In the darkness of the moonlit night
this is truly a frightful sight
A raven glides through whispering trees
as they sway in the icy breeze
The spring of life pulses near
splashing salmon I can hear
Running streams sparkling bright
even through the darkest night
Eerie howls of wolves cry out
even pups scream and shout
From the distance, a frightful gale
Sounding like, a witch’s wale
In the air a scream I hear
in its voice a smell of fear
I look and search but I see not
the ground below has start to rot
I trip and fall into a hole
as if somewhere I lost my soul
I shiver now it’s freezing cold
and wonder what my future will hold
I jump and climb but go nowhere
for this is the forest of despair
I look up and there I see
someone smiling down at me
They extend to me a gentle hand
and from my eyes flow liquid sand
I reach on up and hold on fast
I’m safe for now safe at last
To me a name they did not give
but were happy that I did live
I recognized the smiling face
as they walked away at a hurried pace
Their method was fairly crude
I kind of thought that it was rude
They stopped and turned to wait for me
they were friends now I see
We made our way through birch and pine
one turned to ask if I was fine
I saw those words were much too kind
as I began to fall behind
And soon they both were out of sight
all was left was a dulling light
I ran on up and there they stood
they laughed at me like no one could
I left them there those laughing hounds
until I heard those wary sounds
I turned to see the two were there
huddling tight with wayward fear
I took them both by the arm
and led the two away from harm
I led us all to the forest edge
and there a vow we did pledge
Friends for now and ever more
I made this vow from the core
With those words we soon were off
until one saw a flapping moth
