“What are you doing?”Rath inquired.
“Trying to find out about my-er-Amera’s past” she said scimming though a book.
“Here?!”he persisted.
“It’s quiet here,” she replied, hinting to leave her alone. But instead, he sat down and picked up a book. It turned out to be Roses’s, Alex’s grandma’s, diary of her expeditions. He mine as well put to use the english writing his prince had been trying to teach him.
“...I read the incantation:
‘Arise oh sarced one,
you have been called.
Time to complete,
your eternal mission!’
This small sarcophagus opened, and out pranced a white cat. It was odd, since we know of no white cats in Egypt. And then it talked!
‘3500 years worth of dust. Disgusting!’ ”
He flipped to a different page.
“....finally, I have gotten used to Kineta. The white cat turned ou to have a name, bu not a past. It hurts her dreadfully to talk about this....”
Hurt? She was so serious back then, and crazy now, there’s no hurt. He read on.
“....She keeps on saying after she learns about the modern world, she must set out to find Amera’s spirit and 4 mummies. Ja-Kal, Rath, Armon and Nefer-Tina. The one called Rath, she said she felt a certain anger to, although she didn’t know him....”
He slammed the book shut, startling Alex, and got up to take a walk. So after all these years, she still felt anger towards him. But it wasn’t like he wasn’t still mad at her. “Do not mock me, peasant,” rang in his ears. Yes, he deserved it, but she didn’t have to say peasant. He despised commoners.
When Rath returned, Kineta bounded into the sphinx, calling, “Alex.”
“I thought the sphinx was quiet?” Alex complained. Liz jumped up onto the table.
“Whatcha doin’?”
“Uh....um...” Alex tried to cover the books, but she was too late.
“Oh. Rath, do you have anything to read?” Liz asked walking over to his desk.
“Surely, you must jest” he replied.
“I can read!” She shot back defencively.
Rath looked at her disbelieving.
“Whatch.” Liz grabbed an incantation, but Rath snatched it away before she could read it to him. But, Kineta happened to catch something written on it. “..to bring someone through the western gate..”
*****
Getting the incantation was not a problem, it was porforming it. It called for something that belonged to that “someone” you were bringing though. Luckily, she had her mothers’ staff.
Kineta shivered. Tonight was not the night to be practicing spell.
“..and by the wings of Horus, bring forth the mighty Bastet!”
The crisp, hard winds stopped. Kinets fell to her knees, clutching her horrific cat head. Then, a hand came to her shoulder.
“Why, my child, do not cry.” Kineta Looked up and flew into her mothers’ arms.
“I’ve missed you so much, Mother,” she cried, feeling helpless.
“But, I am here know, dear”
“Oh, mother, don’t be angry at Presley anymore.”
Bastet looked into her daughter’s face, seeing how much this plea meant to her.
“No, I will not. I see how much you have taken a fondness to him. I shall not harm him.”
“Thank you, mother.” Kineta smiled.
“I have something for you.” A parcel appeared in Kineta’s hand. She opened it carefully, and found an “eye of Horus” charm. Bastet put the charm on her daughter. “Now you shall be able to turn into a regular human.”
“May I?”
“Of course, dear.”
“With the strength of Ra!” Kineta wore a top that was up to her breast line, similar to Nefer-Tina’s, except it looked like cloth. She also wore a fancy kilt and lots of jewelry.
“This will make you seem helpless and harmless.” Bastet smiled at her beloved daughter’s happiness.

Ja-Kal opened his sarcophagus. Somwthing was not right. He could feel it in his bandages.
Ja-Kal knocked on each of the other mummies sarcophaguses. “Arise. Something is not right.”
*****
“You know, Mihos is up there right know, watching you?” Bastet spoke up, clearing the silence.
“Who’s Mihos?” Kineta in confusion.
“He’s your brother. He used to watch you and protect you. He still does.”
“Bastet!” a voice cried from behind, that seemed too familar to Kineta. It was Rath.
“I thought we sent you through the Western Gate,” Ja-Kal said, or asked.
“I brought her back,” Kineta said stepping toward them, “Go find Scarab or someone to pester.” she told them angrily.
“Kineta, is that you?” Armon asked.
“Ya, cool, huh?” She said not taking her eyes off Ja-Kal.
“How did you do it?” Nefer-tina asked, also amazed.
Kineta rose her chin proudly. “My dear mother.”
“Say farewell to her.” Ja-Kal remarked and shot an arrow towards Bastet, but they vanished before it could reach her.
