Title: Night of the Living Dead Starring: Duana Jones, Judith O'Dea, Karl Hardman, Marliyn Eastman, Keith Wayne, Judith Ridley, and Kyra Schon Genre: Horror Rated: R for extreme violence and disturbing content Rating: *** (out of ****) Night of the Dead is a classic thriller from 1968 dealing with the flesh-eating ghouls... yummy. The movies starts with Barbra's (Judith O'Dea's) brother being killed by a zombie in a graveyard. In utter shock, Barbra runs to the nearest house where she hides in. However, the zombie begins chasing her and its friends are coming to join him have dinner. Luckily for Barbra, Ben (Duana Jones) shows up in the nick of time. He's a townsfolk who, unlike Barbra, isn't scared by the zombies, and helps baracade the house off. Unknown to Ben abd Barbra, some other townsfolk are hiding in the same house below and soon come to help. With Cooper (Karl Hardman), his wife (Marilyn Eastman), Tom (Keith Wayne), Judy (Judith Ridley), and Cooper's daughter Karen (Kyra Schon), this group must protect themselves from the zombies... and from each other. There are some very graphic scenes of the movie where the zombies are eating the bones of people and licking off their skin, along with several murder scenes and violence fighting. Night of the Living Dead is completely in black & white, and, besides the violent content, isn't all too scary. It's more or less disturbing. The plot is actually very impressive and the characters do some fine acting, but nothing special. For the time it was made (1968), Night of the Living Dead is a fine film deserving three out of four stars, but not nearly enough to be a classic like the others around. -Alaay- |
