Rei opened her eyes to a vast expanse. She lay in a field of grass, the only light coming from the planet's single, silver moon. A beautiful woman with seemingly endless magenta eyes and long, golden-brown hair stood over her. Her silken hair shimmered in the moonlight, flowing all over, as if the winds converged on this one point. She stared into Rei's eyes, as if she was seraching for something. She was covered in some sort of thin armor, made of a strange alloy Rei had never seen before. It looked as if it was covered in oil. The strange bands of color shifted with her every breath.
The women's mouth opened, but she hestitated, as if she thought better of her words. She kneeled over Rei, pinning her own by planting a strong knee squarely on her cheest. She gripped the hilt of the knife sticking out of her left breast, and ripped it out painfully.
The small, frail girl started to cry. The golden haired woman stood up, face twisting with disgust. "Stop your whining, child." she stated coldly. "That won't get you far in reality."
Reality is just as bad as this...
The woman kicked her across the face, with a heavy metal boot. Rei quieted, now looking to her left, across the green field, for someone, anyone.
The woman grinned, flashing her perfectly white teeth. "Nobody can help you in your dreams, daughter."
Rei completely ignored her, still optimistic.
The woman wrenched her face back in a fit of anger. "Listen to me when i'm talking to you, you ignorant!" She regained her composure, smiling sweetly. "Do as I say, and you shall be eternally happy. Give up and let me have your body." She wispered soothingly.
"I'll never listen to you, you witch..." She stated defiantly.
The woman started to laugh. Pretty...., Rei thought, if you can get past the personality... "But you have before! Too many times! How do you think you got that knife in your chest? And why did you try to kill your friend, Liter? Because you felt like it?" she said, laughing and grinning.
"If this wasn't a dream, your throat would be slit..", Rei remarked through gritted teeth.
"I'll bet ", she remarked sarcastically. "And why did you freeze when Rasha was killing Brent? Why didn't you help him?"
His last words echoed in Rei's mind. Please..help me..
You insolent boy who never grew up, you're nothing but a worthless breeder. You, like all men, have no honor. I always knew you were street scum...
And what was wrong with Rasha?
"I know," Rei whispered."I know what you did..."
The woman's face lit up. "Good!" The smile quickly faded from her face. "Get up!" she ordered, dragging her up by the arm.
The field, the moonlit sky, and the woman melted away in front of her. She was back in Liter's apartment, sprawled out on the floor. Her clothes were wet with blood, and she wondered if it was just her own. The knife still stuck out of her chest, seeping blood. She couldn't remember exactly what had happened, or what day it was. A light rain tapped on the windows.
She looked to her left and saw Liter's crumpled, headless body. To her right, Brent's decapitated body lay on the floor. Rasha was nowhere to be found.
"Somebody...please help me..." she called weakly.
She knew that her physical wounds would heal, but she wasn't so sure of the ones on her mind.
