The May issue of American
Laboratory published the 1999 Pittcon Editors' Awards following an extensive review
of several new product introductions by manufacturers in the analytical instrumentation
arena. In the article entitled "The Big 50 for Pittcon," three prominent
vendors were singled out and rewarded for their cutting edge innovations. After voting
on 27 individual product nominations by a committee of distinguished editors, this
is how the chips fell this year:
Perkin-Elmer Sciex for their ELAN 6100 DRC ICP-MS system
Bear Instruments for their Kodiak 1200 quadrupole MS-MS for both GC and
HPLC
ThermoQuest for their LCQ (the DECA is an ion trap LC-MS) system
Other vendors receiving notable mentions with significant vote totals included:
Waters Corporation (LCT with MUX (LC-MS) and the CapLC capillary LC) and Perkin-Elmer
(Q-Star LC-MS-MS).
Take the advice of the Pittcon Editors who put considerable
time and effort into producing this list of vendors that have distinguished themselves
far and above the competition. You'll have to forgive us for not noting who wasn't
worthy of inclusion on this select list for the fourth year running.... they didn't
even muster a notable mention!
