The Genbu Seven

Genbu, the black/green tortoise of the north, is not featured a lot in "Fushigi Yuugi." It's constellations are beautiful, notwithstanding. The following is a breakdown of Genbu's constellations.

Japanese Name Meaning Corresponding Constellation
HikitsuBoshi Dipper; Measure Sagittarius
InamiBoshi Cow Capricornus
UrukiBoshi Woman; perhaps Waiting Maid Capricornus
TomiteBoshi Emptiness Equuleus
UmiyameBoshi Roof Top, perhaps Danger, Steep Equuleus
HatsuiBoshi Room, perhaps Encampment Pegasus
NamameBoshi Wall Pegasus

Here's a quick pronunciation guide to Genbu's constellations/warriors:
HikitsuBoshi=
Hee-kit-soo-bo-she
InamiBoshi=
Ee-nam-ee-bo-she
UrukiBoshi=
Oo-roo-kee-bo-she
TomiteBoshi=
Toe-mee-tay-bo-she
UmiyameBoshi=
Oo-mee-ya-may-bo-she
HatsuiBoshi=
Hat-soo-ee-bo-she
NamameBoshi=
Nam-am-may-bo-she

The constellations appear thusly:

Each of these constellations should have a warrior attached, but the only two that make it into "Fushigi Yuugi" are HikitsuBoshi and TomiteBoshi. As often happens in the series, the names are shortened to just Hikitsu and Tomite, to avoid redundancy and boredom. A picture of the two follows-- Hikitsu is the one with the eyepatch and Tomite is the one holding the flag.

Now, it's time for my "pick of the litter." Here, I will display my favorite warrior out of all the Genbu. Not much of a choice here, but the selection was VERY easy. My pick is:

Hikitsu of course!!
Not only was I born under his constellation, but I find Hikitsu to be more intelligent, more powerful, and, of course, cuter than Tomite. His powers of ice control are by far the better attack, and his loyalty to the Genbu shrine caused him to stay around, in spirit, two hundred years after his own death! That's a man that knows responsibility from a hole in the ground! Anyway, Tomite is kinda rash and brazen, and Hikitsu had to pull him out of the fire on many occasions when they were still alive. Thus, Hikitsu is the best. Let's move on!
