• Pallet Town #1: Starting point of game. You can do nothing until you try to leave the town. At that point, Dr. Oak will come to you and lead you to his lab. From Dr. Oak, you recieve one of three starting Pokemon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. Then you will take part in an easy battle against your rival. Get the town map from your rival's house before you leave. Talk to the girl inside his house to recive the Town Map. Tip: Though Charmander and Squirtle may be more useful in the begining of the game, Bulbasaur eventually evolves into Venosaur, which is one of the best pokemon in the game. Bulbasaur is the best overall choice of the three starting pokemon. Travel north first to Viridian City(#2), then after reciving the order from the shop, come back to Pallet town(#1), Then Travel back north to Viridian City(#2) Pokemon to get: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle.

  • Viridian City #2: Location of Gym #8. When first going to Viridian City, be sure to go into the shop, the attendent there will give you an order for Dr. Oak. Take it back to him. It will allow you to buy stuff from the mart, and get passed the cranky old guy. Check out the palm tree next to the cranky old man, it will give you a booster shot. After getting tree cutter ability, talk to the fat kid in the closed off place by cutting down the tree. He will give you something nice. To the west is the road that leads to the pokemon league entrance at Indigo Plateau. On your way there, you will have another battle /w your rival. Note: you cannot enter the pokemon league without all 8 badges. Tip: Training efforts should not be concentrated on a spearow, pidgey, or nidoran. Rattata MAY be useful very early in the game because of its speed, But you should mainly train with Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander. Travel north to Viridian Forest(#3)... Or if you have all 8 badges, go west to Indigo Plateu(#4) Pokemon to get: Spearow, Pidgey, Rattata, Nidoran(M)(red), Nidoran(F)(blue).

  • Viridian Forest #3: The first place where you challenge a fair amount of trainers. Look out for available items just sitting there. Also Look out for a Pikachu! Note: there is only one Pikachu in Viridian Forest, and you should only leave after you have caught it. Travel north to Pewter City(#5) Pokemon to get: Weedle, Caterpie, Kakuna, Metapod, Pikachu.

  • Indigo Plateau #4: Location of the Pokemon League. Accessible only after you have beaten all eight gyms.

  • Pewter City #5: Location of Gym #1. Above is a large building, a museum. The building on the right of the museum is only accessible by cutting down a tree. The man in there will give you "Old Amber". This museum will be interesting later in the game. After beating the gym leader, heal your pokemon and go east to battle a series of trainers. You can get a Jigglypuff in the grass behind the trainer that has a Jigglypuff. Note: Bulbasaur or Squirtle will be VERY useful against the gym leader, Brock... But if you picked Charmander, you better start training him very, very well. Note: After you get the Bide TM from Brock, don't instantly use it on your pokemon, it is really not that good of a move. But if you must teach it to someone, wait till you have a rock pokemon, like Onix or Geodude. Travel east from Pewter city to Mt. Moon.(#7) There is a Pokemon Center There. Pokemon to get: Pidgey, Rattata, Jigglypuff

  • Celadon City #6: Location of gym #4You should first visit the Pokemon Center, and then check out the shopping center Celadon City has extremely large shopping center. You can buy almost everything in the game here, TMs, Items, and ,oh yes, even soft drinks...On the top floor of the shopping center, they have vending machines that sell three types of drinks. There is a girl up there that if you give her one of each drink, she will give you a different TMs. Also while you are up there, get 1 glass of water for the thirsty gate guards. In the Game Corner there is a man that is standing in front of a poster in the back in a black suit. Fight him and then inspect the poster by pressing A. You will here a *KLUNK* and a stairwell will be opened. This is the Team Rocket Lair. Here you can get the Sliph Scope used for seeing the ghosts in the Pokemon Tower. Next, Heal all your pokemon and go south to find Gym #4. The gym can be only accessed by using CUT, so bring along your CUTing Pokemon. To the west of the large shopping center is a small road with a sleeping monster blocking the way. Use the Pokemon Flute on him once you get it to get by. Be careful! If you're going for all 150 pokemon, there are only two Snorlax in the game. Save before fighting him so if you mess up, you can reset and try again. Also there is a tree there. Cut down that tree, go up and to the left, and you will see a house. Go into that house and a girl will give you HM02, which is FLY. Use it on any flying pokemon. This ability puts up a map and lets you go to any city that had a Poke Center that you went into. Continue on to the west and there will be a bike path. To go on it, you must make sure that you have a bike...I you don't, get one from Cerulean City(#8). Continue on the bike path to get to Fuschia City(#13) or you can use FLY to get to Cerulean City(#8) and get past the gate guard with the drink you bought.

  • Mt. Moon #7: This is a cave that will take you from the outskirts of Pewter City(#5) to the outskirts of Cerulean City(#8). You can get some items scattered around in there. Out in the Pokemon Center near the entrance to the cave, a man is inside the there that will sell you MagiKarp for 500 dollars. Team Rocket is trying to find the Moon Stone that is inside Mt. Moon. A geodude will be useful to fight the Rockets, you can catch on in the cave. On the lower levels of the cave you can get MegaPunch, one of the best TMs in the game. It will do the best to either keep it or put it on geodude.

Places to find Moon stones: (no. 4 and 5 are hidden, so you have to press the A button to get them)
1-- In the upper-lefthand corner of the first floor of Mt. Moon.
2-- In the basement of the game corner.
3-- In the bottom-right corner of Route 2 (You must use the CUT ability to get it).
4-- In Mt. Moon, before the supernerd's platform, there is a corridor 4 spaces long and 1 space wide, go to the end of it and press A and poof! you have a Moon Stone.
5-- In the Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island, go up to the right side of one of the pillars on the right-hand side near the entrance hit A and it will say you found a Moon Stone.

If you caught that Jigglypuff in Pewter City(#5), you can use a moon stone on it to make it evolve into Wigglytuff! Go down to the lowest level of Mt. Moon and then exit and go east to Cerulean City(#8) Pokemon to get: Zubat, Geodude, Magikarp(in pokemon center)

  • Cerulean City #8: Location of Gym #2. At the bottom of the city is a bicycle shop. The man who owns it will give you a bike for free if you give him the Bike Voucher. Note: To get the Bike Voucher, go to Vermilion City(#12) and go into the house above and to the left of the gym there. Talk to the man in the upper left. He will give you the Voucher. After you beat Misty, the gym leader, go north up to the bridge. Your Rival will confront you for another battle. After you kill him, proceed to the bridge. There will be 5 trainers there waiting to battle. After them, there will be a Rocket that will give you a useless "nugget"(sell it for $5000). The Rocket will ask you to join team rocket and then you say No, so he battles you. Note if your pokemon are getting weak while fighting the 5 trainers of the bridge, simply head back to the Pokemon Center and heal them. There will be a large grassy section after the bridge with quite a few trainers to face. Once you kill all of them, you will be at Bill's house. He has accidentally changed himself into a pokemon, so simply help him out by talking to him, and then going over to the computer and pressing A. He will give you the SS ticket to get onto the SS Anne in Vermilion city(#12). Then go back down to the main town. There is a house that was blocked off by the police, but now after helping Bill and beating Misty, it should be open. Go inside and get the Dig TM, then go out the back door to face another rocket. After Beating him, Go east a few steps, then go south. That should lead you out of the main town. Now go to the center of the path (where the ledges are) and go south down the ledges to arrive at a pokemon daycare center. This daycare center is very useful; You can drop a pokemon off with the guy there and he will train it, steadilly gaining it levels. Tip: if you have a pokemon that does not have very strong attacks at the time, you can drop it off at the daycare center and the man will train it, so you don't have to train it though fights. Tip: if you caught an Abra in the grassy area you can exchange it for a Jynx, an Ice/Psycic Pokemon, in the house just to the left of the Pokemon Center... The best thing about the trade is the Abra can be very weak and low level, but you still get the same jynx. After finishing all there is to do in Cerulean City, Go south to find a gate to a closed road leading to Saffron city(#10)...But you cannot go this way so go a couple steps east to an undergound passage to Vermilion City(#12) Pokemon to get: Weedle, Caterpie, Metapod, Kakuna, Oddish(red), Bellsprout(blue), Abra.

  • Rock Tunnel #9: A cave you travel through that is completely black. To make it light, use HM05 (FLASH) on a Pokemon like Jigglypuff or Clefairy. Note: To get HM05, there is an area next to the trail that leads to Tokiwa Forest, that is blocked off by trees. Use CUT ablility and go into the house and talk to the men inside, they will give you HM05. There are a few trainers to face in there, but no items. Rock Tunnel Leads from Cerulean City(#8) to Lavender Town(#11) Pokemon to get: Zubat, Geodude, Onix, Machop

  • Saffron City #10: Location of Gym #6. The only way in here is to give the gate guard a drink. Go to the top of the Shopping Center in Celadon City and get one of the three drinks (anyone is fine). He will then let you in. There are two sections of the gym, the first section on the left is a fighting dojo where you can get one of two pokemon, Hitmochan or Hitmolee. After you beat that section, There is a building where you must beat the Team Rocket Leader again. You can only get past the gaurd if you beat Team in Mt. Moon(#7) and the Game corner of Celedon City(#6).After Beating Team Rocket here, you now have access now to the second part of the gym where you can get the badge for Gym Boss #6. After beating the gym leader FLY back to Celedon city(#6) and use the bike path to get to Fuschia City(#13)
    Pokemon Gym #6: Leader:Sabrina Specialty:Psychic

  • Lavender Town #11: Location of Pokemon Tower. Nothing of much importance here now. The Man in bottom right house will rename your Pokemon. To the trail on the left are a few trainers and a house that has an underground trail to Celedon City(#6). To the trail to the south of Lavender Town, are a couple fishermen /w water Pokemon. Go to far south and there is another sleeping Pokemon (Snorlax) blocking the way. You need to get the Sliph Scope to view and capture the ghosts in the Pokemon Tower (Celedon City, #6). After beating the Pokemon Tower, the man at the top will give you the Pokemon Flute. This can be used to wake Snorlax, the sleeping monster blocking the way to the south. This path will now lead you to Fuschia City(#13). On the way down to Fuschia City, there is a house, the only one along the way. In here, a man will give you the Wondrous Fishing Rod. You can catch a variety of Pokemon with this. Go west from Lavender Town to the underground pass that goes to Celedon City(#6) Pokemon to get: Inside The Pokemon Tower--Cubone, Gastly, Haunter--, Pidgey, Mankey (Red), Ekans (Red), Growlithe (Red), Meowth (Blue), Sandshrew (Blue), Vulpix(Blue).

  • Vermillion City #12: Location of Gym #3. After you get out of the underground pass, there will be a few trainers to face...But if your pokemon are weak for some reason, go on the grass to avoid them. To the immediate left of the entrance to Vermilion City is a Poke Center. To the left of that is a house, the another. Go into the farthest house to the left. In here, a man will give you the Old Fishing Rod. This can only be used to capture Magikarp. To the south of the city is a pier with large Cruise Liner that is docked. This ship is the famous SS Anne (dont forget to get the SS ticket from Bill in order to board). Once on the boat you can vist every room to either get advice or ,in some cases, get a fight. Most people on board have water pokemon, so use electric or grass type (Pikachu or Bulbasaur). On the second floor of the boat, you come across Your Rival again. Beat him and go up the stairs he came from to find the captian. The captain of the boat is sea-sick, Once you beat all the trainers on the ship, he will give you HM01, which is the CUT ablility. If he will not give it to you, and you have beaten all the trainers on the boat, make sure you don't have your 20 item limit all the way full. I think CUT can be used on all the pokemon, but I am not sure. You can use all HM moves including the CUT ability by going to the start menu and selecting the pokemon you gave it to, and it should appear in the menu that pops up. After you get HM01, go to the lowest level of the ship and go into the kitchen. There if you look in all the trash cans, you can get a great ball. Note: Make sure that you have done all the things that you need to do on the SS Anne before you leave...Because once you get off, it will leave for open sea. Once you are off the boat, after healing your pokemon at the Pokemon center, proceed to the gym located in the west part of town. The gym inside may seem very simple, but it is actually very difficult to get through. Look in all the trash cans in the lobby, until you find the one that says, "There's a switch under here!". Then you will be given 2 tries to locate the second switch before the locks reset. The second switch is located in one of the trash cans next to the one /w the first switch (there are 4 trash cans next to each can except the corner one, so if you don't find the 2nd switch in you 2 tries, just check all the trash cans again to find the first switch). Note: This process is VERY time-consuming, so be patient. Once inside the chamber, the gym leader will use electric pokemon against you... so use a rock or ground type pokemon (Geodude or Digglett). After beating him, he will give you the ThunderBolt TM. If you caught a pikachu in Viridian Forest, It wold be very wise to replace its ThunderShock /w the new ThunderBolt. Above and to the left of the gym, there is a house with six people in it, two of which are pokemon. Talk to the man in a black suit and had on the top left of the house, and he will give you the Bike Voucher. Note: If you go to one of the houses in the main town, a boy will trade you a Farfetch'd for a wild Spearow you can catch to the east of the main town. Now you can either go to the Diglett Cave, which leads back to Pewter City(#5)...or you can go east to a network of sidewalks that lead to a gate that has a sleeping Snorlax blocking the way. Note: if you have caught over 30 types of Pokemon, you can get an ITEMFINDER from Dr. Oak's Aide at the top floor of the gate.

If you just want to be on your merry way,
1-- travel through the diglett cave to Pewter city(#5)
2-- and get the HM05(FLASH) from another one of Dr. Oak's Aides. To recieve it, you will only need to have caught over 15 different types of Pokemon.
3-- After getting HM05 go back to Vermilion City(#12) and go back through the underground pass to go to Cerulean City(#8),
4-- Then go east and cut down the tree standing there /w CUT.
5-- Fight through all of the trainers there, and you will come to Rock Tunnel(#9)
Pokemon to get: Magikarp, Spearow, Farfetch'd (Get from the boy in town. He will trade it for a wild spearow.), Drowzee, Nidorina, Ekans(red), Sandshrew(blue).

  • Fuschia City #13: Location of Gym #5. Two houses to the south, near the entrance to the city. The one on the left is the house of the Safari Zone director. He will give you HM04, which is rock push ability. I'm not exactly sure what type of monster it works on, but I know it works on Squirtle, one of the three monsters you can get in the beginning. In the same house as the man who gives you HM04, there is an item blocked by a rock. Use rock push to get the item. In the house next to the Safari Zone director's house, there is a man that will give you the Good Fishing Rod. With this you can catch two different types of water Pokemon. To get HM03, which is surf, the ability to swim on a monsters back, you need to go into the Safari Zone. For 500 dollars, you get 30 Safari Balls, and 500 paces to move. In the way back of the Safari Zone is a house with many statues in front of it. This is the house where you get HM03. There should only be one man in there, and the inside should look metallic, unlike the other houses in the Safari Zone. Be sure to visit the Safari Zone a lot, 500 dollars is great for 30 Safari Balls and a large variety of Pokemon. Be sure to also stock up on Master or Super Balls while here (Master Balls are the best). After getting HM03 in the Safari zone, go to the Gym, located next to the Pokemon Center. There are a bunch of invisible walls inside. You will have to go around to the back, bypassing the first(on the right) trainer by going along the wall below him. Then walk up and fight the second trainer. Then go up to the top wall and search for the break in the invisible wall there, and go down, then go left and press A on the guy /w his back to you. Then go back to the top wall and go around to the left without the other guy seeing you. Then you will be at the gym leader. After finishing all that, Surf south from the town and you should find an island /w two caves. This is the Twin islands(#14). Pokemon to get: In Safari Zone --Nidoran Male (Red), Nidorino, Nidoran Female (Blue), Nidorina, Rhyhorn, Venonat, Exeggcute, Parasect, Scyther (Red), Pinsir (Blue), Chansey, Doduo, Paras, Parasect, Kangaskhan, Tauros, Psyduck, Slowpoke, Krabby, Dratini--, Tentacool, Spearow, Pidgey, Fearow.

  • Twin Islands #14: To get here, you need to use the swimming ability given to you by the guy in the Safari Zone (see Fuschia City, #13). There are some trainers swimming there to fight while surfing to the twin islands. When you get to the islands, the only thing there are two cave entrances, and only one is accessible, the other is the exit that leads to a trail that goes to Cinnabar Island(#15). Bring some Master Balls and Super Balls along because 95% of the monsters you face are new. You can get Master and Super Balls in Fuschia City (#13). To my knowledge, there are no items or people to challenge in the cave.

  • Cinnabar Island #15: Location of Gym #7. Cinnabar island has a Pokemon Labs Building(Undoubtably named after my web page...), With many trainers and pokemon to face. Inside the lab, there are three doors. Door one holds three trainers who are willing to trade Pokemon. They will give you a Tangela, Electrode and a Seel for certain Pokemon. Behind Door Two are Pokemon scientists who give Pokemon advice. Behind Door Three is a genetics engineer who is very excited about his Cloning Machine. He can clone two of three different kinds of Pokemon for you. The first Pokemon you can get depend on which Fossil you chose in Mt. Moon. If you got the Dome Fossil, the scientist can make a Kabuto. If you took the Helix Fossil, you will get and Omanyte. For the second Pokemon, bring along the Old Amber from the Pewter Museum and hand it over to get an Aerodactyl. In each case, you must leave the building then return for the cloning process to be complete. There is also a Pokemon Mansion in Cinnabar. Pokemon Mansion has been abandoned, except for a few straggling scientists and daring Burglars. Fire and Poison Pokemon have moved in and will protect their new found home. To open the electric doors, flip the switches on nearby statues. To reach the basement, you must go up to the third floor and leap off the south edge. Follow the stairs down and explore the basement. You will find a Secret Key amid the rubble on the west side. You need the Secret Key from the Pokemon Mansion before you can get into Gym #7. After beating this gym, FLY back to Viridian City (#2) and beat Gym #8. Guess who the gym leader is is. Hint: You've faced him many times before.
