Ja-kal wanted to go because he knew that this legend was true, and was sure Scarab was also out to get them.

It was told that they each held extrodanry power.

You clearly remember what Martin had told you about them.

“ From what we could decipher from the tomb of Kineta, she had given Amera, an ankh staff, for Amera’s kindness. Amera had also found these 9 crystals on her journeys with her father, and hung them in her staff. What Amera didn’t know is that they were so powerful that they could kill the entire world if not used properly. Or so it says on the wall. Anyway, when Amera died, it seemed that Kineta knew of these powers, but chose not to tell Amera, because in any place anyone could or might of overhear. So after Amera was gone Kineta hid the 8 crystals, in safe and dangerous places, somehow. To complete the crystals powers she had merge the 9th crystal in the staff. That way the power of all the crystals could not combine without the staff and destroy the world. Of course no one knows what ever happened to the ankh staff. It’s said that one of the crystals is hidden in one of the jungles somewhere.
