Chapter 2
Events Begin to Unfold
| Somewhere near the South Pole |
A military battle ship neared the place of Second Impact.
The night sky was lit up by the meteor shower striking the ocean waters.
On board the Captain manned the helm.
Turning to his first mate
“We’re almost to the site” said the Captain
“Yes, sir. Uh, Sir? What exactly does the Committee expect us to find here?”
“The Committee doesn’t trust Ikari. They want us to look for anything he may
have left behind after
retrieving the Lance.” reported the Captain
“Sir, If I may. I’ve met Ikari and he doesn’t strike me as a fool.”
“He may not be a fool but he is arrogant.”
Suddenly a report came in from one of the sensor rooms
‘Captain, we’ve detected an anomaly.” came the report
“What is it sailor?” asked the Captain
“We have an ocean temp reading 30 degrees Celsius”
“What? asked the Captain
“Could it be a warm water current?” asked the First mate
“There are no warm currents in this part of the Antarctic ocean.”
replied the Captain
“Due to the meteors?” asked the First Mate
“Possible. Sailor, keep watch on it.” ordered the Captain
A few minutes later a second alarm came in
“Captain, we’re getting high radiation readings.”
“Radiation? Where’s the source?” asked the Captain
“Directly below us” came the report
Suddenly several large metros crashed into the water extremely close to the
ship.
The water churned, the waves crashed violently against the boat.
A third report came
“Captain! Sonar shows a huge mass moving beneath us!”
“Is it the meteors?” asked the Captain
“No Captain, this mass is bigger and it’s moving up towards us!”
Before the Captain could respond a shout came from the deck
One of the ship’s radiomen came running to the bridge
“CAPTAIN! THE OCEAN!” he shouted, his voice filled with fear
The captain and his first mate ran to the port side and looked at the ocean
“What the hell?” asked the First mate
the ocean was being lit up from the underneath
The water seemed to be boiling as it churned as if something was coming up.
The last thing both the Captain and the First mate saw was a blinding flash of
light
and the ocean bursting into flames.

The clouds had been threatening with rain all day.
Finally in the dead of night the skies opened and the
rain came down accompanied by thunder and lighting
A very close thunder boom echoed through the apartment complex and
woke four members of Team Eva from their slumber.
Anthony steeped out from his room, clad in shorts and a T-shirt
‘What the hell?” he asked annoyed at haven been woken up suddenly
He saw the other pilots standing by the window
Like himself, Shinji and Asuka were dressed in T-shirt and shorts
Rei wore a long, thin nightgown.
“A storm is raging” said Rei
“Well duh” said Anthony
“Check it out,” said Shinji, pointing out the window
The lighting formed patterns across the gray sky
Lighting it up in a dance of light.
“That’s pretty,” whispered Asuka
Anthony slipped his arms around Asuka’s waist
“Yeah, it a sight all right” said Anthony
“I remember back in the States the sky would light up during a storm”
A second loud thunder boom paused the conversation
“But nothing like this.” continued Anthony
“It’s an omen” said Rei quietly
She had grabbed onto Shinji and was holding him tightly
“Of what?” asked Shinji
“The end of the world?”
Anthony looked a Shinji
‘Hell, bring it on. We’ve dealt with everything else in this world, why not the
end of it.” said Anthony
Somewhere else in the city another member of Team Eva watches the skies but with
a different purpose.
He is reading the messages being sent via the lighting patterns
His red eyes blink as he read
he thought
Glancing beck up at the sky he continued to read, his eyes grew wide as he read
| The next Morning |
Breakfast as usual
“So, did everyone sleep well last night?” asked Misato
“Uh, Misato? Didn’t you hear the thunder” asked Asuka
“There was thunder?” asked Misato blankly
“She was probably drunk off her ass again” said Anthony
The children laughed and Misato scowled at Anthony
“Is that so, Mr Draven?” said Misato dangerously
“Oh, gee, look at the time we’d better get going. We don’t want be late” said
Anthony
quickly.
The other children laughed as Anthony raced out the door before Misato could
even get up.

A dimly lit meeting room. Twelve Monoliths stand facing one another.
Monolith 08 “ The ship we sent to the Antarctic has been sunk”
Monolith 05 “Do we have a report?”
Monolith 08 “One final radio transmission, reporting
‘a blinding flash of light and the ocean bursting into flames’ ”
Monolith 09 “A mine or a collision?”
Monolith 08 “I don’t think so.”
Monolith 10 “So you don’t think it was Ikari.”
Suddenly the head of the committee spoke
Monolith 01 “It wasn’t Ikari. No human device could have sunk a ship in that
manner. It was a force of nature nothing more. Let us forget the ship, we must
find a way to prevent Ikari from re-writing our scenario”
Actually the report scared the committee head. The description of the sinking
worried him
‘A blinding flash of light and the ocean bursting into flames’, He had heard the
description twice before in his very long life. Each time signaled the
appearance of a force of nature almost a terrifying as the Angels and a lot less
predictable.

The children were sitting in their seats wait for the day to start.
Hikari and Asuka were talking when the aging professor walked in
“It seems we have a new student, class” the old man said
A young man walked in
“I would like to introduce Corey Raize.
Mr. Raize please take the seat behind Asuka Sohryu”
Some of the girls in the class sighed at the sight of the new arrival
Out of the corner of her eye Hikari saw her best friends reaction to Corey.
Fear and recognition were present in her eyes.
Anthony saw it too.

Knowing the professor’s lecture was a valuable as a square wheel
Anthony instead began to type at his computer.
/ Asuka? Are you OK? / he typed
the reply came back
/ She is fine /
Thinking it was Asuka’s best friend, Anthony typed
/ I appreciate the message Hikari, but I want to hear it from Asuka /
/ I do not want you to speak to Asuka without my permission /
Anthony looked at the response it puzzled him
/ Hikari, what is wrong with you? /
/ I’m not Hikari /
/ Then who the hell are you? /
/ Who I am is none of your business /
Anthony was now very angry
/ The damn hell it is! Asuka is my girlfriend/
/ Not anymore and she never was, She belongs to me/
With that the communication ended. For the rest of the morning Anthony tried to
talk with Asuka
only to be blocked by this unknown person.
When lunch finally came Anthony clipped his lightsaber to his belt and exited
the room, followed by Shinji
In the boys bathroom, Anthony was furious
His fist struck the synthetic wood of the empty stalls
“Goddamn it!” he said angrily, ‘Who in the damn hell was that?”
“I don’t know Anthony” said Shinji, he was annoyed. He had also tried to talk
with Asuka and got the same results.

Asuka was talking with the girls
“Spill it Asuka, do you know Corey?” asked Rei
“We, grew up together” said Asuka
“Is, that all?” asked Myna teasingly
Just then Corey came over. He placed his arms around Asuka’s chest
He began to kiss her neck.
Rei, Myna and Hikari looked astonished
Corey looked up from Asuka at the other girls
“So these are your friends?’ he asked
Asuka nodded.
“I know you must associate with other Eva pilots but I also expect that you
would hang around with students of a high social standard instead of these
commoners” Corey said mockingly
“Hey.” snapped Myna angrily
Corey looked at them amused, “Asuka-chan may I speak to you outside”
Asuka nodded.
The two Germans stepped outside
Once the door to the classroom closed and Corey felt they were out of view
he raised his hand and slapped Asuka across the face.
“That was for betraying me” he said angrily
Tears of pain and angry formed in Asuka’s eyes
“You see, I’ve had you and the other pilots under surveillance since you arrived
in Tokyo-3”
Corey explained
“I knew you couldn’t be trusted so I hired a team to keep on eye on you and
those you live with. I was less that surprised to find you had betrayed me and
joined with the American pilot.”
“Anthony loves me, more than you ever did!” said Asuka angrily
“Love you? When did I ever say I loved you? You belong to me, plain and
simple. I’m here to take back what’s mine and nothing will stop me
“You cold hearted bastard.” said Asuka, “Anthony will stop you”
Corey still looked angry, he raised his hand to strike her again
“I must teach you respect” he said flatly
He was about to bring his hand down when some one grabbed his arm.
Corey turned only to see a fist flying right at his face.
Corey fell to the floor a trickle of blood exited his nose
Looking up he saw Anthony Draven standing over him
“You’re the one who needs to learn respect, scum ” Anthony said
He walked over to Asuka, his hand gently traced over the bruise on her cheek
“You will pay for this” he said to Corey
“And you will pay for this” said Corey he held up some of the blood from his
nose
“I will teach to stay out of my business”
‘Asuka is my girlfriend, so if you think you’ll be rid of me easily, you are
fool as well as a bastard’ said Anthony.
“I know I won’t be rid of you easily, so I issue a challenge” said Corey
“Are we talking a fight?” asked Anthony
“Indeed we are” said Corey
“When and where?” asked Anthony
“Tomorrow, noon on the city outskirts. I believe there is an area Nerv uses
for mock battles” said Corey
Anthony nodded
“Good. We will battle there tomorrow but it will not be hand to hand” explained
Corey
“Choose you weapons” Anthony challenged
“All you must do is bring your Eva” said Corey simply
Anthony was surprised, “Unit-04? and how pray tell, do I clear that with Nerv?”
“It is already done” said Corey
“Like you three, I too am a pilot. However my weapon is far superior to your
Evas”
Anthony began to laugh
Corey stared at him angrily, ‘What is so funny?” he demanded
Anthony looked at him, “I’ve destroyed two Eva wannabes already. I’ll be glad
to rip your tin toy apart too”
Corey stared at him and said, “I doubt your pathetic Eva can stand against me!
We will see who gets destroyed.”
With that Corey turned and walked back to class.
“Yes, Corey” Anthony muttered ‘We shall see”
The End
Hmm, the plot thickness.
Something has woken up at the South Pole can any one guess what it is?
Corey and Anthony will battle and who knows what else.
