Illmariachi are Nagoya's finest. The DJ is DJ Hazu, and the MC is Tokona X. Tokona X has a very unique style and a very strange voice which though takes a little getting used to, definately grows on you. They have a bit of an old school feel, and are quite strongly influenced by the Juice Crew. 2 tracks on the "Master Blaster" album are based around MC Shan songs (Nagoya Queens uses the beat from "the Bridge" and "For the Bad boys and the ladies" uses the "daisy lady" sample as used in "Down by Law"). Quite early in the album, Tokona X says (in Japanese) that Hazu is Nagoya's Marley Marl!
The Master Blaster album is definately worth hearing. Some tracks are better than others. "Young Guns" is probably the standout track. |
