Ramayana

Lord Rama and SitaRama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born as heir to the throne of Ayodhya. Goaded by his stepmother Kaykaye, who wanted her son Bharatha to be the King, Rama's father Dasaratha exiled him for 14 years. Rama accompanied by his wife Sita and brother Lakshman went into the forest. On his return to Ayodhya from his maternal uncle's home, Bharatha was shocked to learn what had happened, and refused to become the king. Acting on Rama's words, Bharatha placed the wooden sandals of Rama on the throne and acted as regent of his brother, looking after the kingdom till his return.

During the exile, Sita was abducted by Ravana, the demon King of Lanka. Both Rama and Lakshman, with the help of trusted monkey king-Hanuman, traced Sita in Lanka. In the war that ensued, Rama killed Ravana and rescued Sita. At the end of 14 years, the two brothers and Sita returned to Ayodhya.
