Ja-Kal looked on passed the skies. He was watching the sun rise by himself. He wanted Alex to be there, the only one whom knew what it was like to lose family. But he wanted his family to be there even more, oh how he longed for his family. He would welcome the day that he was to be with his family again, would he ever. A deep sigh release from his lips as he thought what would happen when he would see his family again, through the Western Gate. The thought of Padjet all grown up a man and his dear wife, Tia, waiting for him. Ja-Kal’s blue eyes filled with tears. He shook his head. He was the leader, he could not show any weaknesses. And was not Presley and the rest of the gang his family too? Would he feel the same way towards Presley and the others when he was to go through the Western Gate? So many questions that cannot be answered.
Ja-Kal let out another sigh as he lay on top of the sphinx. Ja-Kal could understand why Kineta found it peaceful up here, no one to bother you.
“Hey Ja-Kal!” Kineta greeted the mummy leader as she jumped on top of the sphinx and sat down beside him.
Ja-Kal made no note that she was there.
“Ja-Kal, have you been crying?” Kineta asked, a bit upset for him.
“I should get back” Ja-Kal said as if he were talking to himself
“Ja-Kal? What’d I do?”
Ja-kal then left Kineta to her sacred place once again. To think about all the thoughts she had stirring in her head.
“Ja-Kal, where have you been?” grunted Rath, “Armon’s into our food supply...AGAIN!”
Ja-Kal shook his head. Even he couldn’t stop Armon from finishing off the food.
“Ja-Kal, the young prince came by here looking for you,” Nefer-Tina told him as she walked away.
He had left the sphinx peaceful and now that he came back, there was food on the floor, stuff being broken, everyone arguing. If it had not been for Alex, he might have run away again, for good.
“Don’t worry Ja-Kal” Alex soothed.
Ja-Kal looked down to see a brunette headed girl looking up at him with eyes full of cheerfulness, that sooned changed to worry.
“Ja-Kal have you been crying?” Alex asked.
The mummy turned his head. Even he could not face Alex, the one he had trusted with his secrets, how he felt of this new world. How is it that everyone could tell that he had been crying, he did not cry! Only the tears swelled up in his eyes and he had failed to let them fall down his cheeks.
“Ja-Kal I think you need some fresh air” Alex suggested.
“But I already wa-”
“No Ja-Kal, you really look hurt”
They sat down on the railing outside.
“Now Ja-Kal, tell me what’s been bothering you?” Alex’s voice seemed to sing softly through the air. Ja-Kal remembered Tia’s voice, it too also sang softy through the wind. Tia’s voice was so lovely that she could sing a hungry lion to sleep.
“Nothing” Ja-Kal replied as he walked away heading further from the sphinx.
Ja-Kal didn’t know where he was going but he needed a walk.
“Hey Ja-Kal, there you are!” Presley called waving to the mummy.
Ja-Kal kept on walking not noticing Presley. All he could think about was Tia’s voice. He remembed the lullaby that she used to sing to their son.
“Ja-Kal?”
He broke out of his trance as he stared at the prince. “Presley!” JA-Kal said surprised, “I-I did not see you there!” he stammed.
“Yeah, whatever,” Presley said thinking it didn’t matter, “Hey, I thought you were going to teach me new tricks with the boomer-ra?” He asked as held the boomer-ra up high so Ja-Kal could see it clearly.
“Oh, yes the boomer-ra. Not today my prince” Ja-Kal stammered as he pushed the boomer-ra away and started walking.
“Ja-kal?”Presley asked as he turned around surprised at the leader mummy walking away as if he was in a trance...
“Scarab, what are you doing?” Angora asked annoyed as Scarab surrounded a spear that had Ja-Kal in it.
“Quiet girl, I’m trying to concentrate!” Scarab yelled.
“He’s doind a pretty lousy job though”Heka admitted.
“Let’s see you do this then” Scarab offered the golden snake.
“Try doing anything with out hands” Heka replied.
“What is he doing snake?” Angora asked as she crossed her arms.
“I’m luring Ja-Kal away from the mummies” Scarab announced.
“Why?”
“Because the mummies can’t get along without him” he growled.
“Didn’t you try that once?” Heka asked as she prepared to get hit across the room.
“Yes, but this is different” Scarab replied, still concentrating on the sphere.
“What’s so different?” Heka asked again.
“I am not making him weak’ Scarab started “I’m not going to bug him, but lead him to the water and drown him”
“Good Luck Heka mumbled and slithered away.
“Won’t the mummies figure out that Ja-Kal is in some sort of trance?” Angora asked.
“Them?” Scarab laughed “they couldn’t find their way though a wet paper bag!”
“Hmmm” Angora thought about this-Rath was sure smart, but didn’t look for any emotions-Nefer-Tina wouldn’t care-Kineta also wouldn’t care-Armon would be too busy with his stomach-Presley---- “What about the young prince?” Angora spoke up.
“Rapses!” Scarab looked up as he had forgotten all about him. “Well then, your just going to have to keep him busy while I destroy Ja-Kal”
“ME! I’m only here because-”
Quiet!” Scarab thundered “I know why you’re here, now go!” he ordered.
“Fine then you old bag of bones” Angora mumbled as she walked away.
“I heard that” Scarab growled.
Ja-Kal walked on, he could hear Tia’s voice. It was getting louder and closer, but everytime he swore that she’d be right around the corner, the voice was further away.
“TIA?!” Ja-Kal’s voice called out, longing to be with his family once again.
“Ja-Kal” The voice replied.
“Tia, where are you?” Ja-Kal cried out for his mistress.
“Well, well. Look here, someone has crossed our turf” said a punk.
Ja-Kal walked on not noticing the punk and his friends.
“I guess we’re going to have to teach him a lesson, huh guys?”
“I guess we do” said another.
Kineta, who was using her abilities to sneak up on Ja-Kal saw this. She may have felt a hatred to him, but she still didn’t like to see anyone get hurt.
The red punk walked up behind Ja-Kal ready to attack when Kineta stepped out into the light, looking almost ghastly.
“Well, well another trespasser!” called the purple punk was joy.
“You leave him alone” Kineta growled, her fists clenched.
“And who’s gonna make me? You?” he replied. laughing.
“Me, of course. You’d you think, the boogyman?” Kineta smirked.
“You!” the whole gang started laughing. “A girl!”
They slowly circled Kineta, her in the middle.
“Well then!” Kineta gasping her amulet, knowing that her human form wasn’t enough to clobber the punks. “With the strength of Ra!” A flsh of pink struck her, as it faded away, it left Kineta in her armor holding her staff.
“Oooh, wow” said a punk sarcastically, “Your magic tricks won’t do you any good”
“MAGIC TRICKS!” Kineta hollered, enraged, “MY MOTHER DIDN’T GIVE ME THIS AMULET TO ENTERTAIN YOU!”
Kineta with furry inside her, made the first scary face she had ever made. Her head turned back as it was in Ancient Egypt, she roared at him, her eyes bulging out of their sockets, her teeth showing.
‘Wow this is neat!,’ Kineta thought to herself.
“Ahhh!” two gang members ran away, which left 10.
“Oh, another one of your tricks?” the leader asked laughing, but he didn’t seem as confident as he had before.
“I’ll show you tricks” Kineta said a solemn look on her face as she motioned for the leader to come after her.
“ATTACK!” The leader ordered.
Kineta jumped out of the way leaving one mamber to crash into a wall. Kineta landed between another two members. They both chuckled as they moved towards her. Kineta too chuckled as she got both of them in the stomach.
While Kineta was fighting, Ja-Kal was walking further and further out of sight. “Tia” he kept repeating.
KIneta sighed as she placed her foot over the last punk, the leader. “Guys always underestimate the power of a woman” these were the last words the punk heard for the rest of the day.
“Ja-Kal?” Kineta looked up to see herself alone. A cool breeze swept past her, ruffling her hair. Kineta shivered. ‘I save his tut, and this is how he repays me’ Kineta shook her head and headed back to the sphinx. It was no use tracking him down. There are a million places he coul have gone to. She sighed, and returned to the white cat she once was. No more punks would attack her like this, hopefully, for their sake.
Alex sat on the couch with Presley and Armon watching the magic box, only Alex was the only one not interested. “This doesn’t seem like Ja-kal” Alex thought aloud.
“Alex, I think you’re right” Presley agreed “He totally blew me off when he was supposed to go and teach me some new tricks with the boomer-ra”
“And he did not once tell me to stop eating” Armon agreed.
“Yes, I am afraid you are correct” Rath joined in.
Kineta walked in with her head down.
“Liz!” the 5 of them got up and walked over to thw white cat.
“Did you find Ja-Kal?” Nefer-Tina asked.
“No”Liz mumbled.
“What happened?”Presley asked.
“I was stopping these punks from kicking Ja-Kal’s tut..”
“And?”
“And the next thing I know, Ja-Kal’s oughta sight”
“Rath, could we track Ja-Kal with the sacred pyramid?” Nefer-Tina asked.
“Ahh, we can use the pyrimad!” Rath said as if he had just thought of the wonderful idea.
They all crowded around the pyrimad and Rath began chanting out the words. The pyrimad turned around as if trying to find it’s pieces.
“What does it say?” Presley asked impatiently.
“Uh, Splish-splash?”
