Title: Good Morning, Vietnam Starring: Robin Williams, Forest Whitaker, Tung Thanh Tran, Bruno Kirby, J.T. Walsh Genre: Dramatic Comedy Rated: Beats me. Rating: ***1/2 (out of ****) Ok, this was a pretty good film. It starred Robin Williams as Adrian Cronauer, a radio DJ sent to Vietnam to rally the mens' spirits. When Adrian arrives he's the hit of the Siagon, and the soldiers flock to meet him. He gains a new friend in his assistant officer Edward Garlick (Forest Whitaker) and a Vietnamese boy whose sister Adrian is fond of named Tuan (Tung Thanh Tran). Adrian also gets in big trouble with two hot-headed officers at the station, Lieutenant Steven Hauk (Bruno Kirby) and Sergeant Major Phillip "Dick" Dickerson (J.T. Walsh). These two officers are displeased with Adrian's popularity, style of comedy, and rebellious attitude towards radio entertainment. Good Morning, Vietnam was overall a very good movie. It had a pretty good plot with wonderful acting from Robin Williams to back it up. The jokes were generally pretty funny, but some of them were overshot and kinda ruined the movie effect. The story had a great twist ending, with wonderful dramatic backing from Williams. The only qualms with Good Morning, Vietnam were some plot holes in the storyline and horrid assistance from Robin's wonderful performance. Nonetheless, Good Morning, Vietnam earns a high rating at three and a half stars, but lacks the power needed to give it a four. Sorry, Robin, you tried your best and it's damn clear to see. -Alaay- |
