Title: Mr. Write Starring: Paul Reiser, Jessica Tuck, Martin Mull, and Doug Davidson Genre: Romantic Comedy Rated: PG-13 Rating: **1/2 (out of ****) This was a crappy movie... although it was pretty damn funny. It starred mainly Paul Reiser as Charlie, a writer. He's pretty funny and is really, really bad, but he gets a lot of good breaks here and there. One of them is meeting a producer, Nichole Barnes (Jessica Tuck), whom he falls in love with. However, Nicole wants to remain "just friends", so Charlie is screwed and not in the way he wants. Even worse, Nicole has a boyfriend. He's a nature-loving weirdo that turns oranges into boxes named Roger (Doug Davidson). Quite a snag, Charlie finally runs into some good luck... he meets Nicole's father, Dan Burnes (Martin Mull). Dan is the head of Nicole's producing company and offers him a job with just the pay he's looking for. They also have another thing in common... a hatred for Roger. However, Charlie is told by Nicole never to go into business with her father, so he stays away from him. Besides, Charlie just wrote a play that found someone willing to produce into a big hit... Roger. So Charlie finally has a play that can be famous, but is kinda in a snag because the girl he love's boyfriend is producing it. Although the plot is weak and the acting is horrid, Mr. Write was pretty damn funny. Paul Reiser is hilarious and there are some great jokes. The romance is sappy and Reiser's support was pitiful, but he held up the play well. The writer, Howard J. Morris, did a good job setting a nice tone, but left out a level of reality needed to make the movie a hit. That and the director, Charlie Loventhal, did shit for this movie. I guess that's what I get for watching anything on Womans' Entertainment, but Mr. Write was so bad it gets a two and a half out of four on Alaay's rating. Hell, I think that's the lowest I've ever given a movie... -Alaay- |
