not right in the head?" Mako asked.
"Your father will send him to a mental insitution to get
help. He's a good man. I'm just worried about Shinosaki.
Poor Shinosaki. How is he taking all of this? First he
loses his mother, now his father too?" Queen Jupiter sighed.
"Shinosaki blames himself," Mako told her mother.
Queen Jupiter turned and faced her daughter, "What?
Why does he blames himself? Tell him it isn't his fault.
Poor boy, having to take on so much."
"He thinks that his father turned that way because he
was away so often," Mako said.
Queen Jupiter told her daughter, "If anyone is at blame,
I would say it is Judge Miyake's own fault. For letting ideas
like that get into his head."
"I don't know. Maybe no one is at blame," Mako said.
"Yes, just like you, Mako. Not to lay the blame at anyone."
Queen Jupiter said. "Come dear. Let's go for a ride."
"Are we going to...Murawa's grave?" Mako didn't know what
to call her natural father. It didn't feel right to call him
father or dad, or any paternal name.
"Yes. Freshen up first. I'll go tell your father where
we are going," Queen Jupiter exited the room.
Mako didn't know how to freshen up. She changed into another
long gown, thinner and a lighter shade of green. She retied her
hair and put on a bow. *What does one wear to visit their
natural father, someone she does not even know, someone who
is dead?* Mako thought. She almost laughed, if she was in
the mood. It was ironic. Just a week ago, the biggest worry
she had was what if it rains the next day. It was like the
whole world turned over a new leaf. Makoto realized that the
world isn't full of fairies and happily ever afters.
"Mako? Are you ready? Patterson is waiting out front
with the horse and carraige." Queen Jupiter asked through the
door.
"Coming," Mako answered.
The two of them got onto the back seat of the emerald green
carraige. Two white horses pulled the front of it. A middle
age man held on to the reins infront of the carraige. They
started on there way with no fuss.
* * * * * * * * *
"This is as far as I can go, my Queen." Patterson stopped the
horses at the base of a hill.
"That's fine. You can wait here. We will walk our way
up," Queen Jupiter instructed.
Mako followed her mother out of the carraige. She saw the
hill they were suppose to walk up. A lone oak tree stood at the
top of the hill. Makoto could also see a grayish tombstone
in the shade of the oaktree. It was the only oaktree she could see.
"This hill is for Murawa," Queen Jupiter explained, reading
her daughter's thoughts. They were far enough from the carraige
driver to talk freely.
"What did dad say when you said we were coming here?" Mako
asked curiously.
"He said to tell Murawa he's sorry he couldn't come along
today. He's too busy." Queen Jupiter smiled.
"Who else knows about this?" Mako asked.
"No one else. Just me and your father. Can you keep it
that way?"
"I guess," Mako sighed. She hated keeping secrets. They
tear away at your heart until you wind up insane from too many
secrets.
"Good girl. I know you don't like keeping secrets, but
it's not really a secret. No one has even an idea of this." Queen
Jupiter tried to ease the burden.
They finally reached the tombstone at the way top of the hill.
Makoto could see it was well taken care of. Not a single blade
of grass covered any part of the tombstone.
Mako saw here mother smile at the tombstone, as if it were
a person. There were tears in the corners of her mother's eyes.
"Hello Murawa," Queen Jupiter said, "I'm sorry it took me
so long to visit. Did you miss me?"
Makoto saw here mother pause, as if actually waiting for
an answer. At any other time, she would think her mother really
lost it, but this time, it was understandable.
"I miss you. Zeus says hello. He couldn't come today,
there's a lot going on. A lot changed when you left." Queen
Jupiter urged her daughter forward and put an arm around Mako's
shoulders, "Her name is Makoto Kino. She's your daughter, Murawa.
She's all grown up. I'm sorry I never took her to see you before.
What do you think?
"I don't know what you're doing up there, but I hope you
meet someone you'll really love. Because I did. I know you're
happy for me. I married Zeus, your best friend. He says he
misses you. I hope one day we'll meet again. I won't say
goodbye because it means I'll never see you again. I'll just
say....I'll see you." Queen Jupiter smiled softly.
"Mom, can I stay here alone first? I have some things I
have to say." Mako asked.
"Sure hon, I'll wait for you in the carraige." Queen Jupiter
started walking down the hill.
Mako kneeled infront of the grave. She had so much to say,
but was there actually going to be someone on the other
end listening?
"Murawa...." Mako hesitated, "I don't know what to call you.
You are my biological father, but not my dad. I wish I could
have known you." Mako started to weep, "How would it have been,
if you and mom got married? Why did you die? Why did you die
and leave me to live in this lie? My father, whom I've known
my whole life suddenly declares that I am not his flesh and
blood? If you were alive, would you love me as much as dad
does right now? I wish mom took me sooner to see you. I wish
mom could have told me all this sooner. I know that they
never intended to tell me all this. They wanted the truth
to die with them."
Mako started to laugh, "Well I beat it out of them. Now
I know who you are." She was laughing and crying at the
same time, "It's funny, three people knew the truth. One died,
the other two intended to die with the truth, but now....I
know and I won't die until I tell someone else this. I won't
be like them and keep this a secret." Mako didn't know what she
was saying now. All her words came out like a blur to her.
Finally, Mako got up, dusted off her dress, and wiped her
face. She took another look at the tombstone, "I'll see
you again, Murawa. I promise." She started to walk down
the hill toward the carraige where her mother was waiting.
"Ready to go home?" Queen Jupiter asked.
"Yes," Mako said. Suddenly, home sounded good, cozy.
"It's almost dinner time," Queen Jupiter said.
"Dad won't let me eat dinner until I apologize, I don't
feel like doing that." Mako said stubbornly. "I was right.
Why do I have to apologize?"
"Go apologize, it'll make the both of you feel better,"
Queen Jupiter ordered.
"I can't believe I'm forced to lie!" Makoto mumbled.
"Fine, don't go apologize if you don't want to. It's
your choice." Queen Jupiter stated.
"Okay, I will," Mako gave in.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
A couple nights later, Mako woke up in the middle of the
night. She didn't know why she woke. Something just wasn't right.
It was too dark to see clearly, but she could see that no one
was in her room. But she had a feeling someone had come in
before.
She noticed something on her. There was a flower of some sort
on her stomach. Mako reached for it. When she got a closer
look, she recognized it was a lily of the valley. That was
her favorite, but who would have known?
Makoto got up and walked to the balcony. The wide doors
were open, letting the fresh air in. Someone had obviously
got out through the balcony. But who would climb two
stories just to leave this on her bed?
"Shinosaki!" Mako whispered. He was the only one who would
have did this. But how did he know which room was her bedroom?
Makoto looked over the balcony at the Royal Gardens. There
were shadows cast over everything, giving them almost an eerie
glow. Mako saw one of the shadows move. She squinted to try to
see who it was. It was a person in silver armor.
Makoto ran quietly out of her room and slid down the banister
to the front door. She opened it quietly and walked out. She had
to keep a constant eye out for night guards out on duty. They would
surely wonder what she was doing out so late or too early in the
morning.
She walked quickly into the Royal Gardens to the place where
she saw the figure. The figure wasn't facing her, it was looking
out to the reflection pond. Makoto recognized who it was. Should
she disturb him? He looked so tranquil.
Makoto tried to walk closer, but made a mistake. She accidently
stepped on a pile of leaves and twigs probably left there by
the gardener.
The figure siftly turned around, alarmed that he was not alone.
"Mako-chan?" he asked.
"Shino-chan!" Makoto ran up and hugged him.
Shinosaki hugged her tightly. He didn't mean to wake her
up, but now, he knew he should have.
"Shino-chan, what are you doing here?" Mako asked.
"I'm off duty this night. I just wanted to see you."
Mako showed him the flower, "You left this here?"
Shinosaki nodded.
"Why didn't you wake me?" Mako asked.
"I didn't want to disturb you. You look so cute sleeping,"
Shinosaki smiled.
Mako turned and looked out at Reflection Lake. She knew
why it was called that. The sky was exactly mirrored in the
water.
Shinosaki put his arms around her slender waist and put
his head by hers. "Did you tell King Jupiter?"
Mako closed her eyes for a second, as if to drive away
bad thoughts, "He didn't believe me. He said I was making
it all up because I was bored. My mother noticed a change
in your dad too, but my father just won't listen."
"Maybe I should tell him myself," Shinosaki said.
Mako thought, "No, he'll just tell your father. Then
you would be in big trouble. Give it time. My father
will realize it eventually."
Shinosaki kissed Mako's cheeks, "I missed you."
"I missed you even more," Mako sighed.
"Mako-chan, what's wrong? Is there something on your
mind?" Shinosaki knew something was bugging her.
"Nothing," Mako lied. She didn't want to burden Shinosaki
with any more problems. He had more than his share of
problems.
"Mako-chan, tell me. What's wrong. Did your dad say
something that hurt you?" Shinosaki asked.
"Y-y-yes," Mako tried to swallow the lump in his throat.
"What?"
Mako felt tears building in her eyes. She didn't know
why she was crying. She didn't want to cry. She never cried
infront of people, other than her mother and father. Usagi
never even saw her cry.
"Mako-chan, what did he say?" Shinosaki hugged Mako closer
to comfort her. Plus, it was getting chilly.
"H-h-he said I wasn't his flesh and blood," Mako stuttered.
"That's not true." Shinosaki was shocked that someone would
tell their own kid that lie.
"It is..." Mako started to softly cry.
"What? What do you mean?" Shinosaki patted Mako's back. She
was shaking with sobs.
"My mother told me everything," Mako cried.
"You don't have to tell me, if it's too personal," Shinosaki
said.
"No, I want to....."
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
"I can't believe they kept that secret for so many years,"
Shinosaki said.
"I can't either. They weren't going to tell me either. If
I hadn't found out, they would have let the secret die with them."
Mako said.
"Your father is very....what's the word? He's very thoughtful
to do that. I don't know many men who would do that for a
woman." Shinosaki said.
"I know. I love my dad, but I can't help getting mad that
they never told me the truth." Mako said, "It's like a part
of me was hidden from myself. They should have told me."
"I'm sure they regret that they didn't tell you earlier,"
Shinosaki said.
"I don't know what to think," Mako sighed.
Shinosaki tried to stifle a yawn. He should be getting back.
Morning excersise starts at daybreak.
"You should get back and get some sleep," Mako said.
"Yeah, it's almost daybreak." Shinosaki sighed.
"When will you come back?"
"As soon as I can," Shinosaki promised.
"I'll be waiting..." Mako kissed Shinosaki softly.
Shinosaki hugged Mako one last time and let her go. Mako watched
as Shinosaki walked out.
"Careful of the guards," Mako said.
"I will."
Mako sighed. When will be the next time she see's him? Will
it be because of a good reason?
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
"Princess, your father asked to see you," one of the maids said
to Mako.
"Okay, tell him I'm coming down. Thanks." Makoto put her book
down and went downstairs.
"Dad, where are you?" Mako called out.
"In the study," King Jupiter said.
"Yes? Did you want to see me?" Makoto asked. Everything was
almost back to normal with her dad. They treated each other
like they did before all the lies were revealed.
"Oh yes, sit down."
"Uh oh. Did I do something wrong?" Mako asked. She hated
it when her father told her to sit down. It meant they would
be discussing something very serious.
"Of course not. Not yet. I'm telling you this to keep
you from doing something wrong." King Jupiter said.
"What?"
"We will be having lunch with Judge Miyake today. Don't
try to investigate or anything around him. Don't try to
analyze him. He is not crazy. I would know if he was. Afterall,
I am his close friend. Okay?" King Jupiter emphasized.
"Okay," Mako said reluctantly. She crossed her finger inback
of her. She would investicate, but would also try to be discreet
about it.
"No funny business, okay Makoto Kino?" King Jupiter emphasized.
"Yes, daddy." Makoto said, keeping her head low.
"Okay. You can go now." King Jupiter dismissed her.
Makoto started to walk out, but remembered something, "Dad,
is Judge Miyake's son coming too?"
"No, he's still out on training," King Jupiter said.
"Oh, thanks." Mako let out a breath.
"See you at lunch," King Jupiter said.
"Sure."
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Makoto was staring intently at Judge Miyake. She was watching
his every move. She kind of hoped he would do something obvious
that would prove to her father that she was right.
"Princess, why so intent today?" Judge Miyake asked. He
was smiling, but something didn't look too sincere.
"Am I?" Mako asked.
"Yes. You haven't said a whole sentance since I got here."
Judge Miyake said.
"Sorry," Mako said, even though she wasn't. What else
could she have said.
"You'll have to excuse her. She has a lot on her mind," Queen
Jupiter laughed softly.
"Are you thinking about my son?" Judge Miyake asked suddenly.
"Huh?" Makoto was sure her face was beet red by now.
"Don't think I haven't noticed. It's obvious on both of
your faces." Judge Miyake laughed.
"Ahhhhh. That time in a girls life." King Jupiter said as
if he knew everything about that.
"How would you know? Since when were you a girl?" Queen
Jupiter asked, a small smile playing on her lips.
"I know when my daughter is thinking of a boy." King
Jupiter said.
Makoto couldn't stop blushing, she felt as if her head
was on fire. She didn't like it when they were discussing her
like that.
"Yes, Shinosaki has fallen hard for you, Princess." Judge
Miyake sighed, "I haven't seen him this head over heals with
any other girl."
"I think we are embarassing her," Queen Jupiter came to
her daughter's rescue.
"Yes, let's not embarass our future princess," Judge Miyake
had a little tone of sarcasm in his voice.
Makoto didn't like the tone he had in his voice. It was
almost as if he was making fun of her.
Through out the whole lunch, Mako looked for any indication
that proved Judge Miyake was changing into some crazed person.
She found little subtle hints. Like the way he would have a
little scowl in his face whenever her father's back was to
him. She didn't know if her mother noticed that or not.
* * * * * * * * * * *
That night, Mako lay in bed trying to think things out. How
could she prove to her father that there was somthing wrong with
Judge Miyake? Her father already didn't believe the straightforward
approach. He obviously didn't get the subtle hints either. Would
he realize in time that there was something wrong with his
friend?
Maraculously, Mako fell asleep with all this weighing on her
mind. She didn't fall into a deep sleep that would wipe all the
troubles off her mind. In her dreams, the problems still
existed.
* * * * * * * * * * ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **
In the morning, Mako woke up to a beautiful day. The birds
were perched upon her balcony chirping their morning songs.
Mako almost thought for a second that everything was normal. But
reality hit her when she looked into the mirror. She remembered
who she was, the troubles she had and the problem with how to
solve the troubles.
"Princess? Are you awake yet? Breakfast is already in session,"
a maid called from the door.
"Yeah, I'll be right down. Tell my parents I'm still dressing,"
Mako said to the maid.
"Okay. Is there anything to be washed?" the maid asked that
every morning.
"No, it's fine. Thank you." Mako turned to her closet to
pick something to wear.
She decided to wear her green and white dress. It was a white
slip, under layers and layers of translucent green fabric. It
was light enough to be airy and cool.
"Makoto, it's about time you woke up. It' such a beautiful
morning. Or better yet, it WAS such a beautiful morning. You
slept away almost the whole time." Queen Jupiter chirped. She
was visibly in a good mood this morning.
"Did I oversleep? Sorry," Mako said.
"No, you did not oversleep, but it would be nice if you woke
up early once in a while to actually see the sun before it
was way over your head." Queen Jupiter joked.
"Oh," Mako dug into her waffles. She was hungry this morning.
Mako forgot her manners and talked with her mouth full of
waffle bits, "Where is dad?"
"He's in the study with Judge Miyake."
Mako almost choked on her waffles. Why was he back? So soon?
What were they planning to do anyway?
"Don't give me that look and don't you dare talk with your
mouth full again. You ARE the princess and it is not polite."
Queen Jupiter was about to start another lecture about how
it's important to act lady like.
"What is Judge Miyake doing here?" Mako asked before
her mother started in on another lecture.
"I think he's discussing what to do with the extra money
in the treasure fund." Queen Jupiter said.
Makoto had a feeling that Judge Miyake would be saying
something that she would not like. "Did you notice the way
he looked at dad yesterday?" Mako asked.
"Yes. It was not a good look." Queen Jupiter replied, "I
noticed that look. You did too?"
"Yes. Did you tell dad?" Mako asked eagerly.
"No. I told you he will find out on his own eventually."
Queen Jupiter said.
"Do you think he noticed the looks?" Mako hoped.
"I don't know."
Mako finished eating and started out of the dinning room.
She was planning on "listening" in on what her father and
Judge Miyake.
"Makoto! Don't even think about going in and eavesdropping
on your father. I can see what you are planning to do." Queen
Jupiter warned.
"Okay," Mako said reluctantly.
Her mother gave her a stern look and then left. Mako went
outside for a walk. She hated it when her mother could read
what was on her mind. Now this left her the rest of the morning
to do nothing.
Mako sat by the lake and watched some squirrels run up and
around a big oak tree. She thought about visiting Usagi but
then cancelled that out. She should be here just incase something
happened.
** ** ** ** ** ** ** * * ** * * ** * * ** * * ** * * ** * * **
Mako hurried to the house. She never realized how long she
was sitting outside. It was now well past lunch time. Why didn't
anyone remind her of lunchtime? Mako walked into the estate.
There were a few maids about dusting and everthing.
"Where is my mother?" Mako asked a maid.
"I don't know. I haven't seen her since breakfast."
"Did you see my father?"
"Last time I checked, he was in the study." The maid
continued dusting.
"Thanks." Mako continued walking to the study.
By the doorway of the study, Mako kneeled down and
put her ear to the door. She couldn't hear anything. Everything
in there was deathly silent. She got up and turned the door
knob slowly. She opened it a crack and looked in.
From her limited view, she only saw the opposite wall.
She opened it a little wider. She got a veiw of the leather
armchair by the wall. By now, the door was halfway open already.
Mako scanned the room. At the far end of the room, she could
see something.
Mako could just merely make out what that object half
hidden by a item of clothing. It was her mother's shoe!
She swung open the door and looked. Her mother and father
were slumped in the corner of the room, unconscious or
something. Their hands were bound behind their backs.
Immediately, Mako ran to try and help them. When she was
about halfway across the room, she heard the door slam. She
spun around and looked right at the point of a long sword....

That's it for this chapter. If you're lucky, you might find
the next chapter pretty soon. If you're not....we'll just find
out what happens won't we?
